A grandfather was arrested at dawn and held in a police cell for six hours for using a single swear-word in front of a council official.
Thomas Catcheside, 67, had his fingerprints and DNA taken, before being issued with an £80 fixed-penalty notice.
His arrest followed a dispute with a council official about ‘dangerously slippery’ communal stairs in his block of flats in Cambridge.

I wonder how long the bobbys waited before the arrest. “Ah, we’ll gettim morning after next,” they’d say. I hope they didn’t encounter any trouble with the stairs while apprehending the perp.

I am sure they conducted a risk assessment report according to procedure before attempting such a dangerous task as climbing the staircase. No doubt they waited until daylight returned as an additional safeguard.

What has your post got to do with this Daily Mail story?

According to the article the poor man had been going round and round for three years trying to get the council to address the stairs as well as other safety issues. If it were me I would’ve just said ‘Sod this’ and gone to the DIY factor, got some grip strips and tacked them in myself.

In which case you would be guilty of vandalism of council property.
If you collect the leaves that have fallen off a tree and brush them back onto the street, that is illegal dumping.
If you collect sand, pebbles, stones off a beach, or collect sticks from a park, that is theft.
If you collect the sand that has blown off the beach into your garden and place it back on the beach, that too is illegal dumping.
If you attempt to clean up the garden of an abandoned property by placing the rubbish in plastic bags, that too is theft.
If you attempt to tidy up a council owned patch of land that has been unmaintained due to “budget cuts”, that too would be considered vandalism (look up guerrilla gardeners). Otherwise, the council will use health and safety legislation to ban anyone else:

@tiger9973
In the UK we live in a dictatorship, you try fixing the stairs and they’ll come and bill you for “vandalism”. It’s the same with all the broken services, if you try and fix them, you get screwed.

Can we please stop getting articles about the UK put up on this site. The people in the UK are total slaves unwilling to do anything about their condition. Screw the cowardly Brits.

That is an unfair generalization of the UK population. The same kind of statement could be said about Americans/Canadians/Germans etc. etc. Do not jump to conclusions about individuals associated with the group.

Ummm, it’s called PRISON PLANET!! Not Prison USA! In addition, you should see this is a “forecast” as of what’s yet to come. Seems to me what ever happens in the UK a similar story is shortly released of the same thing in the US. Use it to your advantage as a heads-up rather than just complain!

The UK looks to be worse off than America these days, you guys need a revolution more than we do. Government is supposed to govern not provide. Govern means to limit or regulate trying to get Government to provide services is like trying to get a monkey to paint your apartment, sure it will get paint on the walls but you’ll never be satisfied with the results.

My comment was not regarding the monetary system. All the same your country has engaged in even more money printing than the US. That your not seeing it right now is irrelevant it will surface. Besides that the dollar is the worlds reserve currency if/when the dollar collapses your pound goes with it.

30% of the population work in the public sector
25% of the population work in retail serving the other groups
30% of the population in some areas are on benefits, 10% never having worked
The remaining 15% perform professional services like legal, telecoms, and engineering services.
There isn’t really anyone left to stand up except for full-time political activists.

Over many years we have all been lied to by our Governments, but not just our Governments but many religous leaders. Many things we have been taught are not even in Scripture and millions have swallowed so many lies by these false prophets. If you are a truth seeker please visit the following web site and take the time to read some of the articles, you will be shocked.
