In the beginning of the 20th Century, the British Empire was essentially bankrupt, and Germany was the preeminent industrial power. In particular, Germany was building an oil-fired navy, which had both greater speed and range than Britain’s coal-fired navy. Also, Germany was building a railroad from Berlin to…

…wait for it…

…yes, you guessed it — Baghdad. Not only would the railroad give Germany access to the oilfields to power their navy, it would bypass Britain’s stranglehold on round-the-horn shipping from Europe to the far-east. Put goods from a ship onto the train in Basra, and send them to central Europe. Would totally have destroyed what was left of British mercantilism.

So the teabags got JP Morgan, Senator Aldrich, and friends to push through a central bank in the US in the dark of night 2 days before Christmas 1913 (when all the western congressmen and senators who weren’t bought and paid for by London were on a train somewhere), and now the funding for the “war to end all wars” in central Europe was secure. The new credit facility the Fed provided allowed JP Morgan and company to be the Halliburton of WWI, providing billions of dollars worth of war materiel for the “allies”.

An “anarchist” killing Archduke Ferdinand (just like an “anarchist” killed the anti-banker McKinley) was simply a convenient way to set off the explosion of all the various treaties and alliances that crisscrossed European countries. Once one country declared war, all of Europe was involved, and London could attack Germany because ot their alliances without getting their hands dirty by firing the first shot.

Oh, and that railroad? Where did it go through? Sarajevo. (You know, where Ferdinand was shot…)
