  • Hackers attack website of Large Hadron Collider experiment

    Daniel Bates
    UK Daily Mail
    Saturday, Sept 13, 2008

Hackers have infiltrated the computer systems of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the largest experiment in the world.

A group calling themselves the Greek Security Team put a fake page on the facility’s website mocking those responsible for its IT systems as ‘a bunch of schoolkids’.

But there was nothing more malicious in their attack and, in a rambling note written in Greek, they said they were not going to disrupt it further.

    (Article continues below)

The note read: ‘We’re pulling your pants down because we don’t want to see you running around naked looking to hide yourselves when the panic comes.’

The hack was all the more audacious because it began on Wednesday as the machine, which will smash protons together at near light speed, was being fired up and under the glare of the world’s media.

No damage was done and the work of the scientists was not derailed, but the website – www.cmsmon.cern.ch – can no longer be accessed by the public as a result.

    1. anonymous Says:

In case anyone doesn’t understand, there is NO DANGER from the experiments at CERN with the LHC.

If anyone has any evidence or theory to the contrary please post it here or on the forums.

    2. Charles Tonshu Says:

      anonymous,

Heven’t you heard? The Intergalactic Alliance has threatened to destroy our planet if we continue with the LHC experiments. They say the energy levels achievable with the LHC will make it possible for us to unravel the mystery of quantum-gravitation, opening the possibility of faster-than-light space travel. They say that if our hostile race is allowed to develop this technology we will become a danger to the peaceful inhabited worlds of the Alliance.

    3. me Says:

same goes to you with your evidence of safety. even an electric toothbrush has danger potential, but a 17km long, light-speed atom smasher….perfectly safe??? the onus should be on cern to prove its 100% safe, all we risk is life as we know it.

    4. Jason Says:

It is human nature to explore and learn. The LHC is a part of this. If you don’t like it, then climb back up into the trees.

    5. Raj Says:

      Jason,

Human Nature? Climb back into the trees?

It is human nature to clear the Earth’s surface of all trees. But not to worry. By that time I’m sure we will have found a way to create an artificial atmosphere.

Keep the ignorance…er, um, I mean faith.

    6. Thx1138 Says:

Sometimes people in the scientific community display just as much dangerous blind faith as religious fanatics. I guess it goes to show that science is not superior to religion.

Theist or atheist, what’s important is where the heart is.

Why should I care if an atheist chooses not to believe in God (he can take that up with HIM when the time comes) as long as he adheres to morality. I have seen that it is possible for an atheist to surpass a theist in this area.

Everyone has the right to be a fool to some extent, as long as he does not endanger his fellows.

Oh yeah, the collider is going to implode the universe.

      Y2K.
      Killer Bees.
      Global Warming.
      5/5/2000.
      The asteroid of 2012.
      and…
      CERN.

Why be afraid. Nothing you can do to stop it. Do you all just argue in the event that if it happens you can prove your intellect and foresight?
You are all talking like doc did in back to the future to when Marty was going to meet his future self…. but you know what? The universe didnt explode then and its not going to explode now.
So what if the CERN produces 1.21 gigawatts of energy just relax….

    8. JamesT Says:

I know this. No matter how dangerous that atom smasher is, at this point it’s still only potentially dengerous, whereas we’ve got insatiable murderers at the highest levels whose destructive power has already been realized.

let’s deal with them first. Maybe we can throw them inside this thing…ZAP!

      Revolution now!

    9. Favein Says:

      Such strange words people write.
The knowledge of today is void, only anger reigns within the numerous minds that waver under the pressure of fear and pride.

Those who deserve safety will get safety, but no one will be left unpunished from their secret crimes.

    10. john redder Says:

we are not ready for this kind of power…….. example nuclear power we still dont know what to do with its waste

    11. Merlin Says:

Well there system should have been closed system. Anything connected to the web or an outside computer system, is going to be vulnerable.

    12. happyrichie Says:

does this mean we must trust them at their word?

sound like inside job to me

    13. jonny Says:

      realy stupid scientists lol

    14. Mike Knows Says:

There is no such thing as a black hole. It doesn’t exist. It is a black sun at the center of the galaxy and it is impossible to fall into it when it is actually repelling everything and not attracting anything. If you fire 2 bullets into each other..they will explode.. not implode.
You can compress a sun into a black sun by increasing the frequency of it but it will be repelling objects because of converse piezoelectricity.
Frankly all you will get from science is outrageous lies because the scientists are taught lies in the textbooks to begin with. Don’t worry they will never create a black hole and it won’t swallow anything because it’s all a bunch of bunk.
Just because you have a piece of paper saying your a scientist, doesn’t mean you have a brain with common sense..it only means you have a brainwashed brain and you are taught a bunch of lies.

    15. Steve Williams Says:

“CERN completely lied about the safety of the LHC just as NIST completely lied in its recent report about WTC7.”

The hackers should have used that instead.

Regarding the current smug and arrogant attitude by fanboys and fangirls of the LHC, I will use a quote from the movie The Day After… “Stupidity has a habit of getting its way.”

And regarding hokum some apparently picked up from thunderbolts.info, when I first visited that website, I thought it was a gag website until I realized they were being serious. And then my next thought was “WTF?”

Ours is an electric universe? Well, duh-h-h-h… And our universe could as equally be called a photonic universe. Both electrons and photons are pretty much the prime reason why existence exists in our universe. Electrons as the reason why atoms glomp together and photons as mechanisms which transfer information and energy.

Petulant and egotistical insanity is reigning supreme. Deliberate and intentional dysfunctionalism has become the One True Way. Why?

Hello, out there… Is there anyone who isn’t mentally ill and doesn’t exalt death above Life?

    16. pete Says:

whats the real use 4 this device,do you suppose the elite [who run this planet]realy want to know what may have happened before, who gives a s#it, it’sgot to be a weapon of control 20 years and billons of dollars don’t make practical sense, and why have we got 2 others ,one in england and near canada?spread round the planet this is not a conspiricy theory..just my theory,oh wow, miami spice is on tv..gottago.

    17. mark Says:

we are trying to create exotic and dark matter so we can use it to create worm holes and such. we need to collect the changes that will be created when these particles collide creating the chiral condensate in the quasi-quark spectra during the chiral transition..

this process will likely create a few worm holes or black holes , dark matter and exotic matter has never been created by man before so we don’t know what to expect really we can only hope the mass Hawking radiation will dissipate the black holes before they suck everything in..

But we wont find out until we collide the particles in the year 2009 – 2012 just depends when we feel we wanna take the chance, there is no harm turning the machine on :-) .

The elite are interested in time travel, the elite are also interested in the higgs boson (GOD PARTICLE) they are also ok with destruction of planets so either way they win.

We are also waiting for the elite humans to find some sort of safety in space. Just incase the hawking radiation does not work as we would like..

    18. Drewmaloo Says:

Listen just about every joe schmoe scientist is having a wet dream over this CERN business. If it is a wepon how are they going to sneak it under the noses of the entire scientific community. GEEZ… Oh wait… let me guess… Every scientist in the world is a reptile. Red herron. run from the cern stories.

    19. taichief Says:

just like the race to the moon was missile practice I shudder to think what will come from this research

    20. dish gotta swim Says:

“You can compress a sun into a black sun by increasing the frequency of it but it will be repelling objects because of converse piezoelectricity.”

IIRC, it turns into a lightweight mass of zectrons that you can safely bounce it over a three story building, unless the building has a steel-frame construction, in which case it’ll collapse.

    21. Aaron Says:

We never went to the moon because of the massive radiation they would have experienced while trying to go through 9,300km of the the Van Allen Radiation Belt. If you don’t believe me, just look up the Van Allen Radiation Belt on wikipedia; even wikipedia expresses their doubt of possible space travel through it. The LHC is the largest piece of machinary ever made by man and will be used to put a hole in the Van Allen Radiation Belt. They don’t mean that it will literally create a black hole, because a real black hole is of infinite properties. It is more symbolic than that, black as in evil, and hole as in, a hole in the radiation belt. Evil, because it will allow incredible amounts of radiation to penetrate the Earth. However, this will allow space travel once and forall, but at the cost of perhaps millions if not billions of lives. Watch Michael Tsarion’s 2012 – The Future of Mankind.
