  • Halperin: ‘Disgusting failure’ of ‘pro-Obama’ media

    Andrew McLemore

    Sunday, Nov 23, 2008

The 2008 election involved more media bias than any other election in history, Time magazine’s Mark Halperin said at a conference on the 2008 presidential race, Politico reported.

“It’s the most disgusting failure of people in our business since the Iraq war,” Halperin said at a panel of media analysts. “It was extreme bias, extreme pro-Obama coverage.”

The conference was a joint effort of Politico and the University of Southern California. Its purpose was to consult leading members of the media about the aftermath of the presidential election.

Halperin had plenty to say on the subject.

“The example that I use, at the end of the campaign, was the two profiles that The New York Times ran of the potential first ladies,” Halperin said. “The story about Cindy McCain was vicious. It looked for every negative thing they could find about her and it case her in an extraordinarily negative light.

The story about Michelle Obama, however, was “like a front-page endorsement of what a great person Michelle Obama is,” said Halperin, who maintains The Page, the political site of Time.

Although Halperin’s comments drew little disagreement from most of the other members of the panel, Los Angeles Times writer Mark Barabak said Halperin was missing the bigger picture, MediaBistro reported.

“Look at it in it’s totality, at the end of the day did the media serve its function, to inform people about who these two men are? Yes they did,” Barabak said.

    1. David Says:

I have completely boycotted all MSM outlets. I do not give hits to their websites via articles, I NEVER have them tuned in on the boob tube. The MSM is in need of a complete overhaul. The 24/7 cable news shows took a great opportunity and squandered it on sensationalism, gossip and opinion centered reporting…. what a disservice to the country.

Fact based reporting with a completely objective attitude, while fairly presenting all sides of the spectrum, is their job. Instead we get biased opinion and the press motto…. “Afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted” BS.

    2. Alex (not Jones) Says:

The MSM is actually laughable. By reading Prison Planet, Infowars and Low Rockwell links I know way ahead of time what will be in the MSM and how they will slant it.

For example I knew about the shooting border clashes between US and Pakistani troops a full 10 days befire there was even a peep on the US MSM. Then they of course only told half the story.

I try to spread the word as much as possible and am asked all the time “How do you know all this stuff?”

I usually reply something like “The question is not how I know, but why don’t you know?”

I usually get back “I watch the news and read the papers.”

I then expand on that. I’ve woken quite a few up but it’s frustrating to run into people who just don’t want to know and even say so. They tell me to relax, accept it since I can’t do anything about it, that’s the hardest thing for to accept, then apathy. Then they have the nerve to tell me that I am apathetic because I refuse to vote.

Lucky for them I am even tempered

    3. Blunt Force Trauma Says:

I’m thoroughly tired of the ‘Love For Obama’ that is being slung around by the media and the people that are using up my valuable oxygen to keep spewing that man’s false promises.

      He’s a POLITICIAN, people.

I’m what you call a ‘moderate’. I sit in the middle and see both sides. This zombie state like love for Mr. Hopey Changey Unicorn Man is very dangerous. It allows those in control and in power to truly manipulate the masses into whatever scenario that they wish to perpetrate upon the public. I’m not saying that all people are hopelessly gullible, but the feverish reverance for Obama by a lot of people is frankly, quite scary. I don’t have an example, per se; but I can see if there should be a crisis that would be unleashed, the Obama-Messiah contingent would most likely be accepting of any course of action that he may guide them towards. Even if it meant harming themselves or others.

It’s a frightening climate we are in. The world’s economies are crashing and the last thing we all need now is to have hysteria over a politician who is merely a ‘front man of the band’ and the song he is playing is one that we have all heard before. Some of us are just better at remembering the lyrics while those that get behind their ’saviour’ simply mouth the words.

CFR wanted the USA to have a controlled media, and that’s what we’ve got. It is part of their plan.

    5. msujibboo Says:

Not too many Obama voters I know are zombielike and hypnotized, nor do most of them really think he’ll change much. But McCain sang “bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran.” End of story. Everybody can cool it with this whole “Obama seen as new messiah and savior of the universe.” It was either him or McCain. A vote for McCain would have been a vote showing approval for Bush. That’s all.

    6. josh Says:

The council on Foreign Relations got in and will every time. We live in a Dictatorship.

    7. josh Says:

Don’t vote, it only encourages ‘em.

    8. martae Says:

Not voting is endorsing the status quo. Bob Barr will not be the libertarian candidate in the next presidential election, judging by his vote totals (the libertarian gubernatorial candidate in NC Mike Munger received almost 5 times as many votes in the state). On the other hand if you don’t think citizens should be able to carry weapons, and retain the fruits of their labors Ralph Nader, or the greens are perfectly good alternatives to doing nothing to unseat the criminal incumbent party. Besides, if you don’t vote you have no standing to complain about the crooks that have been elected with the aid of your ignorance.

    9. SoldierforTruth Says:

Hey Martae. WAKE UP, THE VOTING IS RIGGED!!!!!!!!!!

    10. in 4 a shoc Says:

Nobody knows what Obamas real political viewpoints are, what some of his most radical ideas are, where he is heavy handed where a light touch is needed, where he light fingered where a hammer is needed. In short nobody knows Obama, and hardly any of the public and the mainstream media had even heard his name up until a couple of years ago. The media helped get Obama elected by treating him like a popstar celebrity and the best thing since sliced white bread. But in truth likeable celebrities are basically actors in front of an audience, some literally. And the media is hardly an authority on Obama. Id have liked the media to focus on things he voted for and against while he was a senator. By their fruits you know them. The media wasnt slow in pointing out Ron Pauls voting record and spinning it into a bad thing despite his voting being the most moral, consistent and Pro America voting record of any senator. If it was anti constitutional Ron Paul said no. I dont think the media could say that about Obama. The media is clearly being guided to push certain individuals and belittle others. The popularity of Ron Paul could have been a run away success and as a non American with no political bias for any party over there that guy would have been so good a president your shadow govt would have had him snuffed out. Americas screwed because their democracy is an illusion. They overthrow democratically elected govts when it suits them, they circumvent their own law, courts, senate, congress in the name of what? The 1st chance they get to justify taking away personal liberties they are like rabid dogs who havent been fed for a week. Watching the Bush admin from the out looking in I have to say America needs more tha Obama to restore their credibility. in fact Obamas push to the whitehouse reeks of manipulation and appeasement of the masses, while really changing nothing. Yes we can? Change? what change? good? bad? good for who? bad for who? yes we can what? carry on with politics as usual but get the people supporting a Bush doctrine continuation because the clever bastards but a charming good looking black man in as the puppet president. Obama will do what hes told or else. And America needs to do more than this to recover its status, which has gone from a democratic nation of free people, to one where the democracy has been exposed as an illusion by a country spying on its own citizens, despite being attacked by Saudi terrorists mainly. Not one sanction against the oil rich Saudis who play the oil game with America. I wonder why. Oh yes they hold hands. Literally. Pass me the vomit bag. Yep spy on its own citizens in the name of counter terrorism and give port security contracts to Saudis. Wow that makes sense. youd think the American public were the enemy and the terrorists were the friends who come in handy to facilitate more power and liberty snatching. Never mind recovering its tarnished image, I doubt America will recover period. Here in Britain we had the bank theft capers too. However I got my £2,000 back by means I wont go into. I dont answer to a friggin bank, and I dont bail them out. I suggest people apply for a bank loan from those banks that were involved in the theft, then refuse to pay it back. In America you have the privelege of being able to stand on your property and protect it with a gun. Especially from criminal banks and govt. At least your constitution says as much. In fact a loan probably isnt the best way to get your money back but there are ways. I know. I got mine back. I wouldnt allow the govt to steal from me especially on behalf of the banks. My bailout money has been grabbed back and its up to a 3rd party to try get it back, which they wont.

    11. Ottobock Says:

Watch this. Webster Tarpley, who knows these crooks well enough to have predicted just about everything with striking accuracy speaks about what is in store. This was done well before the Election.
