Calls to put the DNA of every UK resident on a national database
are impractical, the government has said. Senior police officers
have argued for a universal register after two killers were convicted
on DNA evidence.
Canada and the U.S. have signed an agreement that paves the way
for the militaries from either nation to send troops across each
other's borders during an emergency, but some are questioning
why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.

abuses that suggest some MEPs are simply plundering the system

Passengers
travelling between EU countries or taking domestic flights would
have to hand over a mass of personal information, including
their mobile phone numbers and credit card details, as part
of a new package of security measures being demanded by the
British government. The data would be stored for 13 years and
used to "profile" suspects.
