Polygraph like machines to “spot terrorists” by scanning general public for anxiety

The Department of Homeland Security has previewed new technology that they promise will help rout out terrorists and other dangerous people in public places by covertly bio-scanning subjects as they walk past sets of cameras.
It may seem Orwellian, but on Thursday, the Homeland Security Department showed off an early version of physiological screeners that could spot terrorists, reports USA Today.
According to DHS officials, the scanners work like polygraphs but without the subjects having to be wired up to them. They measure body temperature, pulse and breathing regularity. Any sudden changes recorded could indicate “the kind of anxiety exuded by a would-be terrorist or criminal.”
According to the report, the new technology will not just be limited to use in airports:
The system would be portable and fast, said project manager Robert Burns, who envisions machines that scan people as they walk into airports, train stations or arenas. Those flagged by the machines would be interviewed in front of cameras that measure minute facial movements for signs they are lying.
Law experts have charged that the technology constitutes a government enforced “medical exam” which would violate civil rights.

There can be no doubt that this technology is part of Homeland Security’s Project Hostile Intent (PHI) program, on which we reported just over one year ago.
Scientists were tasked by the DHS to develop technology by 2010 that can scan the bodily functions of citizens, without them knowing, and uncover any possible hostile intent or deception.
The DHS revealed to The New Scientist that it wishes to develop a lie detector-type test that can be used remotely, which was described as “an advantage because it would not interfere with the flow of a crowd and it could be used without the target’s knowledge.”
Other technology to be used for PHI includes lasers, cameras, eye trackers, microphones and heart rate and breathing sensors.
The new technology complements already escalating security measures in airports and train stations such as biometric body scans, lie detector tests, behavior analysis, facial analysis and spot teams to spy on passengers.
In addition, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) started conducting random additional at-gate screening earlier this year of airline passengers who display “involuntary physical and physiological” actions indicating stress, fear or deception.
To anyone who remembers Poindexter’s gait analysis this is pretty disturbing stuff.
We are being acclimatized to these things, first within airports and stations. Technology and measures that you don’t even see used in prisons or high security facilities are being passed off as completely normal in public places.
Furthermore, from the wording in these reports, it is clear that the intention is to roll out the exact same measures throughout public places in major cities and subject the general public to intense airport style harassment on the city streets.
How long before we see checkpoint officials inspecting internal passports and consumers body scanned merely to enter a supermarket or a sports arena?

St. Paul dropping all misdemeanor charges for journalists arrested during RNC
Charges will be dropped against journalists who were arrested and charged with misdemeanors for unlawful assembly during the Republican National Convention, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman said today.
Many reporters, photographers and bloggers were among the 818 people arrested during the Sept. 1-4 convention. Many were trapped on a bridge with protesters on the Thursday night, just before Sen. John McCain made his acceptance speech. Police had warned the large group to dissipate, then closed in from both sides of the bridge and made mass arrests.

I can see it now. A guy gets into an argument with his wife, is having a bad day at work, gets pissed off due to some anomaly in his/her day, or is having an anxiety attack, a heart attack, drives or walks past one of these things, and the jack booted thugs snatch them up and toss them into GBay. Even if they did this it would be determined unconstitutional and a breach of contract between the government and the people. This will put people over the top Im sure. And bringing in NATO troops will just further exasberate the problem. But then again we know how government likes to escalate things then make themselves look like heroes. Firing squads sound appropriate.

Regarding illegal arrests at the RNC Convention:
Where would we be if being robbed or burglarized we didn’t have the police to call? However, when “peace officers” foment violence at peaceful demonstrations, in black uniforms, without badges or identifying name plates, for what the police chief calls “control” functions, there is an enormous disconnect between protecting public safety and becoming the agent threatening public safety.
The pre-emptive arrests, illegal searches, threatening behaviors with oversized weapons against unarmed civilians and journalists is not an exercise in “protecting public safety,” but trampling on the rights of citizens under a false guise of providing security. My five decades plus in this country has allowed me the experience to hear twenty somethings to shout during protests, “Is this what a police state looks like…?” and to understand their anger. That IS what a police state looks like, whether it appears daily or whether it lurks as a latent force ready to squelch any dissent that rears its head… all in the name of “security.” Coleman and his officers should be ashamed of themselves

Won’t happen: The Republicans (RNC) signed an agreement saying they would pay for any lawsuits against the city resulting from actions by the police. This allowed the police to run amok without fear of any repercussions from their city bosses.

So, what about people with health problems who are under stress all the time? Or what about people who suffer from panic attacks when they are outdoors (a common problem)? Will these people be harrassed by law enforcement for not feeling well? This is a ridiculous and dangerous development.

Some victims of electroinic harassment say that their body functions are manipulated. What if the Homeland Security and the law enforcement use such devices to increase the suspicion on certain individuals in front of these cameras? The body tempature would be changed using acaustic weapons. V2K and ultrasound hearing devices can cause someone to hear voices without getting others notice.
If the Homeland Security really wants to eliminate possible terrorist threats, they need to install a system to monitor the activities of microwave, ultrasound, ELF, etc. Otherwise, the real terrorists would use the above electronic harassment devices on innocent passerby to avoid getting suspicion on themselves. What if I’m practicing Chi-Kung Crane breathing techniques or Yoga for that matter, for health? Am I going to be considered suspicious? My teacher always said that you can tell someone is a master when you can’t see him breathe.
I’ve been doing that kind of breathing for over 10 years now… I think this technology could easily be a method to spot trained martial artists… “the dangerous people” who walk peacefully among us.

I think another important point to raise is how can any group DEFINE the “suspicious” limits? As Pueblo suggested, what if it is in our day to day practice to focus on our breathing technique? Some of these practices can also imply certain postures, stances, etc. But yah, philosophically, this stinks… and Miyoko hit a great point right on the nose. I envision, and far be it for me to suggest that the DHS intends this, that certain people will be straining to be in an appropriate physiological state to pass these scans, thus rendering them suspicious. Furthermore, I watched this GREAT 2 part lecture about never speaking to a Police Officer when pulled over, suspected, etc., as there job is to supposedly extract something that will stick in court against you. I’m paraphrasing incredibly… but then I think of this scanning business… might I be so bold as to suggest that it’s napoleonic? Sort of like, hey… you have to fit in these paramaters of appearence, gait, BODY TEMP!?, etc., other wise you’re a suspect. In other words, we permit you to be this way, all else forbidden… Guilty until our machines prove you’re innocent… but they’re YOUR machines!!! The more they grasp for control… the faster it slips away… I say keep up the awakening, take a deep breath, and roar with laughter. Yeah… that’s a great idea… when going through these checkpoints… we should see what standard procedure is for complete and genuine laughter! It’ll be easy… when one gets to the checkpoints… look around… notice the flock… think to the totally contradictory and hipocritical stance our nihilistic government agencies are taking faced with masses, and burst out laughing when you’re up to bat!!! Bet it makes the news if people start doing it… Maybe I’ll give it a go if I ever travel any time soon… hehe… well, that’s my present perspective… take care all.

Please, people, do not even give this new technology any credit by trying explain why facial expressions and body movement have nothing to do with whether someone is a terrorist. OF COURSE THEY DON’T. #1, THERE ARE NO REAL TERRORISTS, only government operatives or mind control victims perpetrating false flags. So this new technology is for another purpose. This is merely the public information, the level of DoD technology is god awful scary. Clothing capable of tracking the wearers location and vital stats worldwide in real time. Microscopic technology allowing for true insect level mechanisms for watching you and super computers capable of scanning billions of conversations simultaneously.
My nightmare scenaio has nothing to do with jackboots but thie technology identifying “persons of interest” that then have very small mobile transceivers autonomously attach themselves to the persons clothing and tyravel with them – without the knowledge of the person. So you will be under observation, essentially interrogated via eavesdropping and you wont even know it until you drop dead for no known reason.

OJB here with a little insight:
Once those scanners are in place they will not only be used to flag the really anxious person, they will _also_ be used to collect statistics on individuals. That way we can find the _perpetually_ angry person and target them.

What about people with so called “anxiety” disorders? What about people who are just naturally nervous in crowds or airports because of all the fear mongering that goes on? What about people with high blood pressure or irregular heartbeats? What about people who are angry or upset because they are late for a flight or something bad just happened or whatever? These people have no right to know these kinds of things, this is a total invasion of privacy & we all need to expose this as a totalitarian police state measure. We are not robots. We don’t all function on an algorythym. We’re people. We’re all unique. This is telling us unless we all act a certain way we’re to be singled out. Unless you are a mindless blithering idiot human drone, this device may single you out.

this is getting out of hand, theres gotta be away to stop these idiots, it doesnt seem protesting is doing it, our voices are heard but unanswered, congress doesnt want to stand up and hold the culprits accountable, i see new war front, right in my backyard, but untill i see the “whites of their eyes”, i wont shoot, im not voting for either of the 2 major parties
nor am i voting for any party, my state dont allow write ins, so i cant vote for Ron Paul, so everyone out there im not voting for anyone! and i think we should focus on just that, getting
the more people we can get not to vote, i think would expose to the ones who did, that the elections fixed. if 80% of the people didnt vote, they would have to doctor it to make it look as if more did vote

Hey, this lie-detector technology and facial analysis would be great to use on the US government officials! I would really like to see this technology used to review speeches by Georgie-boy Bush, Dickie-boy Cheney and other neo-cons to ‘uncover any possible intent or deception’. The results would probably be off the scale!

There is a REASON why JESUS told us to LOVE OUR ENEMIES. “Fearing” a God of Love is a new concept for alot of us, but that’s exactly what God needs from us. “Without faith (trust), it’s impossible to please Him (God of Love). That’s because He’s trying to save our life – THAT’S HIS PLEASURE! HE WANTS TO KEEP US ALIVE!
So when we fear and dread Him properly (His Authority and Words purposed LIFE in us), we no longer have anything else to fear… because God is Most Powerful and we TRUST HIM, that He loves us, that He’s our Friend. Then we no longer fear any lesser powers, because we TRUST God’s love for us and that He’ll take care of us, even though all looks hopeless, that the earth’s falling apart around us, below us, down on us.
The KEY is to MAKE SURE that we fear and dread God the right way…remember, GOD IS GOD and should be respected and reverenced as such! Our priest is not God. Our pastor is not God. MY wife or my husband or the well meaning neighbour is not God. Even I am not God to myself. I did not hang the worlds in space. Only God is God. So get to know Him. Be His friend. Tremble before His ALLPOWERFUL WORD, the WORDS that were designed to GIVE US LIFE. LISTEN TO IT if we want to stay alive. Be fearful for the right reasons. Talk to Him and pray to Him yourself; you don’t need another human being to get in between and control that relationship.
When we go ahead and do what Jesus said – TRUST GOD TO TAKE CARE OF US, and LOVE OUR ENEMIES (including the volcano, the earthquake, the whirlwind, the tidal wave, and even the meteor from outer space) – then there is NOTHING else to fear. We are now living in faith and trust, in calm and peace. And fear and death can NO LONGER HAVE CONTROL OVER US. How else do you think Jesus ressurected from the grave, even from death? He trusted His Father’s Love.
This kind of peace is based in Truth of God’s Words, not escapism. And there will always be those who shout with destain and contept, “God helps those who help themselves!” Well, then help yourself, trust yourself… and see how that works out for you…it was nice knowing you. Adam & Eve already tried that path and look where it’s gotten us. God’s words are final and that’s my conclusion.
