AN Iraqi mother
wounded in the checkpoint blitz that killed 11 members
of her family said yesterday: "I saw the heads of my two
little girls come off."
Heavily pregnant
Lamea Hassan, 36, and her farmer husband Bakhat, 35,
spoke out two days after US troops blasted their
Land-Rover when it failed to stop near Karbala.
The couple lost
their daughters aged 5 and 2 and son, 3. Also killed
were Bakhat's parents, two older brothers, their wives
and two nieces.
Bakhat said his
father was wearing his best pinstripe suit "to look
American" as they tried to drive to safety.
He claimed they
were blasted after Americans at an earlier checkpoint
waved them on.
When they got to
second checkpoint "the soldiers didn't wave back. They
opened fire".
