Iceland Riots Precursor To U.S. Civil Unrest?
Demonstrators call for government to resign in wake of financial collapse

Riots and protests in Reykjavik calling for the government of Iceland to resign have increased following a financial catastrophe that has wiped out half of the krona’s value and put one third of the population at risk of losing their homes and life savings. Could similar scenes of civil unrest be repeated in the United States as the economy continues to implode?
“It was the latest in a series of protests in the capital since October’s banking collapse crippled the island’s economy. At least five people were injured and Hordur Torfason, a well-known singer in Iceland and the main organiser of the protests, said the protests would continue until the government stepped down,” reports the Scotsman.
As crowds gathered in the drizzle before the Althing, the Icelandic parliament, on Saturday, Mr Torfason said: “They don’t have our trust and they are no longer legitimate.”

Hundreds more gathered in front of a local police station, pelting eggs at the windows, using a bettering ram to force the doors open and demanding the release of a protester.
A banner hung from a government building read “Iceland for Sale: $2,100,000,000,” the amount of the loan the country will receive from the IMF.
Gudrun Jonsdottir, a 36-year-old office worker, said: “I’ve just had enough of this whole thing. I don’t trust the government, I don’t trust the banks, I don’t trust the political parties, and I don’t trust the IMF.
“We had a good country and they ruined it.”
These aren’t the actions of unwieldy mobs in third world countries, we’re talking about a country that had one of the highest living standards in Europe and a relatively wealthy and sedate population, the vast majority of whom are now in revolt over mass redundancies and the fast disappearing values of their paychecks and savings.
More peaceful protests against the Federal Reserve during the End the Fed events over the weekend were largely ignored by the U.S. corporate media, but the potential for wider chaos exists should the dollar finally cave in to the hyperinflationary bubble that is being created by the ceaseless printing of money to fund the multi-trillion dollar bailout.
Those who continue to assert, “It can’t happen here,” only need to look at the scenes in Reykjavik to realize that similar events could unfold across the U.S., where the reaction of militarized riot cops and even the military itself may be a little more heavy handed to say the least.
With top Russian analysts predicting the breakup of the U.S. into different parts, allied with people like deadly accurate trends forecaster Gerald Celente warning of food riots and tax rebellions, the scenes in Reykjavik may be amplified in the U.S. should a significant portion of the public wake up to the monumental fraud of the bailout and begin to feel the impact of its consequences as we enter 2009.

Its a start, though. One person doesn’t go from being peacefully gullible to blind fury in the space of a moment; it takes a build-up. Same with people on mass.
What people fail to understand that is “nothing will be done about it” until the right conditions occur; wars are not instigated by individuals but by economic and societal factors. Same with “waking people up”; so long as there is enough food, shelter and entertainment for the masses, it doesn’t matter what the govt gets up to or how they run the country. They have to annoy a good few million people before protests get up enough steam to be effective; “hah, yeah, sheeple rage…” Uh-huh. Tell me, while those projected eventual millions are protesting, who’s going to work?

Well…… if 100million Americans (about 30%) suddenly might become homeless, yes there would be civil unrest. Still I wouldn’t lump this in with that insanely dumb story about Russia predicting the US to break apart. You know, they would probably have to actually LOSE their homes first, before the unrest happened, since as someone already said most would just sit on their asses at first. Of course, the government could simply cease all foreclosures, and it would be pretty hard to enforce the eviction of 100million people anyway…..so, I wouldn’t compare our situation to Iceland’s.

Icelanders aren’t riotting – it isn’t in their nature. There have been protests yes, but not the riots.
In other countries there would have been blood shed – and there still might be. When people start to the bank and they won’t give them “their” savings, this would trigger riots in most places. That is already happening in Iceland, but the government is still in place.

Keep in mind that Iceland’s police don’t carry guns and usually have more than one job like firefighter. These are not the Stormtrooper cops we’re used to here in the States.
But in the context of Iceland this is still important; the reactions in the US will be proportionate and relative to our own police system – read chaos. And then order, of course.
I have friends/family in Detroit. The African American population is sedate right now b/c of Obama, but things are brewing elsewhere and even will in the AA community when reality becomes apparent. The Free Press is publishing foreclosures each Sunday – that section is equalling the size of the actual paper. And then they’re seeing Detroit as the butt of jokes on SNL and in other media. It’s a pressure cooker. It’s ground zero for the human reaction to the US financial woes.

I think we are certainly closer to seeing these things in the US than weve ever been since the Revolution. The problem is the protests will be put down rather quickly by all types of law enforcment and quite possibly our own military. And dont forget Blackwater and the like. Can we the people afford to hire these mercenaries? No, but guess who can? The powers that be, and all of their corporate and banking buddies that are sitting on all the money. This is why we cannot allow any compromise on our 2nd amendment rights. When we do, we will not have the ability to fight tyranny.

If the military and the police also feel underpaid and see many of their perks go to the dogs in the USA, the rioters would be supported by military and the police against the government. But if the military and police is treated like a spoilt child then American citizens should expect to be thrown in concentration camps like the one which exists in Guatanomo Bay. But such things will not improve the economy at all. Talk to people who have lived in tyranny – they have overthrown the tyrants in the most vicious manner – even the military and the police would be terrified. The first thing that starts happening in in police state is corruption on a very massive scale. They government can no longer continue pampering the miltary and the police -so it will seek help from the oppressed who will be used to subvert dictatorship. It would take many years but it likely it will happen.

About fifteen years ago I told a German girl that eventually I thought the United States would break up like the Soviet Union she was horrfied at the thought. Why I’m not sure but I think as much as it has change since 911 this country will totally unrecognizeable in four to five years. The Paulsons of this country have run out their hand. I think more and more Americans are waking up to the fact that all this financial “crisis” was pre-planned just as more and more people are having second thought about 911. There will probably be tax rebellions this year. If Washington further refuses to listen to We the People and keeps creating this debt-slave class where there once was a middle-class there will be a Civil War. I honestly don’t see how it could be any other way.

Obviously something smells rotten. How Iceland, one of the most prosperous and peaceful nations on earth until very recently could tumble like this is beyond comprehension. If someone would have predicted this last year, I’d of thought they were nuts.
No doubt, there was some deliberate and nasty engineering involved. The question is; how was it done? What are the specific reasons that it was it done to Iceland? And what can be done to prevent it from happening elsewhere in the world?

To all, I say LOVE is the true power and that the OATH taken by so many is a pledge out of care for what is good and right in this land we call America!
I myself do not wish for a fight and that I have called, emailed, pleaded, challenged to all concerned of their Responsibility and DUTY to the Oath for which they have pledged, from Police, Politicians, Soldiers (I am a Armorer), friends, family and all that are in positions to make a positive effect. I am just a man that loves his country and sadly I must now start preparing to defend this land I care so much about; not from some invading Foreign force but my very own ELECTED GOVERNMENT. This is a fight NONE of us should want but to all that have taken the Oath, REMEMBER this!!

Problem is, that these guys are rioting about failure of government to get IMF loan. If they understood liberty and sound money, and knew history, i.e. understood how the IMF had destroyed countries throughout time, if they really knew anything, they’d be asking for the sort of solution proposed by Ron Paul. The best solution for Iceland would be the Cook Plan accoring to Richard C Cook and his many articles on real monetary reform http://www.globalresearch.ca.
1. For starters Iceland needs no loans at all. Not from IMF or anyone. Whoever advocates new loans is a rothschild stooge or maybe just misguided by the biased bs about the inflation dangers of state banking.
2. Iceland – just as any sovereign state or country can issue its own money interest free instead of letting foreign banksters create credit from nothing and demand interest on it.
3. Iceland can and should nationalize their banks and use them for the benefit of the people and the state.
4. Iceland should change strategy to trickle -up economics i.e. create a system with a basic income for its citizens. 1000 euro monthly vouchers for every citizen and the let this new money trickle its way up through shopkeepers to these nationalized banks.
5. This way people would have money for lifes necessities – and fresh new money would start energizing the economy.
6. Iceland should also commence building new infrastructure like roads, bridges, harbours, tunnels, schools, hospitals, daycare centers and use only state bank created non-interest credit for this. This way new money would also trickle its way up through wages, building material paid for, transports etc. The new value created would match the credit issued and therefore there would be no inflation.

The system described has only one problem attached: it would be too good a system as it would bypass the predatory banking interests. In Australia,we have had some coverage of Iceland,but there is a lot going on everywhere.Icelanders do not seem to have any real enemies,except angry Britishers,who may have a Right to be,but other matters both day to day and generally would make Icelander problems easy.As a person typing this on a potato and cattle farm in Australia,I say to those who visit here,do not over generalise the misfortunes that are and will effect the U.S.A. My neighbours who recently built their 1 million dollar home have snubbed me because I do not have a pool ( which due to climate here can be used maybe 6 to 8 weeks in a year ) and did not do hire someone to do a fancy schmancy $50 grand landscape job on my house ( which I built with my own hands ) like they have.
rather my back yard consists of 2 large vegetable gardens as well as a mini orchid, recently they complained to council about the stink caused by myself trucking in 2 tons of fresh manure straight from the farm to my backyard ( believe me it was still steaming)
council to their credit told them that there is no regulation that i have broken as I am not conducting any form of business from my residence.
i told the neighbours to their face that I will give them the number of a farmer who will sell them some good soil and manure to use to fill up their pool so in the near future they can assure themselves something to eat by turning the $50,000 pool into a nice vegetable garden
I also told them that if they didn’t like the smell from my gardens that i would buy out their house from them and they could move – I offered them 350,000 for their piece of shitty try hard trendy yuppy ville house. I politely explained that this is all their home is worth as that is what i could have built it for.
That’s one neighbor that can go to hell, a different neighbor is ex military and has set himself up selling armaments to the government – recently he was boasting how he made a large sale of riot gear to a state police force. he is one to watch as I will be happy to see him and his type first against the wall and firing squad should ever a revolution come

I was one of the front line protesters in this storm on the P.D.H.Q. on Hverfisgata, although I did not enter the building myself.
The majority of the nation is glad that we are protesting but there are naysayers around here as are everywhere, too comfortable in their own delusional sense of false democracy that has been spoon-fed to them by the powers at hand and others that are just caught up in the rat-race that have denounced this protest as a horrid affair.
Needless to say, I disagree.
We are witnessing the inevitable collapse of world capitalism. The IMF, WB & Fed. system which is based on the old European banking structure (and in some cases families) and with American grandeur has turned even more grotesque in the light of it’s world dominance. Hopefully we’ll see a world that is based on better principles than profit in the near future.
However, this advent is hard and whether the inevitable collapse is nigh enough has made most people in my country vary of the IMF loan as we know that at best our grandchildrens grandchildren will pay off the last of the debt by their geriatric years. We know that if we take this loan there will be no financial sustainability for my country ever and well be forced to join the EU, which will strip us even more of our true democratic rights, will give a congress of 785 votes in Brussels full control of our country, a congress where we’ll have 6 representative votes.
This is what I am fighting against.
The case of young Haukur H. which caused the PDHQ riot was the spectulated likelihood that our minister for judicial, defensive and religious affairs (yeah, I know, imagine that in a cocktail, ROFLMAO) had his arrest ordered on the day before the big protest in light of his flagging a ‘Bónus’ flag (Icelandic dollar-store chain which was one of the corporate backers of the first bank to collapse) on top of our house of Parliament, Alþingi. HH had prior been arrested a couple of years ago for eco-activism when he stopped actions at the construction site of an aluminium smelting plant.
The chiefs of police and the judicial office have blatantly lied about this case, claiming that he was long overdue to pay a debt for that particular action, which is very strange in light of some 300 felons awaiting incarceration for various crimes, amongst them violent offenders and sexual predators.
We will not give up. My country has finally become fed-up to a serious extent for the first timein 60 years and this time we will not let the flames die down, we will keep on the good fight until these threats have been staved away.

The reason it can happen is because “how its done” is complex and beyond the experience level of most World citizens.
All you know is that something is going on and the broadcast information is not fully revealing and gives a sense of discomfort that something is left unsaid or unexplained, or doesnt really add up.
After this happens year in and year out, the general sense of mistrust is created and increases over time.
They can steal your wealth but only in ways that are not covered by current law and without actually confiscating anything directly…hence they cannot be easily accused or prosecuted for it….additionally if they are governmental agents they can pass law after benign appearing law and hide within the bowels of that key provisions that are enablers for their future actions.
Until it is revealed fully how they accomplish this subterfuge, it will continue to slip under the radar of citizen action due to lack of being able to identify the actual orchestrators of this and whereupon a strategy can be created to negate this long term udermining of legitimate institutions and lawful governments.
Their slow and insidious strategic approach makes it difficult for citizen groups to react timely and sufficiently, and indeed may mean the end result is already a foregone conclusion.

People often ask me why I don´t watch what´s going on.
I do. I make more money out of this situation than most other people in Reykjavik or Iceland in general.
Poor as I am at present economically but yet independent enough , I am richer than the minister of foreign affairs , my friend Ingibjörg Solrun Gisladottir.
I tried to tell my family that they wanted this protest because that would bring Iceland to knees before the EU , and I , Geir H. Haarde and others tried to request for the people not to remove the government and maintain calmness and be rational.
I keep myself as far away from the protest as I can.
It´s as if both my people and I are being asked telepathically not to stay near the protests.
I keep informing the calm and rational people that the Althing (Alþingi) is really a construction company started in 1944 which has no realationship or descendancy to the Althing of the Vikings because that was an Althing of the people.
People tell me that the British hate Icelanders.
I ask them in return – how can humans naturally hate other humans?

These have also been very few protesters – less than 10 , 000 people in total.
I know that this may sound ridiculous to most people , but on december 1st next month , I will be richer and more economically independent than the minister of foreign affairs in Iceland , because she lost a lot of posessions due to the crash.

It’s such a shame! I never got to see Iceland nor its beauty! Iceland’s predicament may only be a harbinger of the not-too-distant future for all of us!
As to our Icelandic friend, I would suggest using your knowledge to help the protesters organize a good, solid plan rather than trying to dissuade them from protesting at all. Chances are your country’s government, like most of the rest of the world’s, is horribly corrupt and filled with unrepentant criminals. You would probably do more good to help with better answers and organizing a plan to deal with your circumstances after the collapse of government if it be so.
The US Government needs to take serious heed to what’s going on elsewhere! There is nothing more frightening than an angry mob of MILLIONS of dissatisfied Americans!
The FED is already about to “dump” more hundreds-of-billions into our already decrepit economic system!!!

Clinton shoved the god forsaken NAFTA program down americans throats. Since NAFTA america has lost a gazillion jobs and turned us into a nation of consumption. Clinton also sold U.S. missle technology to China! All in all slick willy lined his pockets pretty well! Let’s not forget our current pres. The real wakeup call will come soon on the new year as more and more dirt is surfacing and getting more obvious how gollable the nation turned out to be, borrughing money like there was no tomorrow, many spoke against the madness only to be written off as boring pessimists. It is all to much for most to realy grasp reality here still, a lot of the younger generations in Iceland is though aware of whats going down, many of them are taking their dormant parents through some reality sheck these days and educate them and make them face the lies and the corruption all a round. But that is not easy, the fog of deseption is thick.
Now the big corporations gradually take over Iceland and then USA and the rest of them, all the loans and beilouts for future generations of taxpayers(slaves) to work for and pay with intrest, the plan unfolds nicely for the top banking elite, perharps Iceland should get Baron David de Rothschild to run our banks, now, there is a family name that survives all depressions!

Obviously, the generosity of a nation would be accounted for in both its government giveaways and in the charitable donations of its citizens. I believe most “USA-ians”, think of themselves as generous because per capita they give at least 2.5 times more of their income as a percent of gdp to charity than the next closest nation, including all of Europe.
Ozzie, as much as dislike your comments, which drip with hatred for any “USA-ian”, there are some valid points in your statements. Norway does give a high percent of its gdp in aid to poorer nations. The US by comparison gives significantly less.
Does the fact that the citizens of the countries in the Europe give significantly less to charity as a percent of gdp than US citizens mean that they are less concerned of the those less fortunate? Or that “US-ians” care more? NO, No more than the fact that Norway and some other Nordic countries governments give significantly more in foreign aid as a percent of gdp than the US, means those countries care more or the US cares less.
I hear all the time that we “US-ians” keep making such a big deal about how much we give to the poor, or to other countries in aid. And that is in part what people find so aggrevating about us. Well, we wouldn’t have to keep bringing it up if others didn’t try to use this as a means to insult us as a society. Virtually every country’s citizens have a strong sense of national pride. To put 300+ million people in the same box is not only insulting, but shows your narrow-mindness.
