Illinois governor arrested for trying to sell Obama’s senate seat

CHICAGO (AFP) — The governor of Illinois was arrested Tuesday on charges of conspiring to sell an appointment to president-elect Barack Obama’s recently open US senate seat, prosecutors said.
Governor Rod Blagojevich and his chief of staff, John Harris, were also accused to trying to “induce purge of newspaper editorial writers,” critical of him at the Tribune Company, the US attorney’s office said in a statement.
“The breadth of corruption laid out in these charges is staggering,” US attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said in a statement.

“They allege that Blagojevich put a ‘for sale’ sign on the naming of a United States Senator; involved himself personally in pay-to-play schemes with the urgency of a salesman meeting his annual sales target; and corruptly used his office in an effort to trample editorial voices of criticism.”
Blagojevich was allegedly intercepted on court-authorized wiretaps discussing obtaining how he could profit from the fact that it is the governor’s role to appoint a US senator when a seat becomes vacant, according to a 76-page FBI affidavit.
Blagojevich compared himself to a sports agent selling the seat to the highest bidder in one recorded conversation, the affidavit alleges, and also spent a significant amount of time weighing the option of appointing himself to the seat.

(Kissinger voice) Ah! Blago drew the shortest straw, your names going to be ‘a convenient distraction’ for the network news. Dont worry, Foley and Spitzer are not standing in any unemployment line. I’m by no means a Blago supporter but take a look at the events over the last 24 hours. Yesterday he announced he will no longer do business with Bank of America. Today he is arrested and the media is already burning him.

So that is the reason for the rice cakes. Yesterday, Blago took rice cakes and water to the brave factory workers here in Chicago who did not want to go down without a fight. I thought Good Lord, who brings rice cakes to a protest? Blago wanted to be Sec of Health and Human Services. But there is an even deeper issue. For decades now, our morality consisted of how we took care of our bodies. Doesn’t matter how we lie, cheat, and steal. Doesn’t matter how we hurt people. As long as we worship at the temple of body beautiful it is all o.k. And sheeple are so distracted over their own guilt at enjoying a cupcake or two, they don’t even see what is going on under their nose. Well, Blago look at it this way. You will have plenty of time to work out in prison!

Not surprised he was arrested. But anyone who says it has to do with Bank of America sure does not know what has been going on in Illinois. He has been under investigation for corruption for years before today. And before he went to the sit in at the factory here in Illinois. I am very surprised he wasn’t arrested before today.

Who is the fool surprised by this? Eight years of a deluxe idiot who promised to make sure this country could never recover his reign and some happy mindless fools can not believe what is going on could happen! Let us see what next year at this time is like and of course it will be OBAMA’s fault and no result of the DELUXE IDIOT BUSH. REPUBLICANS at best are stupid, but certainly not finished in their destruction of the USA.

I agree with the first post… no evidence. Two days before they arrested him he was shown on CNN’s headline news at a Chicago sit-in for door makers who had lost their jobs because Bank of America cut off the line of credit. He said to everyone that the people of Illinois will not do business with B of A until they restore the line of credit and get the people their jobs back. Was he taken into custody because he spoke out against the bank? Seems fishy to me… not saying he’s a great guy, but certainly no worse than any other polititan. At least he was honest about putting Obama’s senate seat for sale… every open senate seat is for sale. And he had the balls to stand up against the bank.

Give me a break guys, both parties suck!! There may be a few good men in between and that about it. Nevertheless, if Blago boy is guilty, I say HANG HIM! We’re beginning to look like a third world country here. Pretty soon we’ll be starting over…..until then, it won’t be fun, so dig in.
