  • Iran warns of Gulf blitzkrieg, Hormuz closure

    AFP
    Sunday, July 6, 2008

Iran’s military chiefs warned on Saturday that the Islamic republic would shut down the Strait of Hormuz vital for oil exports and use “blitzkrieg tactics” in the Gulf if it came under attack.

“All the countries should know that if Iran’s interests in the region are ignored, it is natural that we will not allow others to use it (the strait),” said army chief General Hassan Firouzabadi, quoted by the Fars news agency.

However, Iran’s armed forces joint chief of staff stressed his country’s priority was that the Strait of Hormuz remain open.

Speculation has been rife that Israel could be planning a military strike against Iranian nuclear sites, using force to halt Tehran’s controversial atomic activities.

The chief of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards militia, General Mohammad Ali Jafari, meanwhile, warned that his forces would use “blitzkrieg tactics” in the Gulf if his country came under attack.

“The Guards are equipped with the most advanced missiles that can strike the enemies’ vessels and naval equipment with fatal blows,” Fars quoted the Guards chief as saying.

In case of attack, “blitzkrieg tactics and operations of the Guards’ boats will not leave a chance for the enemies to run away.”

“These words do not mean that the prerequisites of war are being set but these are the strategies that our alert armed forces have prepared for any hypothesis,” he added.

The new commander of the US Fifth Fleet, Vice Admiral William Gortney, said on Saturday that the American naval presence in the region was “a very clear message that we are here to maintain security and to provide stability.”

    1. Cevin Says:

Once this war has been declared and gas jumps to about $8/gallon will more people in this country wake up and realize something isn’t right? Or will they just continue to accept the fact that the dollar they have been working 40+ hours a week for has been devalued so much that it only covers fuel?

    2. Dia Says:

From what I see around me, they’ll just accept it. Roll over. Maybe when it’s $10 they’ll at least open one eye.

    3. Anthony Says:

The illogic stemming from the White House is absolutely confounding. On the one hand Emperor Bush concedes that Iran has the right to pursue nuclear technology for peaceful energy purposes, but on the other hand he insists that they are pursuing nuclear weapons despite the fact that the CIA has informed him otherwise. When it came to going to war with Iraq he didn’t question the supposed “evidence” the CIA presented to him, but now that the CIA evidence doesn’t coincide with his lunatic plans he just disregards it. Eight years of George W. Bush has left these united States of America with no hope for a positive future. When will we be fed up with the lies?

    4. hp Says:

This planned conflict cannot be understood in terms of US national interests. The elite running the US government will benefit from having the two carrier task force groups on the bottom of the Gulf just as they have benefited from the destruction of the US economy and the dollar. And they care no more for US servicemen than for Iraqi civilians. The Iranians will shoot them like ducks in a pond, bringing nuclear retaliation down on their heads. US naval power will diminish, opening the stage for the Chinese. The shit-heads will continue to float on the top until …

    5. Doomgerbil Says:

There is no hope, all roads lead to Rome, the Dark Lord rules over all and his servant the Pope Gladly does His Bidding. This September the new world order will begin, waste and despair doom has come at last!

    6. Howard Says:

Hey Doom, the “pope” in an antipope and an antichrist. Go to mostholyfamilymonastery.com. The truth is out there. And this is from a militant churchman, not a novus ordo (new order) heretic.

    7. JEH Says:

If you play with fire, you will get burned.
Those Navy ships are sitting ducks and they know it. I would not be surprised if the Navy attacked itself just get the warball rolling. Maybe they can have Israel attack our Navy like they did before and blame iran. Seems logical based on past events.
The oil companies need this so they can get $50 a gallon and really finish us off once and for all. Record profit and only have to sell 1/10 as much. Nice.

    8. JEH Says:

I am surprised that Russia and China don’t seem to realize the danger they are in. The more shit we pull, the more they will open their eyes to USA world conquest. What goes around will come around, never fails.

Third World War , coming soon, brought to you by NWO

    10. Paul Says:

Hey I live near the Straight of Horumuz – just before it near the beginning of the mountainous Musandam – an isolated Omani region past northern U.A.E. Relatively untouched by modernity. It’s beautiful, stunning, nothing like it in the world. Deep blue waters meet stoic hard-rock mountains. People still living traditional lifestyles – huts built in every valley, I’m guessing as many goats as there are people. I go swimming in these waters as much as possible. We lay out the lunch-mat on the beach where my family sits and my small children play with sea crabs. We come here to relax. No signs of danger at all. Just calm, tranquility, teenagers playing football in the sand, an occasional local fishing boat floating by in near-distance from time to time. I wonder how much would change if they were to close the Strait.

    11. RXppZ2h0 Says:

Yeeeee-haaaaaw i hope they do shut it down.
We got wood to burn in our stoves and stills to make fuel with where i live.
We got deer to shoot for meat and a garden to grow our tomatoes.
      YeeeeeHaaaaw.
Shut it all down and we’ll show you how it was done in the 1800’s
Back to the good ol days folks :-) yeppers.

    12. yellowhak1 Says:

      RX: that was hilarious

    13. counrty bo Says:

A country boy can survive, I can run a trout line, trap, hunt and fish, i can grow a garden and raid the neighbors. Food is everywhere if you know where to look.
City people are screwed.( if they dont know how to live like they did before walmart.)

    14. AHMED Says:

      Greetings,

I bet one day America will be nuked.

    15. Chris Says:

All the things are ramping up as they did for the Iraq war. Now, we need to wait it out. This will surley make the dollar collapse and plunge us into another uneeded war.

    16. mike Says:

OK, let’s really be serious here. I DO NOT want to go to war with Iran, nor do I support Bush’s imperialistic policies, but…

We have hundreds of thousands of troops and Blackwater types in Iraq, and most would agree they are unnecessary. We have both elite and regular troops in Afghanistan, and we are flying Predators all over Pakistan (along with troops if truth be told). We have naval superiority in the Gulf, Arabian Sea, the Med. And let’s not forget about those trigger-happy Israelis…..

A couple of Aegis-class destroyer groups are all that are really necessary to guarantee “open skies” from Iranian missile defenses.

Blitzkreig???? Anyone who knows anything will tell you that is only possible with air superiority.

While a conflict like this would definitely be destabilizing to the region, and the administration would use it as an excuse to jack us on gas prices even more, it is highly unlikely that we would suffer much in the way of losses.

    17. Gregory Fegel Says:

Hezbollah in Lebanon is prepared to rain down 20,000 missiles tipped with fuel-air explosive, chemical, radioactive, or biological warheads on Israel. Iran is prepared to ’swarm’ the US fleet with attack boats and planes. Good riddance to Israel and the US fleet!

    18. Danny Cunnington Says:

Aegis class deystroyers are not an effective defence against anti-ship cruise and sea skimming missiles. Because of the mountainous terrian on the Iranian gulf coast the fifth fleet will have less than a two minute warning of an attack which it has no real defence against.

A multiple attack using Sunburn SSN25 cruise missiles will be devastating for a large fleet literally trapped in a pond called the gulf.

The US military have already war gamed this assuming a sea skimming exocet and silk worm multiple attack and the projection was the entire loss of the fifth fleet.

Although we already know what an exocet can do (HMS Sheffield and USS Cole) the world has never seen a multiple cruise missile attack employed against shipping in such a small body of water.
SNN 25 Sunburn cruise missiles wiegh 5 tons and travel at 2,150 MPH 30 feet above the service. Just the kenectic force is enough to literally rip an aircraft carrier in two setting off numerous secondary explosions, total loss and massive casaulities.

Did you forget about the entire Iraq air force that flew over to bases in Iran at the onset of Gulf war 1? They are still there complete with Iraqi markings. Perfectly mantained.

There is a saying in Arab Street: “A man that waits 40 years for revenge is considered impatient!”

    19. Gary Says:

I surely hope we do not provoke Iran into another war. If we do though, I hope they not only retaliate hard, but fast. Their speed will allow them to inflict the most casualties and pick out the best targets. Only when American suffers a real defeat (which we have not to date) then maybe the warmongering will cease and then we can get onto the right track.

Sad to say, I hope for 20,000+ casualties… the more Blackwater eliminated the better.

    20. randomguy Says:

Okay…first of all…anyone who honestly thinks that Iran (with the help of Hizbollah, Hamas and Shiite groups in Iraq) can actually defeat the US and Israel in an actual shooting war is deluding themselves.
I’m not suggesting that the US and Israel would win in a cakewalk, though. I’m sure that Iran might be able to do fair amount of damage to the US Navy as well as US and Israel targets in the Middle East but the full strength of US airpower will crush any offense the Iranians can muster inside of the first few weeks of bombardment.
Beyond that…it’s interesting to note that NONE of you caught the fact that the Iranians throw out terms like “blitzkrieg” while talking about this in an obvious reference to WWII and the Nazi effort to eradicate the Jews.
Very many people on this site are so intent on hating the big bad Americans (and those evil Israelis) that your ready to overlook the fact that there are other evil people out there, too.

    21. Razor Says:

Would some of you quit this “Let’s back up Israel” crap. They are just as much thugs as the rest of the middle east. Oh, wait, I forgot… most of the so-called Jews in the region look like Anglos. Some of them are even American implants. Now it all makes sense!

    22. Obongo Says:

No more policy geared towards Israel please, i have enough of the Israelis and the Israel lobby in the USA. IF they want to fight wars, then the jews living in the USA should migrate to Israel and fight there, leave us out of it, my tax dollars should not be used on behalf of keeping a handful of jews safe in the desert.
