Israel mulls truce proposals as jets pound Gaza

Israel mulled proposals for a truce to its Gaza offensive on Wednesday but ruled out any temporary halts, as jets pounded Hamas targets for a fifth day and the Islamists pummelled Israel with rockets.
Amid mushrooming protests around the globe, the world’s top diplomats scrambled to find a way to end one of Israel’s deadliest-ever offensives on Gaza that has so far killed at least 390 Palestinians.
The Israeli security cabinet convened in Tel Aviv to consider international proposals of a truce , with a senior government official telling AFP the Jewish state would not agree to a French offer of a 48-hour lull.

“The proposition by the French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner for a unilateral temporary ceasefire is not useful as it is evident that Hamas will not stop firing rockets against Israel,” said the official on condition of anonymity.
A foreign ministry spokesman said that the Jewish state would only consider a permanent halt to its operation, under the condition that Hamas stops firing rockets and acquiring arms.

There is a thing called Karma, the world is merely a mirror which reflects back to you, your own actions. The Palestinans are paying for their previous actions, and the Isreali’s will have to pay in time for their current actions.
What goes around, comes around.
Only when these groups have learnt to put the past behind them, forgive each other in other words, will things change.
The sad fact about the human race is, almost all live in the past. Very few are intelligent enough to live in the present.
The simple truth is you can only enjoy life Now (in the present), the more you live in the past (by continually thinking about previously suffered pain) the more you resurrect that pain, and suffer all over again.
If you are intelligent enough to be able to see this fact, and consequently give up dwelling on/in you own inner pain (by giving up thinking about the past, unless it is absolutely necessary). You will see there are many in the World who will try to Re-mind you of the painfull situations you (and others) have lived through, and make you unhappy once more.
When you forgive your enemies, the only one who stops suffering is you. Hate only hurts the Hater.
The more you live in the present (now), by giving up the past (emotional past/pain) the happier you will be.
The truth is you can only enjoy life NOW.
It is NOT possible to enjoy life yesterday.
As Human Be-ings we are meant to ‘BE’, well in my experience it is only possible to ‘BE’ NOW.
The fact is, in this EMOTIONALLY run (PAST run) World, we are taught (by the example of others), from an early age to dwell on everything, so gathering/harbouring/resurrecting EMOTIONAL PAIN/SUFFERING.
Things have now become so bad, that if you are seen to be happy others will ask “what is wrong with you, why are you so happy”?
The current situation is that most people are not happy, unless they are unhappy.
The only real question is, Are you willing to give up feeding/resurrecting your own inner pain/suffering?, and in doing so, stopping spreading/inflicting it (emotional pain) onto others.
Happy NEW YEAR, lets hope we see some REAL INTELLIGENCE THIS COMING YEAR.

Wouldn’t it be nice if Israel would have to contend with an enemy country bombing them and they were unable to fight back? Would Israel beg for a truce? I suspect they would. Arrogance is a dangerous trait to possess as it almost always leads to a downfall. Hopefully with Amerika’s monetary problems, being able to fund Israel with borrowed Chinese money will come to an end. Israel may have to resort to trying to make peace instead of threatening to wipe other countries off the map.
Israel, not Iran, is the second biggest threat in the Middle east now (Amerika being number one).

This Yana Dlugy who wrote the article calls Israel a “Jewish state” when most of the people there are not Jews, and many Jews are not Zionists. She should have called it the ‘Zionist state’. She also says that it is “Islamists” that are firing rockets into the Zionist state. Islamist is not even a word, and is not found in the dictionary. Perhaps she means Muslims, but that wouldn’t be accurate either. I think ‘resistance fighters’ would be more appropriate as this is a political, not a religious battle.
It’s a good thing that Jews never fired home-made rockets at the Nazis, otherwise the holocaust would have been totally justified. And Israel wouldn’t have a leg to stand on.

The world must realise 19 jews have been killed since 2002 by Hamas rockets. The attack on Gaza is therefore justified, am I not correct TBaug. What are a few thousand palestinian lives worth, for we all know one israeli cow is worth one million jews in 1942 Germany.

1,176 people have been killed by Palestinian violence and terrorism since September 2000. That does not count the untold violence done to Jewish people. I am not however a Jew and am not interested in making their argument for them. They have much more qualified folks for that. I just find it interesting how crazy people get when they defend their country. You are not really interested in both sides; you just want to bash the Jews and anyone that supports America. I’m sure you love to see Israel go down in flames. You’re a disturbed person.

The Hamas terror war against Israel: 1,212 rockets and 1,290 mortar bombs fired from the Gaza Strip have struck southern Israel since the beginning of the year. Israel has had 60 rockets fired on them in just the last few days from the Gaza Strip. I think it’s justice to exterminate those responsible and anyone harboring them.

Hello Gary S; please do not speak for me “ever.” I have never advocated extermination of any people, in fact I’ve indicated that America is the only country on the planet safeguarding people from genocide. On Tuesday, Hamas legislators marked the Christmas season by passing a Shari’a criminal code for the Palestinian Authority. Among other things, it legalizes crucifixion.
Hamas’s endorsement of nailing enemies of Islam to crosses came at the same time it renewed its jihad. Here, too, Hamas wanted to make sure that Christians didn’t feel neglected as its fighters launched missiles at Jewish day care centers and schools. So on Wednesday, Hamas lobbed a mortar shell at the Erez crossing point into Israel just as a group of Gazan Christians were standing on line waiting to travel to Bethlehem for Christmas.

Our finest young men are attacking Gaza now. Good boys from good homes are doing bad things. Most of them are eloquent, impressive, self-confident, often even highly principled in their own eyes, and on Black Saturday dozens of them set out to bomb some of the targets in our “target bank” for the Gaza Strip.
They set out to bomb the graduation ceremony for young police officers who had found that rare Gaza commodity, a job, massacring them by the dozen. They bombed a mosque, killing five sisters of the Balousha family, the youngest of whom was 4. They bombed a police station, hitting a doctor nearby; she lies in a vegetative state in Shifa Hospital, which is bursting with wounded and dead. They bombed a university that we in Israel call the Palestinian Rafael, the equivalent of Israel’s weapons developer, and destroyed student dormitories. They dropped hundreds of bombs out of blue skies free of all resistance.
In four days they killed 375 people. They did not, and could not, distinguish between a Hamas official and his children, between a traffic cop and a Qassam launch operator, between a weapons cache and a health clinic, between the first and second floors of a densely populated apartment building with dozens of children inside. According to reports, about half of the people killed were innocent civilians. We’re not complaining about the pilots’ accuracy, it cannot be otherwise when the weapon is a plane and the objective is a tiny, crowded strip of land. Our excellent pilots are effectively bullies now. As in training flights, they bomb undisturbed, facing neither an air force nor defense system.
It is hard to judge what they are thinking, how they feel. It’s unlikely to be relevant, anyway. They are measured by their actions. In any event, from an altitude of thousands of feet the picture looks as sterile as a Rorschach inkblot. Lock onto the target, press the button and then a black column of smoke. Another “successful hit.” None see the effects on the ground of their actions. Their heads must surely be filled with Gaza horror stories – they themselves have never been there – as if there aren’t a million and a half people living there who only want to live with a minimum of honor, some of them young like themselves, with dreams of studying, working, raising a family but who have no chance to fulfill their dreams with or without the bombing.
Do the pilots think about them, the children of refugees whose parents and grandparents have already been driven from their lives? Do they think about the thousands of people they have left permanently disabled in a place without a single hospital worthy of the name and no rehabilitation centers at all? Do they think about the burning hatred they are planting not only in Gaza but in other corners of the world amid the horrific images on television?
It was not the pilots who decided to go to war, but they are the subcontractors. The real accounting must be with the decision makers, but the pilots are their partners. When they return home they will be welcomed with all the respect and honor we reserve for them. It appears that not only will no one try to provoke moral questioning among them, but that they are considered the real heroes of this cursed war. The Israel Defense Forces spokesman is already going over the top with praise in his daily briefings for the “wonderful work” they are doing. He too, of course, completely ignores the images from Gaza. After all, these are not sadistic Border Police officers beating up Arabs in the alleys of Nablus and the center of Hebron, or cruel undercover soldiers who shoot their targets point-blank in cold blood. These, as we have said, are our finest young men.
Maybe if they were to confront the results of their “wonderful work” even once they would regret their decisions, they would reconsider the effects of their actions. If they were to go just once to Jerusalem’s Alyn Hospital Pediatric and Adolescent Rehabilitation Center, where for nearly three years Marya Aman, 7, has been hospitalized – she is a quadriplegic who runs her wheelchair, and her life, with her chin – they would be shocked. This adorable little girl was hit by a missile in Gaza that killed almost her entire family, the handiwork of our pilots.
But all of this is well hidden from the pilots’ eyes. They are only doing their job, as the saying goes, only following orders like bombing machines. In the past few days they have excelled at this, and the results are there for the entire world to see. Gaza is licking its wounds, just like Lebanon before it, and almost no one pauses for a moment to ask whether all this is necessary, or unavoidable, or whether it contributes to Israel’s security and moral image. Is it really the case that our pilots return safely to base, or are they in fact returning to them as callous, cruel and blind people?

If the Pals wanted peace, all they had to do was not fire rockets at Isreal over the last year. Now it is too late. They should do what armies of the past have done. Start at the east side and work their way west. Wipe out every man, woman, child, and beast in the area and be done with it. They would take some flak for a while, but the problem would be solved. I am so sick of people standing up for the palis.. If they wanted peace, they could have had it. As it is, they are the ones who kept shooting. No sympathy for the devil, or “the religion of peace”.

I am all too well aware of the evils of the Palestinian people but not all of them are bad. My husband’s country of Lebanon has camps for these Palestinians and they cannot leave these camps under any circumstance – if any of you heard about the problems that they do cause it is still going on. The only difference is that the Lebanese army handles things better than Israel and many Lebanese soldiers have paid their lives protecting innocent civilians. What Israel is doing is that they fight with bombs shot from airplanes and they know very well what they are hitting since everything is computerized and with the google earth type of equipment that they have – they sure know and then when they bomb innocent people they start their apologies to the world because they know that they are all guilty.
I think I said somewhere that I wasn’t defending the Palestinian militants but I was defending the innocent civilians.
Someone mentioned on this forum why other Arab countries don’t take these people in but they have taken them in and don’t want any of them. Palestinians are not liked by any of the Arabs. Name the country and they don’t want them but a life is a life no matter who they are. I despise war and carnage of any kind. The more these wars go on the more Osamas or whether they want to name them will go on and on and all sides whether Israeli or Arab all believe in an “eye for an eye”.
Not all Jews are bad and that I agree and said that many times and don’t think that a lot of my posts went through. I blame the government of Israel and the government of the US for giving weapons of mass destruction to the Israeli Zionists.
