Israel to halt Gaza bombings as diplomacy revs up

Israel said it would suspend bombing Gaza for three hours every day beginning on Wednesday as diplomacy to end the Jewish state’s war on Hamas gained momentum amid a mounting civilian death toll.
“It was decided to suspend bombings between 1 and 4 o’clock (1100 GMT and 1400 GMT) every day starting today,” an army spokeswoman told AFP, adding that the military would respond if fired on and if rockets were launched from the enclave.
Another official at the defence ministry told AFP that “the army will stop its operations in the area of Gaza City.”
The announcement came hours after Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Israel would open a humanitarian corridor into Gaza — a key point of an Egyptian plan to end the 12-day-old campaign that has killed at least 680 Palestinians.

“In order to prevent a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert decided to adopt a proposal by the security establishment to open a humanitarian corridor into the Gaza Strip to assist the population,” said a statement from his office.

Strip away everything else, all of the emotional horsecrap, and you’re left with the following facts:
1) In 1948, a section of land was taken from one group of people (Palestinians) and given to another group of people (Israel) by a third group of people (The Allies from WWII).
2) This third group of people had NO legal right to make this happen, but established “borders” for both of the other groups anyway; being superpowers they got away with it.
3) Ever since then, the second group of people have been expanding their share of the illegal establishment outside of the borders illegally established for them by the third group.
Final analysis: Israel has no real and true legal “right” to hold lands that did not belong to them.
Further, even if we were to arbitrarily accept that they do have such a right (and indeed it IS arbitrary, as many nations have come and gone in the time of the UN without a peep of “right to exist”), the Israeli borders were established and Israel is not within them… that, by definition, is an invasion of another country and the “other” country is legally entitled to fight the invaders.

They knew what they were doing, and now they, and thru Israeli apologist statements like this, want to pretend to diplomacy ( albeit a neutered attempt at ” diplomacy ” according to this statement ) so the rest of the world doesn’t see them as the bunch of murderers they have become?
