The Israeli President says undiplomatic options are still on the table to deal with Iran if the US fails to halt Iran’s nuclear program through diplomacy.
“Engagement is an attempt to achieve a goal. If this attempt will succeed, OK, but we don’t have to cross out any other options,” Reuters quoted Shimon Peres as saying in a speech to Jewish leaders and diplomats in New York on Wednesday.
Peres met US President, Barack Obama, in Washington on Tuesday and voiced support for the new US administration’s efforts to solve Iran’s nuclear issue through diplomacy.
Israel’s right-wing government led by hawkish politician Benjamin Netanyahu, however, says it is determined to stop Iran’s nuclear program, even through military action.
Last week, Peres declared that the best way to deter Iran from continuing its nuclear program was to threaten it with a “nuclear response”.
