  • Japan to label goods’ carbon footprints: official

    AFP
    Tuesday, Aug 19, 2008

Japan is planning to label consumer goods to show their carbon footprints in a bid to raise public awareness about global warming, an official said Tuesday.

Under the plan, a select range of products from beverages to detergent will carry markings on the carbon footprint — or how much gas responsible for global warming has been emitted through production and delivery.

Similar labels have been introduced in other developed countries such as Britain and France.

“We hope that displaying carbon footprints will raise awareness among consumers as well as companies of their emissions and motivate them to emit less C02,” said trade ministry official Shintaro Ishihara, who is unrelated to Tokyo’s governor by the same name.

The ministry’s research shows one example of carbon footprint using potato crisps.

    1. Thought Police Says:

Everyone: when do you realistically see WW III beginning? I really don’t know, ten days, ten months?

    2. meanjean Says:

What is the carbon footprint (or butt-print)of emissions as the result of eating beans?? Can they tax that too?

    3. , Says:

Carbon footprint and global warming are the biggest hoaxes of the 21st century. There is a lot of money to be made conning the world population to the tune of trillions of dollars. Every corrupt criminal official is jumping on board to cash in on this big prize. The general masses are truly sheep who can be conned to believe anything.

    4. Jordan Says:

It’s funny because usually Japan could give a damn about the environment. They overfish, hunt and sell the meat of endangered species, etc. But when it comes to establishing carbon footprints so that they can be taxed later, they are all for it.

    5. Howard Says:

What about “ice age” footprints? Surely we wouldn’t want to cause an ice age?

    6. NoNWOhere Says:

Here in BC Canada, we have the Carbon Tax or rather, the BS Tax.
Just a cash cow for the lining of government pockets.
Essentially, they are taxing us for merely EXISTING!! We are to be punished and taxed for the sin of being alive.
Hmmmm!!! So much for living free.

    7. Howard Says:

      Thought Police,

The World War has been going on for 2000 years, as the jews and their cohorts have been attacking all things decent, wholesome, honest and righteous from different angles all this time. The “hot” wars are just another phase, tactic or form of persuasion in bringing them closer to absolute and complete world domination and world enslavement.

    8. Steven Says:

lol wow pretty soon they are going to have comercials asking us to inhale our own farts to save the planet. as for the jews taking over the world I find that to be complete and utter bullshit. its not the jews its the elite who are screwing us over.

    9. RayB Says:

Aren’t those Japanese that started Kyoto have realized that they made a big mistake yet? Do the Japanese have enough honor to face their mistakes? I don’t think so. You should all commit harakiri! Shame all!

    10. Jen Says:

Ummmm It’s been FREEEEZING THIS SUMMER!!!!!!

I have to laugh…it’s that or cry and really…when you think about it…all this global warming stuff is pretty funny.

    11. meanjean Says:

Thanks, Steven; that’s the answer I was waiting for!!! Ha!!!Ha!!!
Pretty soon we’ll be the victims of another false flag ops & none of this crap will matter.

    12. Dee Jay Says:

Instead of “carbon footprints” on food labels, I would prefer to see the words “irradiated” and GMO’s on my labels. (Genetically Modified Organisms).

“What is the carbon footprint (or butt-print)of emissions as the result of eating beans?? Can they tax that too?”

Try and think logically for a second. IF the elites WANTED a Carbon Tax, why haven’t they already levied one? What are they waiting for? None of us could stop them if they REALLY wanted it, so why haven’t they? I’ll give you the answer in a reply to another comment below.

      @Building Six

“Hey, I thought these guys had some common sense. WTF. Yes, meanjean. It can be taxed. See Al Gore’s testimony with bitchface Clinton.”

      See above, and below.

      @,

“Carbon footprint and global warming are the biggest hoaxes of the 21st century.”

      BULLSHIT.

“There is a lot of money to be made conning the world population to the tune of trillions of dollars.”

      INCREDIBLE BULLSHIT.

Here is the truth. The income from fossil fuels FAR exceeds ANY tax they could levy. In fact a tax would REDUCE consumption of fossil fuels as companies SERIOUSLY looked at alternative energy sources (in fact they already ARE thanks to the 500% price rise of crude oil in the last 8 years).

The reality is, a Carbon Tax is the SECOND TO LAST thing the elites want, BUT it is far better then the alternative, which is that we, the people, switched to solar energy and STOPPED PAYING FOR ELECTRICITY. MIT has already found a way to do THAT, and the elites KNEW it was coming sooner or later. So they jacked up oil prices to squeeze every last cent they could out of us, and they pushed the idea of a Carbon Tax to fool idiots like you into taking THEIR side, and also as a way to make US pay for the damage THEY profited from causing.

ExxonMobil ALONE took nearly ONE THIRD OF A TRILLION dollars out of OUR pockets in 2006 alone, and prices have gone up by at least 40% since then. Do you SERIOUSLY think ANY tax could generate THAT amount of income? Hell no! If you add ALL the fossil fuel companies and all the electricity utilities and all the distribution and transport systems together, ExxonMobil’s profit would be just a drop in the barrel!

Nothing makes as much money for the elites as fossil fuels – why do you think they are constantly fighting each other to control them? So if you REALLY want to fight the elites, you should be hitting them where it hurts – in their fossil fuel profits!

“Every corrupt criminal official is jumping on board to cash in on this big prize.”

They already are – it’s called the “energy economy” and it makes them TRILLIONS a year. Everything you buy has a “tax” attached – the price of the fuel to make, ship and sell it! That is why when oil prices go up, so does the price of just about everything else.

“The general masses are truly sheep who can be conned to believe anything.”

Yes YOU are! You have been conned to believe that the elites WANT to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, when the truth is the EXACT OPPOSITE. Well done for being such an easily manipulated fool!

“It’s funny because usually Japan could give a damn about the environment. They overfish, hunt and sell the meat of endangered species, etc. But when it comes to establishing carbon footprints so that they can be taxed later, they are all for it.”

Actually, it makes perfect sense (except the tax bullshit). The truth is the Japanese have always acted in a selfish manner, doing anything they want if it benefits them. NOT BEING INUNDATED, benefits them!

      —-

      @Howard

“What about “ice age” footprints? Surely we wouldn’t want to cause an ice age?”

      We aren’t, so it is a non-issue.

      Oh bullshit.

“Every British Columbia resident will receive a cheque for $100 before July from the government to offset a new carbon tax announced by the provincial Liberals in their budget yesterday.”

“Lower-income British Columbians will receive a Climate Action Credit of $100 per adult and $30 per child annually to offset the cost of the carbon tax, Taylor said.”

“B.C. expects to collect $1.85 billion over the next three years from the tax, dwarfing the $200 million Quebec collects each year. Unlike Quebec’s system, which collects the money to fund green technologies, Taylor said the province’s system will be revenue-neutral.”

“The carbon tax will cost a family of four with a van and average costs an additional $46 annually, the equivalent of less than one fill-up a year, said Taylor.

The tax is the equivalent of an additional 2.4 cents per litre. Over the last year, gas prices have bounced up and down 30 to 40 cents at the pump.”
      http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/305170

The OIL companies have already “taxed” you far more than the government ever will!

Now if you REALLY want to do something about it, MIT has the answer:

“Until now, solar power has been a daytime-only energy source, because storing extra solar energy for later use is prohibitively expensive and grossly inefficient. With today’s announcement, MIT researchers have hit upon a simple, inexpensive, highly efficient process for storing solar energy.

Requiring nothing but abundant, non-toxic natural materials, this discovery could unlock the most potent, carbon-free energy source of all: the sun. “This is the nirvana of what we’ve been talking about for years,” said MIT’s Daniel Nocera, the Henry Dreyfus Professor of Energy at MIT and senior author of a paper describing the work in the July 31 issue of Science. “Solar power has always been a limited, far-off solution. Now we can seriously think about solar power as unlimited and soon.”"
      http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/.....-0731.html

Lobby your government to invest that Carbon Tax money into making THAT system a reality, and the savings you will make from never having to pay for electricity again would DWARF any Carbon Tax!

Why “instead”, why not “as well”? GMO’s are no more dangerous than AGW. Both involve man messing with nature’s balance. Seems to me to be rather hypocritical to be against one and not the other.

Karamkze, I see that character assassination is a hobby of yours. This is really a waste of oxygen, your carbon footprint must be increasing every time you jerk-off over this website. In fact, you are so above everyone here that you must be typing your comments with one hand and playing with yourself with the other.

What? Did you put all your investments in the carbon trading investments? Too bad, but people won’t buy it for long.

    17. Stefan Says:

True. We’ve been having 62 degree nights over here since the beginning of August. I bet they’ll start bringing back that fruit Captain Planet soon enough.

And…proof positive that global warming is a scam with all the main points debunked scientifically, yet written so pretty much anyone can understand here.

      “revenue neutral” rofl

How long have you been paying taxes KK?

This carbon tax scheme is only “revenue neutral” on paper.
      [ that's called "the pitch"...]

“But despite the government’s claim that the tax will be revenue-neutral, the real outcome is that low-income families will suffer, said George Heyman, the president of the B.C. Government and Service Employees’ Union. ”

“By the time the carbon tax is fully implemented in 2012, the government will be taking two dollars out of working people’s pockets and low-income families’ pockets for every dollar they (the government) put in,” said Heyman yesterday.”

The carbon tax will also harm small businesses and does not help families, said Maureen Bader with the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

“The notion of it being revenue-neutral is true at a higher level, but when we start to look at how it will affect individuals and businesses, it’s not so neutral,” she said.

“On an individual level, no way can the government match it up. It’s administratively impossible,” Bader said.

Helmut Pastrick, chief economist for the Credit Union Central of B.C., said it was good for individuals and businesses that the government made the new tax revenue-neutral, but he hasn’t worked out the numbers yet to see if that will really be the case.”

KK you cherry picked that article.

“Revenue neutral tax” … nice oxymoron.

Only a moron would believe such a thing.

KK, you must be quite young.
