Judge threatens to penalize Obama lawyers in state secrets, wiretap case

A District court judge is threatening to “sanction” Obama Justice Department lawyers who’ve refused to respond to an order ordering the Department to provide a plan for how the case of a charity caught in a warrantless wiretap should proceed. Reports The Washington Post’s Carrie Johnson:
The Obama administration has invoked the state-secrets privilege in resisting a lawsuit filed by an Oregon charity whose attorneys may have been subjected to warrantless wiretapping. Late Friday, Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn R. Walker issued a terse order that raised the prospect of “sanctions” for government lawyers who have not responded to his order for a plan for how the case should proceed. The sanctions may include awarding monetary damages to the charity, the al-Haramain Islamic Foundation.
The Justice Department must respond by Friday.
“The Haramain case is one of the national security battles left over from George W. Bush’s presidency,” notes Johnson. “Civil liberties groups and left-leaning members of Congress have used the matter to argue that Obama’s approach as president conflicts with his campaign promises of transparency.”
Obama demurs. He says his administration is reviewing the practice under which state secrets claims are made.
Last Thursday, he said his administration was “nearing completion of a thorough review” of how state secrets claims are applied and averred that his Justice Department would apply a stricter legal test of when such claims would be made.

“We must not protect information merely because it reveals the violation of a law or embarrasses the government,” Obama remarked.
It’s unclear, however, just what those tests will be. The administration has invoked state secrets in two major areas: preventing documents in cases regarding terrorist suspects from being released, and stopping defense lawyers from gaining access to information collected by the National Security Agency’s warrantless wiretapping program.
In a the case involving the terrorist suspect and his “extraordinary rendition,” an appeals court struck down the government’s use of the state secrets claim.
Adds Johnson:
In the Haramain case, officials at the National Security Agency have determined that attorneys for the charity, who mistakenly received documents reflecting that they may have been the subject of government eavesdropping, do not have a “need to know” about the electronic surveillance program.
That has set Justice Department lawyers who are defending the NSA on a collision course with Walker. Both sides in the case must appear before the judge in San Francisco on June 3 to explain their positions and discuss ways to proceed.

I remember watching on youtube about the secret seccion that congress held in 08. How it said that the newly elected president will blame congress for passing a bill that brought the ruin of the U.S currency. You know, I was watching cspan early this year and seen barak obama blame congress for passing the bailout bill. i know it was early this year,right after he took office. has anyone seen that? it was just like the video on youtube said was going to happen. So I guess that the financial collapse of the U.S dollar will be broadcast some time next month. Again like it said in a video on youtube. Start buying more gold and silver,plenty of food and water along with a fire arm nearby your bed. Cause it’s coming next month. How much will my gold and silver be worth then? I’m guessing it will be worth so much money that even a tenth ounce of silver will not be able to buy a loaf of bread becaus no store or supermarket wil have change for your purchase. I’m sire glad that i bought heirloom seeds a few weeks ago and have stocked up on pleny of canned and dried foods with gallons upon gallons of drinking water. all I have to do is start building my own solar panels so that I will have electricity in my home.

If they didn’t revolt under the lawless regime of George II – or any other president, for that matter – what makes you think they would react differently now?
Obama’s citizenship was affirmed by the same agencies as every president prior to him.
If you didn’t demand to see “vault copies” of anyone else that has held the office, it seems pretty racist to do so now.

This issue is not racist in motivation its a matter of law! many other candidates were challenged and they had to show their birth certificate during the qualification process. Obama did not and has not yet under several demands to do so. So don’t try and make it racist because you have no argument of legitimacy regarding this issue!!!!!!!!!

Did you know that,I’m not sure,they passed a bill that will allow barak obama to keep his birth certificate private. that alone proves he isn’t eligible to be president of the United States. You’re right – Judges & Lawyers could have absolutely NO political motivation, always tell the truth, and never act improperly.
Again, his birth in the US was certified through the exact same process as every other president before him.
Do you doubt that they were Americans too?
If not, then why?
The obvious answer is that they were white & had what you consider to be “American” sounding names.

If someone one day ever saw a monkey with red hat begin to tell you the news and one day you noticed that these monkies with red hats were all throughout the media on a global basis, in banking, in the judicial system, in congress, in the senate, in hollywood, in the military, in science and in medicine and everywhere you looked there these monkies reside, and refused to acknowledge that the monkies have an evil agenda of their own and have collectively lied, manipulated, and decieved the masses one would have to be the dumbest idiot and moron not to acknowledge the fact that no matter what laws are passed or what corrupt system these monkies put in place our real factual problem is the monkey with the red hat. Ignoring the root of our social and political problems is truly hindered because we refuse to admit that it is the monkies that are the problem. Well this is exactly what Alex Jones does. When Alex Jones openly states what evil the monkies are doing, but refuses to call the monkey a monkey because it would offend the monkey. I would contend that you are ignoring the root cause of all of our problems. If you cannot call a monkey a monkey and if you cannot acknowledge that the monkey has an evil agenda then all you are doing is hoping for the best while you ignore the root cause of the evil we see all around us. Shame on you inability to acknowledge that their is a group that fits this description and Alex’s reluctance to be as honest with that fact does nothing but assist the monkey to be ignored while the evil is attacked and unleashed without effecting the root cause.
