Justice Dept. wants UBS customer names

The Justice Department said it will insist on ”information on a significant number” of UBS customers in any settlement between the U.S. and Swiss governments over a high-stakes, bank-secrecy dispute.

On Sunday, the United States government and Swiss banking giant UBS jointly asked to postpone a hearing slated to begin Monday in Miami to allow the U.S. and Swiss governments more time to resolve a dispute over whether the bank should be required to turn over the names of 52,000 clients with secret offshore bank accounts.

Attorneys still plan to appear in federal court Monday before Judge Alan S. Gold, who is handling the case about whether to enforce a civil summons from the Internal Revenue Service seeking the UBS customer information. The judge didn’t immediately issue an order on postponing the hearing, although judges typically approve such joint requests.

The IRS has justified its demand for the information based in part on UBS’s admission that it helped American clients set up accounts offshore to dodge income taxes.

   The are the disease of this country. I don’t care about this. I hope the do whatever the hell they want. They kiss other countries like a bowing bunch of slaves. Who the hell cares. Why doesn’t all of your Justices around the country write and fire every UN worker, the Sec gen, , why doesn’t your own Justices fight for their own country. Why dont they right to geneva and charge the NIH

   Don’t care about your overseas money Ameirca. Just call Switzeraland Bank, I am sure they will be glad to send some to your local church so you can beg for it.

   UBS should ask the US customers voluntary communicate with the Justice Dept. to be handled their cases individually. It’s not a bank’s job to check the tax payments of the customers. The bank would send the notice of the assets annually. The rest is up to the customers to handle the tax issue with the accountant.

   Banks were not blamed in Enron problem, but the accountant did. Same for the UBS problem.

   UBS Warburg? There was a Warburg present at the creation of the Federal Reserve, and the Warburgs own shares in the private Federal Reserve Corp. It must be great to print your own money.

   I hope they go under, or, turn over all of their U.S. customers.
