Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), who has figured prominently in recent political news for his attempts to begin impeachment hearings against President George W. Bush, today announced that the congressional subcommittee he chairs will look into reports of peace groups being surveilled by police and private investigators.
“[M]ost people would be upset to know that police were spying on lawful citizens and infiltrating peaceful organizations, rather than chasing down real criminals,” said Kucinich in a press release delivered to RAW STORY. “At a minimum, such police spying is clearly a waste of taxpayer dollars and a diversion from the mission of protecting and serving the people.
“I want the subcommittee to determine how widespread these activities are and who ordered them,” the Ohio Democrat and former presidential candidate said.
(Article continues below)
Kucinich chairs the House Domestic Policy Subcommittee of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
The press release referred to reports that Maryland state police officers infiltrated peace and anti-death penalty groups and that private investigators working on behalf of “several large corporations” had surveilled environmental groups.
Such surveillance is apparently not limited to law enforcement and private investigators. In January 2007, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) released a report showing “widespread Pentagon surveillance of peace activists.”

What is really ironic is that it was our own government’s CIA in the Sixties that started all the protest groups. Prior to that, no one ever saw a picket sign. It was unheard of.We were so civilized and not angry and splintered like today! The plan in the Sixties was to turn black against white, men against women, homosexuals against “straight” people, and we even had angry old people..the Grey Panthers! The goal was to breakdown the family structure and conventional Christianity and the civilization we knew and cherished and separate us from each other for all time, making it easy to conquor us in the decades that followed. Now the cops are surveilling peaceful protest groups because such groups are seen as the ones who would protest against the government when martial law comes down, as it surely will. I always felt, even as a teen in the Sixties, that something was terribly wrong, when the catch phrase was that America was a “sick society” (after JFK’s murder). We lost pride in our country and in ourselves. The protest movements and Viet Nam followed, and here we are…a country on the verge of total destruction. Like Barry McGuire sang in 1965, we are surely and most emphatically on the Eve of Destruction.

True mar, these hypocrites will have there day. They stay hidden behind there false flag B.S. and bring us fear. True fear comes from there feelings that there are a sew patriots left and they are not fooled and will not lay down and play dead.

I still say Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich would have been a great combo for the White House.

“…private investigators working on behalf of “several large corporations” had surveilled environmental groups.”
Private security forces. No Oaths to uphold. No mandate to protect the People. Wave of the Future. Mercenaries.
The dazzling red dress uniforms of the Coca-Cola Expansionary Forces are rather spiffy tho…

I am so pissed off about this I don’t know what to say. How the hell can anyone tag peace protestors as potential terrorists? I am so sick of this s--- I think we should all just arm up and get ready to defend the Constitution they so obviously hate. And if you don’t want to get shot, then stay the f--- out of the way.

Support Dennis Kucinich folks. He’s at http://kucinich.us/ Yes thePatriot, he and Dr. Paul would have made a perfect team in the White House, but to make that dream possible, we need to keep both men in office and not let them fade

Everytime I see what kucinich is doing now, it just makes me glad that I did vote for him in the Michigan Primary. The Corporate control of America has to be undone. In fact this whole Law structure needs to be undone. It is a law, of the rich, for the rich, and by the rich. That is why having someone in the House or the Senate is so important. We can try to use their own laws against the elite.

“I still say Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich would have been a great combo for the White House.”
I agree, but the masses have spoken, they prefer tyranny and oppression. So much for freedom and liberty for all.

Disarmament, with mutual honor and confidence, is a continuing imperative.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.

Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels – men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, may we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion.

dont they have anything better to do?
oh wait they had John Lennon and Gahndi on their watch list right?
For some reason the powers that be are threatened by peace.
The general public needs to understand that the Peace groups are for Peace. To be investigated for promoting peace is one of the most ridiculous things ever.
Peace.

peace and disarmament are against all that they hold dear, they should watch them, to learn how to combat it with new lies, decent, fear mongering and pointing of fingers. The “let us do anything to protect your from terrorism” excuse seems to be wearing thin…

Maybe there’s a protect you from women and children’s manual. ::shakes head:: Lots of dogs out there, you see.
What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight – it’s the size of the fight in the dog.

No wonder crime is rampant when valuable manpower is spent chasing non criminals. This enables the real possible terrorist to simply do as they please undetected. It also opens up this country to security vulnerability because the main focus is not on terrorists, but using the terrorist card to go after people that have a legal right to gov oversight and express views.
Since there are not any terrorists to speak of in the US, they have all these unjustified targets now to claim more money for more manpower, weapons and toys to keep them busy and perpetuate a needless tactic in order to justify their jobs as what I regard as legal domestic terrorists. This is how out of control things are.
