Leaked torture photos published in 2006 went largely unseen (GRAPHIC)

A little over three years ago, SBS Dateline, an Australian television program, released leaked photographs from the U.S. prison in Iraq, Abu Ghraib.
It is believed that the pictures being held back by the Obama administration may include some of these shots that most of the US press ignored, although RAW STORY ran them in 2006.
After the posting of the photos, the ACLU released the following statement exclusive to RAW STORY.
“We continue to see undeniable evidence that abuse and torture has been widespread and systematic, yet high level government officials have not been held accountable for creating the policies that led to these atrocities,” said Anthony D. Romero, Executive Director of the ACLU. “We need to look up the chain of military command, because when the rule of law is not followed all of our personal freedoms are threatened. President Bush should appoint an independent counsel to uncover the full truth about the extent of the abuse and who is ultimately responsible.”
An article in the Guardian said, at the time, that “there were reports today that the US government was trying to prevent the new images being broadcast in the US.”
Earlier today, The Daily Mail ran a story about the 2006 photos which incorrectly claimed that they were first broadcast last night. Before the article was edited, today’s Daily Mail included the photo of the man hanging naked upside down seen below, and which, at this moment, is displayed at the Drudge Report under the headline “OZ TV AIRS NEW TORTURE PHOTOS.”
Today’s Telegraph incorrectly reports, “The images emerged from Australia yesterday where they were originally obtained by the channel SBS in 2006 in the wake of the Abu Ghraib scandal. They were not distributed around the world at the time but are now believed to be among those the president is trying to block.”

It’s unknown if any American television network has posted any of these photos in the last three years.
Disclaimer: The photographs follow, and are very graphic. They are only part of myriad unpublished photographs and what are believed to be six videotapes of the torture of prisoners at Abu Ghraib.

Whether the US gov’t did it, Mossad, or another force did it, the likely hood that Al Qeada accomplished the 9/11 attack by itself is low. The buildings imploded symetrically, this could not be accomplished without well placed explosives.

I find it interesting that President Obama does not want these photos released with the justification being that if the “public” sees them, we would be putting our troops in danger from terrorists overseas. That is laughable, considering these photos have already been posted across the world, everywhere EXCEPT HERE! The so-called “terrorists” have already seen them. The truth of the matter is that if the public in our very own US os A see these photos, Obama will HAVE to push for prosecution of the previous administration because the American public will be OUTRAGED at how sadistic and cruel the torture truly is. I went through worse than what is depicted here to get into my fraternity! Much “worse” to get through basic training. Most of this isn’t torture, just pictures out of context. Show me the video where they cut off one of the prisoner’s heads with a kitchen knife and I will express outrage. Oh, wait, that’s what the prisoners did to get sent to Gitmo!
Discomfort and nudity, while not pleasant, do not rise to the level of torture in my book. (Those ghastly pink sheets in the 5th photo come close.) Certainly not compared to what they are doing to us. It might be easy to forget, but we are still at war, and the lives of OUR children and OUR loved ones depend on us getting the information that these animals have in their heads. Bring out the catipillars! No torture here.

No one gets information out of torture. Especially when it has to be done more than 1 or 2 times. All they ever get are false confessions, which is what the military wants. Good forensic and circumstantial evidence can always lead you to the real culprit, and the scene of the crime before any evidence can do. Nothing can be gained from grunts on the ground.

I watched a documentary about these particular photos on On Demand with Comcast the other day. It explains all of them and yes, some of it are very disgusting practices. There are those dealing with discomfort, though, which do fall under a term of legal, more humane forms of torture. Such as being naked and tied to your cell bars and so on. The guy standing on the box was TOLD the wires on his fingers were electrified and they would shock him if he falls off the box — this is classified as a legal practice as well. The others are, yes, war crimes — and at no time was anyone higher than a Staff Sergeant depicted even in the “hidden” photos. That Staff Sergeant is currently serving I believe somewhere between 30-50 years — while his commanding officers all go scott free.
Anyhow — they can’t be trying to contain them that hard if there are documentaries on it already published and being shown on Comcast.

These people had no part in 9/11, which was one staged (meaning demolition). Two, most of the hijackers were arab (how come we don’t go after Saudi Arabia or Yemen?). And three, if they are alqaeda/ extremist, it is only because we bombed the country to death so much that it made a good example for them to be easily recruited by our enemies. I do not want to think that they NEED to do the things they do, but I do enjoy living the life of an out of work United States citizen (without health care [and don't want it from the Government]) who believes in a better world. That is what the UNITED States is about; freedom to believe the things we want, with (what should be) some basic guidelines and common sense.
The United States is not Christian, nor Muslim; White, nor black; English (U.S.) speaking, nor Spanish; Rich, nor poor, etc. etc. We are (as the people who came from another country know) ALL OF THE ABOVE.
We owe it to future generations and ourselves to be the first to the table when it comes to mending, and building, relationships.

Recent headlines are full of stories about torture. Writers
seem to be surprised that torture was being used on
detainees suspected of being involved in terrorist activity.
This is nothing new. Torture has been going on since
recorded history. Spartacus, Jesus, and millions of others
rebels were tortured. It was done as punishment to break
their wills before murdering them. This practiced should be
stopped. Nobody but Sadistic monsters benefit from it.
Some are saying that that the recent torture of detainees
was used to gather information that was useful in
protecting the nation. But there has been no proof that a
single bit of that information was useful. There have been
other reasons for torturing hundreds of detainees. New
evidence is surfacing that false confessions were used to
give a valid reason for the invasion of Iraq. There is a wide
spread investigation now going on to get at the truth. It is
feared that the answer will be that it was done for the joy of
the Sadists in power. This should come as no surprise.
Sadism is the norm in most areas of life and it is found
most often in wartime. Many join the military for the
opportunity to express themselves.
The Sadist is feared most by prisoners because he wants
more than information or a confession. He wants to torture
his victims until there is no resistance or cries of pain. This
might take many months. But once his victims becomes
silent and do not scream in agony the Sadist loses interest.
The prisoners becomes useless and the monster looks for
healthy replacements. Those that were water boarded over
one hundred times until silenced were the healthiest of the
victims. It took many months to obtain their silence. They
were broken, rehabilitated, and could go free.
School yard bullies graduate into the big time when they
gain a position of power in the workplace. A sadistic boss
can make the lives of his employees miserable by
constantly threatening to fire them. But unfortunately some
bullies get absolute power when given the job of torturing
prisoners of war. Their first job is to make sure their
victims are well fed and kept healthy. This gives them the
opportunity to interrogate them endlessly. Confessions of
guilt do not end the torture. The sadist stays with his victim
until there is no resistance. A broken prisoner is of no use
to the grown up school yard bully

I don’t understand most of these comments. These photos are in IRAQ.. and there was NO connection between Iraq and Al Qaeda prior to 9/11. Saddam Hussein was no friend to extremist Islam and Iraq was no haven for terrorism. In fact, the funding and people that were responsible for 9/11 were mostly Saudi – a supposed staunch (oil rich) ally of the US.
However, once the Americans invaded Iraq in an unjust war founded on lies made up by the Bush/Cheney administration – Iraq attracted Islamist fighters from across the region. They are fighting to rid Iraq of American invaders. The American military is torturing to save their own soliders – who have no legal or moral right to be in Iraq in the first place.
Many more innocent Iraqis have died in this war than ever died in 9/11… but again, there is NO CONNECTION to 9/11 – except what was manufactured by Bush/Cheney.

Ok we are at war with these people and most of them were directly involved with 9/11, this looks bad in hindsight but they are responsible for thousands of dead Americans and thousands of broken families. They got information about an attack on the Brooklyn Bridge which was investigated and prevented they found explosives, infiltration plans, escape plans, and funds in a man’s apartment. They also prevented an attack on LAX. When it comes to saving American lives I don’t care if we are chopping these extremists’ fingers off and shoving them up their nostrils as long as it gets results. This pre-9/11 mentality that my country has is naiive and ignorant, the fact that these pictures got leaked angers me beyond belief because now we have more of a reason to be hated by everyone and our troops are in more danger than ever as well as all of our citizens.

Why would anyone take pictures of ongoing torture unless it was for personal use. These people are a festuring sore on this nation. Publishing these photos is not what will makes or breaks the case, it is the act of turture itself, how can you claim to be freedome defender and criticise others when you do the same act of violence just under different name and different excuses? May be someone should ask this question: If the US justifys torture as a way to defending itslef against terror, then it is logic that the accused tortured people have their justifications for their hostility against the US, and if you want someone to listen to your justifications and give you a chance to defend your acts, then it is fair too to listen to the other side and try to understand why he is acting against you too!
