Legal immigrant patriot voices passionate opposition to gun control at public hearing, says it ‘doesn’t work’

Possessing a more thorough and cogent understanding of American history than many native-born Americans today, a legal immigrant by the name of Henson Ong recently voiced passionate and well-versed opposition to gun control at a public hearing on “gun violence prevention” in Hartford, Connecticut, which is located less than a one hour’s drive from the town of Newtown. During his speech, Ong, whose second language is English, reminded his listeners and the council about the importance of civilian gun ownership for preventing crime and government tyranny, declaring plainly that gun control “doesn’t work.”

Video footage of the ardent speech, which recently went viral on YouTube (http://youtu.be/NyYYgLzF6zU), shows a calm, collected, and highly-informed Ong explaining to his audience how America’s founding fathers intended for the Second Amendment to protect American citizens against the same type of encroaching government powers that are right now trying to steal this freedom under the guise of deterring gun violence. Ong also used his vocal platform to educate his listeners about America’s rich gun history, and how societal decay, not guns themselves, is responsible for escalating gun violence today.

“Your own history is replete with high school rifle teams, Boy Scout marksmanship merit badges. You could buy rifles at hardware stores, you could order them … your country was awash in readily available firearms and ammunition, and yet in your past you did not have mass school shootings,” explained Ong to his listeners during the hearing. “What changed? It was not that the availability of guns suddenly exploded or increased, it actually was decreased. What changed was societal decay.”

As of this writing, the original YouTube video clip of Ong’s speech has logged more than 433,000 views, and will likely gain many more by the time this article is published. And it rightly should, as Ong’s powerful words of wisdom reflect a proper understanding of responsible gun ownership and its importance in deterring authoritarianism, a concept that has been largely lost among many segments of the population today. History has shown time and time again that without a well-armed populace, nations eventually fall into the hands of corrupt and evil dictators, which is exactly what is happening today in the U.S.

“The prospect of tyranny may not grab the headlines the way vivid stories of gun crime usually do. But few saw the Third Reich coming until it was too late,” said Judge Alex Kozinski in his famous dissent of the 2002 case Silveira v. Lockye, which Ong also referenced in his closing statements. “The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed only for those exceptionally rare circumstances when all other rights have failed. A free people can only afford to make this mistake once.”
