Aside from the plagiarism, the reason this approach to liberty won’t work is because it fails to take into account the fundamental nature of man, which is sin. Ayn Rand was a staunch athiest, and despite her brilliance, she never did understand that man is essentially evil and not essentially good. Both she, and her plagiaristic cousin from this essay, both expect that men will act good and decently if left to themselves. But history tells us otherwise. And God also spells it out in the Bible. Left to himself mankind will kill the last fish for sport. He will chop down the last tree to make the last table. And he will pollute the last breath of fresh air just so he won’t have to pay the cost of installing a filter on his power plant. We are a short sighted and greedy bunch, we humans. Personal freedom is a good and moral thing. But there has to be a regulatory system over industry or else we will simply pollute ourselves into extinction.

Anyone who would badmouth the TSA who are only there to help us and make sure we have a safe trip, must be unpatriotic! No bag of peanuts and a plastic cup of soda for you.

The problem is that many if not most within the so-called “liberty movement” have bought into the underlying, unspoken and ridiculously false premise that, if you don’t worship at the feet of the Austrian School, then are you — by definition — one who opposes “liberty.”

Nothing could be further from the truth.

@idontwantliberty – you can’t have total freedom unless you are a colony of one and have no interaction with any other human being with an opposing agenda. period. if you’re going to exist in a social environment you have to exist by a social contract.
