Lousiana Lawmaker Faults Media For Focusing Attention On His Eugenics Proposal

Louisiana State Rep. John LaBruzzo (R) recently stirred controversy by advocating a form of eugenics to decrease the number of poor. “I realized that all these people were in Louisiana’s care and what a massive financial responsibility that is to the state,” he said. “I said, ‘I wonder if it might be a good idea to pay some of these people to get sterilized.’” His plan would also give tax incentives to the rich to encourage procreation.

Appearing on CNN today, LaBruzzo defended his proposal by arguing that “the taxpayers of America are kind of getting fed up” with supporting welfare programs. He cited the “totally reliant” residents who relied on government evacuations during Hurricane Katrina. When CNN’s Kyra Phillips asked why he couldn’t invest in education and poverty-reduction programs, LaBruzzo faulted the media for focusing too much attention on his eugenics program:

Every one of the ideas you brought up were talked about in the brainstorming session. Obviously the media thought this was the one they could get some ratings out of. We talked about getting involved in the community. … We talked about a lot of those issues. This is one that the media grabbed hold of because it gets ratings.

He also blamed the “tremendous influx of illegal aliens” for “bringing down the economy even more.” Watch it:

But this week, LaBruzzo explicitly ruled out more common sense solutions. “LaBruzzo said other, mainstream strategies for attacking poverty, such as education reforms and programs informing people about family planning issues, have repeatedly failed to solve the problem,” the Times-Picayune reported.

LaBruzzo seems to be dead serious about implementing the plan. He “gathering statistics” now and is planning to introduce legislation “if he finds that the number of people on welfare has increased” over the past decades.

What a sick bastard. He refers to those in need as “these people.” Go screw yourself, rich bastard. Welfare is a necessary safety net, and people have value in themselves. They have no right to complain when the money is actually spent to help people in need, and not Wall Street pigs.

The ultra-rich continue to be the biggest recipients of welfare…of course it’s under a different name…perhaps we should sterlize them…oh, and all people who enter politics. We don’t want any more Bushs. That goes for those two flake Bush daughters.

I propose that anyone who promotes eugenics be immediately sterilized. Hell, maybe we should sterilize all the politicians, overpaid CEO’s, and such.

Why should I control my reproductive abilities, and pay for other’s lack there of?!
Welfare was intended for emergency relief, Not permanent free ride. I have seen and known women get pregnant, just for the free ride… Those values are passed on.. to endless useless children…. prove me wrong.

welfare is only 3% of our total liablities. If we enforce the integrity of the purpose of welfare(short term) than we could greatly reduce this already small percentage of people. As a mater of fact, if we did what some of the euros do(welfare for married families only) than we can avoid the sex for sport and retirement plan that people have created out of it here in the USA. YEp, unless your in a marrriage where your being abused, YOU suffer your own bad choices in europe, rather than everyone else suffering for you. Now there’s another thought huh?

I like what Jedi1 said. Good idea.
Even though I disagree with this politician, I also agree with Adam in that a couple should only have a child/children if they can afford it. Sadly, most people lack common sense and have kids just for the fun of it. I live in a county with one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the nation. The culture down here is sick. Teens have kids and then often dump the kids on their own parents. Grandparents raising their grandkids.
