Merck pressing for OK to market Gardasil for males

After more than two years of selling the Gardasil vaccine as a way of protecting girls and young women against cervical cancer, Merck is asking federal drug regulators to allow the vaccine’s use in boys and men between the ages of 9 and 26.
The drugmaker is counting on the expanded use to boost sales of Gardasil, which have flattened after a quick start. Getting that boost, however, may prove difficult.
After two years on the market, Gardasil’s side effects have made some pediatricians more reluctant to recommend it for their youngest patients. And despite the vaccine’s early, soaring revenue — it reached sales of $1.4 billion in its first year — Merck has yet to capture a huge share of its primary market: young women, including college students.

The vaccine could be an even harder sell for boys.
One of the big reasons to vaccinate males is to stop the spread of the human papillomavirus, a sexually transmitted disease often referred to simply as HPV. But that may not prove as compelling a sales pitch as one that touts a vaccine as a protection against cancer.
“Boys don’t get cervical cancer,” said C. Anthony Butler, an analyst with Barclays Capital in New York City, “so parents could be reluctant to provide them with the vaccine.
“We want better health, but we don’t want to do what’s required to get it,” Butler said. “It’s a Catch-22.”
Merck submitted an application to federal drug regulators last month requesting approval to begin selling Gardasil to boys as a protection against HPV-caused genital lesions. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expected to decide later this year whether Merck’s application meets its standards.
Gardasil was originally approved by the FDA in 2006 as a vaccine to protect girls and young women against four strains of HPV — known as 6, 11, 16 and 18. Health officials have blamed the latter two strains for causing an estimated 10,000 new cases of cervical cancer each year.
Yet from the beginning, the vaccine proved to be controversial, partly because of the sexual nature of the virus and partly because of Merck’s focus on girls as young as 9. Compounding matters was the company’s aggressive lobbying efforts to get state governments to include Gardasil as part of mandatory school-immunization programs.

I guess they are capitalizing on their vaccine legal immunity.
You do know that vaccine makers have legal immunity whereby if they kill your child they cannot be sued. And this does happen.
That tells me that there is something very wrong with vaccines in general. Avoid them.

What they are really doing is infecting people with the next strain of AIDS.
Just like The Hepatitis B Vaccine program administered to only gay populations in San Francisco and New York back in 1978.
One year later exactly is when the FIRST cases of HIV were ever reported in the US in both San Francisco and New York!

Merck has been the chemical/biological weapons contractor for the U S since day one, nearly a hundred years. the vaccination program is an extension of the chemical/biological warfare. Hitler would be so impressed.

This all just makes me ill. This nasty vaccine has killed or maimed young girls for life and now they want to put this poison in sons too? What the heck is wrong with these morons? Never , never take any vaccine from Merck, they are evil!!.

This is part of their population reduction program. It starts with a vaccine that put markers on the reproductive cells, then later on, they add the trigger in water and bam… infertility on a grand scale.

This is ridiculous! They are only trying to make up for lost profits. If something is not broke you do not force to fix it. I will fight this till the very end. If that means I go to jail because I choose to not vaccinate my child with this poison then so be it! Get ready MERCK because I now have nothing to lose.

Polysorbate 80, boric acid,the aluminum adjuvants together with the natrium chloride(salt)

do not believe Merck, they have changed the diagnosis of cervical cancer, they use junk

the questionable “benefits”. Of course some of these losers for $4500.00 they will praise

My daughter, Victoria Ventimiglia, has been having seizures since March 31, 2008. Doctors seem to believe that my daughter’s seizures are stress induced and will not relate them to Gardasil.
Here is some history. I will be as brief as possible. My daughter had her first Gardasil vaccination November 2007. Her second vaccination was in the beginning of February 2008. Immediately after her second vaccination, Victoria experienced severe diarrhea and was nauseous for about eight weeks. She had blood work done many times and doctors thought she had a virus. On March 31, 2008, she had her first seizure. After several emergency room visits, she was diagnosed with conversion disorder. My daughter has treated with many neurologists, all of whom will not relate my daughter’s seizures to Gardasil. Meanwhile, there quite a few hundred people that I have found over the internet through my numerous postings and through Erin Brockovich, and their daughters are all experiencing the same symptoms, which occurred after the Gardasil vaccination. My daughter has had CT scans, MRI’s, MRA’s, EEG’s, blood work and was hospitalized at an epilepsy center in the video EEG monitoring unit two separate weeks in May 2008 and September 2008. She was put on many different seizure medications. After the normal EEG results, she was taken off all medications. Her SED rate has been high and she did have protein in her urine, but doctors do not seem concerned.
Doctors recommended that my daughter treat with a psychiatrist and I complied. However, the psychiatrist did not believe that my daughter had conversion disorder. My daughter has seen several neurologists, a psychiatrist, psychologist, several neuropsychologists, an immunologist, several infectious disease doctors, and also treated a wellness center. Wellness Center physicians believe that my daughter may have lyme disease. Infectious disease doctors differ and believe that the lab that the center used was not reputable and CDC approved. Lyme test done through Quest was normal. Wellness Center physicians believe that blood should be taken at least ten times until a positive result is received. My daughter received a positive result after the second blood test. Does my daughter have lyme —- I have no idea????
My daughter currently experiences fhe following: seizures, migraines, fainting, tremors, twitches, numbness, staring or blank episodes, tingling, eye pain, joint pain, neck pain , memory loss, confusion, brain fog, regression and chronic fatigue . She has not been in school since September 2008 — she should be a senior in high school. Her teachers helped her to complete her junior year by sending work home. My daughter can never be left home alone. She can’t go to school, go out with her friends or work or has little “normalcy” in her life.
I do not know which way to turn for help. We have seen so many doctors and I can’t seem to find anyone willing to help my daughter except for one psychologist, who “talks” to her to try to work through her stress. I continue to take my daughter to the psychologist although I do not believe that my daughter’s symptoms are stress related. There are so many other girls who have the same symptoms as my daughter and the one thing all the girls seem to have in common is the Gardasil vaccination.
We are on a fixed income and I have expended many thousands of dollars in an effort to seek medical opinions and assistance. Although we do have medical insurance, it is very difficult to find doctors willing to treat my daughter who will accept our HMO. Also, there are no doctors who will relate my daughter’s symptoms to Gardasil as I am told “there is not enough information available” and doctors believe it to be “safe”.
We are in desperate need of medical treatment for my daughter. I have run out of ideas, finances have dwindled and I do not know which direction to turn.
