Ok. Now this is creepy. I happen to live in Mexico and am reading 1984 for the first time, started last week. I must say this book reads like it was written only yesterday.
I have been living in Mexico now for almost 2 years. I own a nice HD flatscreen tv but refuse to connect it to an antenna or cable because I feel Mexican television only serves to drain peoples IQ. I genuinely feel insulted by the programs the dare transmit as I feel they are insulting peoples intellect by producing such garbage. The tv’s here are on all the time and are everywhere, restaurants, shops, markets, offices, etc. and remind me of an early version of the 1984 telescreens. I mean an early version because it is only a one-way mechanism as it does not contain a camera and microphone as does the telescreen but it is similar as it is used to numb down the people and spread propoganda.
In 1984 people are scared to do anything because everyone is watching everybody else, this is also true in Mexico but has to do with religion. People are very religious, or so they make believe. I think most people are not actually religious but are affraid to say so because they will be outcast. Everybody criticizes everybody else and they are always judging one another. “He who is without sin shall throw the first stone” does not apply.
The war on drugs is being used to get people used to the idea of army presence in the streets. Just two weeks ago there was a shooting due to a police raid and the army was used to block of the city. I feel this has nothing to do with drugs dealers but everything to do with control of the people.
I believe Calderon has already read 1984, knows it by heart. I also believe the US is using Mexico as a proving ground for tactics and strategies which will then be implemented in the US once they have been proven to work.

You might also want to check a great movie ‘V for Vendetta’
The solutions proposed are mostly fantasy, but it is very accurate when describing fascism and looking at how people just go along mindlessly without protest.
I wish the Queen and Calderon could both have a session or two in room 101, but now I am back to fantasy.

They should have given a copy to Obama too. With all the cameras on the streets in jolly old England they have acheived a high level of “Big Brother”. These “leaders” from around the world are scum!

Too bad Hitler never managed to burn ALL the books. Maybe 1984 would have never been written.

“Apparently the President admires and greatly desires to enact and enforce the totalitarian society that George Orwell envisions,” would be a completely accurate translation.
Ray, For us proles, George Orwell had the inside scoop, but the global planning phases were going on long, long before Orwell was born. I’m almost certain they “allowed” him to publish it, as a taste “of things to come.”

Just a reply to MexicoIsOk
I have to agree with you completely, the war on drugs especially
Another good book to read is Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
These are not works of fiction but by plans the elite had for the world back then
Also Ray 1984 was written in 1950
You can definately see the Brave New World model here in America

actually george orwell simply observed the trends and saw where the world was going, atleast on his island. But for him to be considered one of the elite? please! He fought in the trenchs of the spanish civil war on the side of anti-stalinist POUM militia, he was a socialist, but of the libertarian sort. Read Homage to Catalonia about his experience almost getting killed the fascists and the by the authoritarian communists

Plenty of Land Mass that is uninhabited. For Example Canada has only 10 percent the population of the US
and by no means is the US overcrowded, there is plenty of open space all over the place. So the question really is land management. If you went back and gave people 40 acres to survive on… do you think this country would
thrive again?
Bet your future it would thrive so fast the government would be replaced with natural living once again. The shortage is a percieved emptyness to get you to surrender to the fact they want you to give up and die.

The style of writing is quite familiar to me. Have you written guest posts for other blogs?

I can tell that this is not the first time you write about the topic. Why have you decided to touch it again?
