They may be talking funny money, but it’s not funny business.
Residents from the Milwaukee neighborhoods of Riverwest and East Side are scheduled to meet Wednesday to discuss printing their own money. The idea is that the local cash could be used at neighborhood stores and businesses, thus encouraging local spending. The result, supporters hope, would be a bustling local economy, even as the rest of the nation deals with a recession.
“You have all these people who have local currency, and they’re going to spend it at local stores,” said Sura Faraj, a community organizer who is helping spearhead the plan. “They can’t spend it at the Wal-Mart or the Home Depot, but they can spend it at their local hardware store or their local grocery store.”
It’s not a new concept—experts estimate there are at least 2,000 local currencies all over the world—but it is a practice that tends to burgeon during economic downturns. During the Great Depression, scores of communities relied on their own currencies.

good for them, i wonder “when” the backlash will occur from the big brother
December 5th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
I think this is a great idea. I may even have to look at trying to start something like this in my home town.
December 5th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
how does this work please explain it to us
i want to know what backing this local currency has
or is it just more paper

It’s the only way to sustain independence and it’s the best way to serve the Constitution. Let the New World Order Fascist Federalist entomb themselves. Let that pirate eye of Horus maintain it’s temples and 501c3 churches with it’s pershing principle. If they try to use military force to prevent this, just stand fast, do no harm and stop working. It’s time to stop providing labor for the NWO delusion and it’s time to reject the paper it prints. The key to the prison gate is, do not enter.

that is one of the best ideas i have seen-that would really screw the bankers-lets see them survive without leaching the people-turn the tables on those bastards-

I expect to see a lot more of this during the coming depression. Treasury might object somewhat, but then they’ll need all the help they can get printing money as I’m sure the Mint won’t be able to print it themselves fast enough.
What will likely happen is they will all get put into FEMA camps for violating barter, legal tender laws and price control laws. -all these will be features of our depression.

Awesome people! Let the truth spread far and wide. Take these matters into your own hands and rely on yourselves…not the federal reserve! The fed has made us slaves to their fake monopoly money since 1913! Let freedom ring! We can barter for goods, print our own currency and stick it to the banksters! Keep informing yourselves about everything out there about the history of central banks and the founding fathers view points on money and standing armies.

How do they pay for the goods that they sell in the local market? It won’t be with their currency that’s for sure!!! LOL This won’t work.
December 5th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
The government might see this as seccession from the union, they better watch out!
December 5th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
I was wrong this could work if:
A: The prices are fair on goods.
B: The government doesn’t kill you off!

If they are willing to protect themselves from the Fed buy literally fighting of the BATF, SWAT, IRS, FBI, MARSHALS, and every other abc group, then they will be ok.
And by protect themselves, i mean with force of arms – because that is what the Fed will bring at all hours.
Otherwise they will find themselves in a dark hole.
But its still a good idea.

What these people should do is a lot of studying on our monetary system and the code books. There was a group called the Montana Freemen who did this. They read lots of the books and found loop holes. Eventually they understood the system enough to make their own money backed by them. If they owed the IRS $10,000 they would write them a check for $100,000 of their money to send to the IRS. The IRS then sends them back a check valued in US dollars for the remaining $90,000. They are in prison now though for finding and exploiting loop holes that weren’t meant for them. If this does work out I might make the hour drive from Madison to Milwaukee to be part of it. We will have to be prepared to defend ourselves fiercely though as some in these comments have already stated.

This has been done and it does work – communities can print their own currency! Check out this example from across the pond.

there is a community in the northeast that has barter money based on an hour of work. and an hour of work at the last time i heard of their system was about $10 an hour. they took their money to the local stores and could buy things with their hourly wage dollars. there are other groups using silver as a base to back up their own printed money.
December 6th, 2008 at 9:30 am
the Montana freeman were not printing their own money. they were trying to use “warrants” they called them to cash, as the banks do in fractional banking. they were not authorized to use the same system the banks use to create money, etc.

WAHHH!!!! THIS WON’T WORK…FIGHTING.. FORCE OF ARMS…ONLY IF.. WAHHHH!!! UNCLE SAM HELP, I THOUGHT ABOUT TAKING A RISK AND IT SCARED ME, I’M SO GLAD I CAN IGNORE MY COMMUNITY AND NOT ROCK THE BOAT. I’M SO GLAD I HAVE YOU UNCLE SAM, SO GLAD NOTHING WILL CHANGE FOR ME AND IT WILL STAY THE SAME, STAY THE WAY THAT BROUGHT ME TO PRISONPLANET, STAY THE WAY THAT I DESPISE AND COMPLAIN ABOUT. WAIT A SEC, I’M HERE CAUSE I HATE THE STATE OF THINGS, I FORGOT. DIDN’T I JUST BITCH ABOUT THE DOLLAR YESTERDAY? UMM…. MAYBE I SHOULD ACTUALLY GOOGLE THIS, NO… DUMB, I’LL JUST KEEP ASKING HOW DOES IT WORK, HOW DOES IT WORK RIGHT HERE, BUT I HARDLY EVER GET RESULTS, DAMMIT!! TODAY IS THE DAY!!! CARPE GOOGLE DIEM!!! I’M GONNA GOOGLE THIS LOCAL BARTER SYSTEM, AND THEN I’M GONNA GOOGLE THE LIBERTY DOLLAR AND THEN I’LL SEE THAT THEY ARE ALREADY DOING IT WHILE I SAY “ONLY IF” AND “NO” AND “I’LL BE HOLDING MY ANTIBUCKS IN MY COLD DEAD HAND AFTER THEY SHOOT MY FAMILY OVER IT”
thanks to all the people who ignored the kneejerk reaction to hide or attack. i wondered how some could see this as a bad thing at all. i am surprised there are people here that don’t know about the liberty dollars struggle OR THE LIBERTY DOLLAR AT ALL!!!!

CRABS IN A BUCKET
did you know that fisherman using live crabs as bait put them in an open bucket. they sit beside it never worrying if the crabs will form a small pyramid and escape to the freedom the can see and smell. the don’t have to worry because the crabs don’t excape. a few here and there try to escape but they can’t. not because of any action on the fisherman sitting beside it. it’s because the other crabs will actually grab and pull down the escaping crab.

It’s true, there is a community in Mass. I think that’s making it work and has been for some time now. I remember seeing it on the mainstream news once ( wow! can you believe that? ) and I remember screaming and just about wizzing myself and dragging my ex out of the bathroom and planting her square in front of the T.V. and making her listen with half her make-up on. Although I agree, if you guys want to start this BE PREPARED! Nothing pisses those ABC’s off more than this kind of thing. I’ve always advocated supporting local businesses, particularly the S.L.O.B. program; that’s Support Locally Owned Businesses. If enough communities get on this it’s gonna snowball. And if FEMA wants to incarcerate an entire town for this beautiful idea in freedom, let them! Because no sooner will THEY lock the gate than they turn around to face the onslaught of a Revolution! So do it!

Its called “bartering”. The only reason they are using the monopoly money is so that things can be traded more efficiently through the local community’s perceived value of merchandise. It will only work in tight-knit communities, because outside the local community, the monopoly money has no value.
