Sailors and Marines along the beach at Mayport began moving the crowd away from the water Saturday afternoon as the amphibious assault vehicles approached across the waves.
“Everybody back up!” a sailor shouted. “Keep backing up. Now move back just a little more.”
Moments later, the vehicles – looking like the offspring of a submarine and a tank – burst through the surf, surging forward as their treads bit into the sand.
The hydraulic brakes slammed into action, and the rear of the vehicles opened, disgorging more than 100 troops from eight countries.

“Left, go left!” shouted a U.S. Marine. “Shape up over there!”
Overhead, a brace of helicopters rented the sky.
The assault on the beach at Mayport Naval Station was part of the Marine’s Partnership of the Americas exercise, held in conjunction with the Navy’s Unitas exercise.
“It’s really a learning environment for everybody,” said Col. Jay Huston, commanding officer of the task force doing the exercise.
During the past week, the troops – Marines from the U.S. and six countries in Central and South America, as well as soldiers from Canada – worked together at Camp Blanding, fast-roping out of helicopters, firing weapons and sharing tactics.
They jelled quickly.

Extreme prejudice is an understatement, There will be NO PRISONERS TAKEN!!! IF you fire on American citizens and you are in the United States of America’s armed forces. they are getting the people use to it when it really happens and they start arresting us…why didn’t the local government know about this and why wasn’t it broadcasted to the locals..to stay off the beach..if they have an army that is fueled by people who have no loyally to our country..especially latin americans who for the majority are basically poor..bringing them over to the united states to control us.. we are basically screwed…why are they training them on american soil…?? kinda like red dawn isn’t it..

I truly don’t understand the need for us to pay to train foreign troops.
This is an example of waste when people here are unemployed and getting thrown out of their homes, and not being helped at all compared to the bankers!

I believe our fearless leaders think that foreign troops will be more likely to fire upon US citizens more readily than will US troops. They are probably right, but I think Katrina demonstrates how willing the goons are to crack a few skulls.

MARINE, you obviously know your history and fully understand what the military is for. i hope the majority of military personnel are like you. i hope they know the constitution and defend it, not our “leaders,” should the time come. but, i’m afraid that most people nowadays join the military to “kick ass,” and know nothing of history or the constitution they swore to defend. maybe you can help me out with this. you were there, so you would know more about them than i do. please tell me most marines think like you, but only tell me that if it’s true. you have my respect and my indebtedness. this is coming from a peace loving hippy musician who isn’t one bit afraid to dive in the trenches with you to defend freedom, but not just to defend some bozo presidents war for profit. enough americans have died for that reason.

Oh take a chill pill you guys. It was an exercise on the beach of a military installation not out on a public beach. Naval Station Mayport has a beach out in front of officer housing, the people they were movong out of the way were Navy dependents comedown to the beach to play. Better the U.S. military training these banana republics than the Russians, at least we instill respect for the CIVILIAN CONTROL OF THE MILITARY. I have been a part to training former soviet republics in U.S. methods, it is the best way to ensure the military of that government is friendly toward us. They freakin love us after we come in and train them. We feed and house them during the training, make sure their government pays them (which doesn’t always happen when we are not around). They gain pride and new skills and most importantly first hand contact with the best and brightest young Americans. So calm the F@%^ down.
