“In a startling revelation by Times Now, [a] terrorist who was caught alive had confessed to investigating agencies that they had a plan to blow up the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai. Times Now spoke to officials who are investigating the sole surviving terrorist, identified as 21-year-old Azam Amir Kasav.

“Kasav, according to sources said that their plans were to carry out a JW Marriot-like attack on the Taj and [Oberoi] Trident Hotel. This was in reference to the recent attack on the Marriot Hotel in Islamabad. ‘They wanted to reduce the Taj and Hotel Trident, symbol of India’s strength and prosperity to rubble. They planned on bringing down the buildings similar to the 9/11 attacks.’ The terrorists had enough explosives to blow up the Taj hotel, Kasav reportedly told investigators.

“In a sense to destroy the symbol of financial strength of the country and send shock-waves all across the globe, the terrorists wanted to do a 9/11 in India. The above revelation came from the 21 year old Azam Amir Kasav, who hails from tehsil Gipalpura in Pakistan’s Faridkot.”

The Times of India said: “Kasav has told police that they were sent with a specific mission of targeting Israelis to avenge atrocities on Palestinians. This was why they targetted Nariman House, a complex meant for Israelis. Sources said Kasab’s colleagues killed in the operation had stayed in Nariman House earlier.

” ‘They have stayed in Nariman house on rental basis identifying themselves as Malaysian students,’ said a source. Police are trying to find out how Nariman House rooms were given to non-Jews. Police has taken all the records books of for verification. The second target was the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station because casualties would be high.

“Crime branch has also recovered several fake identity and credit cards from the belongings of dead terrorists. ‘All the cards are in different names and of different banks. Now we are at least trying to figure out how they procured credit cards from various banks.’ said Maria. The recovery of so many cards with different names have led Mumbai police to suspect the involvement of ISI [Pakistan's intelligence service].”

The New York Times reported: “Apprehensive about potential reprisals by India over the Mumbai terrorist attacks, the Pakistani government insisted Saturday that it had not been involved. It pledged to take action against Pakistan-based militants if they were found to be implicated.

” ‘Our hands are clean,’ the Pakistani foreign minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, said at a news conference. ‘Any entity or group involved in the ghastly act, the Pakistan government will proceed against it.’

“The government called a crisis cabinet meeting on Saturday, a day after Indian officials suggested that a militant group with Pakistani ties, Lashkar-e-Taiba, was responsible for the attacks. Similar accusations after an attack on the Indian Parliament by another group, Jaish-e-Muhammad, brought the two governments to the brink of war in 2002.

“But while the civilian leaders, including President Asif Ali Zardari, called for calm on Saturday, Pakistani security officials warned that they were preparing to move troops toward the border if need be. The security officials, speaking at a press briefing in which the ground rules prohibited identifying them by name, said that if the situation worsened, troops stationed in western Pakistan could be moved within 72 hours. ‘We’re ready for any contingency,’ one security official said.”
