Since there is a consensus — from Washington to New Delhi through London — that every trrorist act anywhere in the world must have a Pakistani connection, it was only natural for America to look for that in the shoe terrorism in Baghdad.
I hear that the Pentagon is already on the job. I expect it to make the following findings: The shoes that flew themselves into history at the Bush press conference had links with Pakistan. Muntadar Al-Zeidi had visited that country earlier this year. There he was inspired by the sight of people throwing shoes at the then chief minister of Sindh, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, and the then federal minister for parliamentary affairs, Sher Afghan Niazi. He also received training in shoe throwing by a group of Pakistan-based jihadi cobblers’ organization. The DNA sample of the leather of Muntadar’s shoe has revealed that the animal whose skin was used for making the shoe had traces of grass that grows in
the north of Pakistan. The skin was collected by a jihadi organization on Eid Al-Adha earlier this month.
Learning of such “concrete evidence,” President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani have decided to ban the cobblers’ organization and launched a countrywide crackdown on all cobblers in Pakistan. It was also decided at a Cabinet meeting that the cobblers would now have to register themselves with the government of Pakistan and obtain licenses to practice their trade.

The Washington Post today reported in an editorial called “Fallout from Mumbai” by Jim Hoagland that: “Three days before the Mumbai atrocities, Zardari [Pakistan PM, husband of Benazir Bhutto] disbanded the political wing of the military’s notorious Inter-Services Intelligence agency, a conduit for support to Kashmiri, Afghan and other terror networks.”

Could these attacks be meant to put pressure on Zardari to stay out of I.S.I. business? At this stage it’s too early to be able to say with certainty what the motive was. But regarding Pres. Barack O’Bilderberg and his belligerence toward Pakistan, he’s talking through his hat; the U.S. thankfully doesn’t have anywhere near the military power to be able to invade Pakistan. It’s stretched to the limit. Air power can’t do everything though they wish it could. Look at Afghanistan. The Taliban controls territory ringing the capital and the U.S. is so militarily weak and impotent it is unable to even TRY to eject them from these areas. So the Mumbai attacks being somehow a pretext for a U.S. invasion of Pakistan doesn’t seem to be militarily a realistic possibility.
