Muslims fear backlash in wake of Fort Hood massacre

American Islamic groups braced themselves for a public backlash against the faith on Thursday after it was revealed that the alleged shooter in the Fort Hood massacre has a Muslim name.
Soon after Pentagon officials named one of the shooters at the Fort Hood facility as Nidal Malik Hasan, groups rallied to condemn an act President Barack Obama had earlier described as a “horrific outburst of violence.”
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, the largest Muslim group in the country, appealed for calm in the wake of the killing spree that left 12 people dead and 31 wounded.
“We ask for calm in this situation, and we fear for a backlash against American Muslims in light of previous unfortunate incidents that were linked to Muslims,” Nihad Awad, the group’s executive director, told the Associated Press.
“Although the attacker has a Muslim name, that does not mean there is any religious justification for” his actions, Awad continued, adding that “any faith, any ideology is vulnerable to claims by some deranged individuals … for their irrational and criminal behavior.”
Awad said CAIR condemned the Thursday shooting “in the strongest possible terms,” and “our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this attack, and our sincere condolences to the families of those who were killed.”
The debate over whether the alleged shooter was motivated by religion or ideology has already begun.
On Fox News Thursday evening, host Shepard Smith said that the alleged shooter’s name “tells us a lot” about the incident, though he did not elaborate. Notably, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) agreed with Smith’s assertion.
CAIR released a statement Thursday evening, in which it urged “American Muslims, and those who may be perceived to be Muslim, to take appropriate precautions to protect themselves, their families and their religious institutions from possible backlash.”
Qaseem Ali Uqdah, who was a Marine for 21 years before becoming the executive director at the American Muslim Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Council, now fears a “witch hunt” like that which followed September 11, 2001.
“This is a criminal act and we have to treat it like a criminal act, not something to do with religion” he told Agence France-Presse.
For the estimated 3,500 Muslims in the US armed forces, Uqdah said there could be some fallout from the attack.
“What we don’t need is people downrange sitting in foxholes (in Afghanistan or Iraq) questioning if you are a Christian, if you are a Muslim or if you are a Jew … that is not what we need as a nation.
“We need to fight the war on terror together,” he added.
In a Pew survey published last September, 38 percent of respondents said that Islam encouraged violence more than other religions.
Fifty-eight percent said there was a lot of discrimination against Muslims in the United States.

Resolving the Cognitive Dissonance of Islam

The negative spiritual and intellectual consequence of believing two mutually exclusive concepts is “cognitive dissonance.” Our interaction as a society with Islam is a direct cause of “cognitive dissonance” for us as individuals and as a culture.
Resolution of the contradiction requires the rejection of one of the concepts as false. If we continue to ignore our cognitive dissonance about Islam the consequences are dire: we will lose our civilization.
Islam is much more than a religion; it is a complete civilization that includes politics (caliphate), jurisprudence (Sharia law), war (jihad), and a deliberately misleading “religion of peace.” The doctrine of Islam is found in three books: Koran (the literal word of Allah as “revealed” to Mohammed), Sira (Mohammad’s biography), and Hadith (stories about and sayings of Mohammed by contemporaries). The definitive text of Sharia law is “Reliance of the Traveller.” Allah and Mohammed are to be obeyed, not questioned. “Islam” means “submission;” a Muslim is “one who submits.” “Islam” does not mean “peace.”
Say: Obey Allah and the Apostle; but if they turn back, then surely Allah does not love the unbelievers. (Koran,3:32)
O you who believe! Obey Allah and His Apostle and do not turn back from Him while you hear. (Koran, 8:20)
O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil). (Koran, 9:123)
The purpose of the Islamic doctrine is the destruction of all cultures that are not Islamic and expansion of Islam until the entire world is under Islamic rule and Sharia law.
O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the hypocrites, and be hard against them; and their abode is hell; and evil is the resort. (Koran, 66:9)

Previously revealed religions were valid in their own eras, as is attested to by many verses of the Holy Koran, but were abrogated by the universal message of Islam as is equally attested to by many verses of the Koran.
…It is unbelief (kufr) to hold that the remnant cults now bearing the names of formerly valid religions, such as “Christianity” or “Judaism,” are acceptable to Allah Most High after He has sent the final Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) to the entire world. Our national cognitive dissonance began immediately after 9/11 when President George Bush visited the Islamic Center of Washington on September 17, 2001, and said, “Islam is peace.” President Obama has reiterated this misperception of Islam specifically in his recent speech of apology in Cairo to the “Muslim World.”
The contradiction of Islam upon which our cognitive dissonance is based is this: Islam is benevolent and peaceful, and Islam is violent and hostile. Both positions cannot be true.
Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued. (Koran:9:29)
You will find others who desire that they should be safe from you and secure from their own people; as often as they are sent back to the mischief they get thrown into it headlong; therefore if they do not withdraw from you, and (do not) offer you peace and restrain their hands, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them; and against these We have given you a clear authority. (Koran, 4:91)
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah ’s Apostle said, “I have been ordered to fight with the people till they say, ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah,’ and whoever says, ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah,’ his life and property will be saved by me except for Islamic law, and his accounts will be with Allah, (either to punish him or to forgive him.)” (Bukhari, Hadith, Volume 4, Book 52, Number 196)
The majority of the doctrine of Islam is about how Muslims are to interact with non-Muslims; it is essentially about – us. Statistical analysis of the doctrine of Islam by Dr. Bill Warner of the Center for the Study of Political Islam is enlightening:
* 62% of Koran is devoted to how Islam interacts with the kafir (the unbeliever).
* 98% of the Sira is devoted to the struggle against kafirs. (70% is jihad; 28% is argument and insults.)
* 20% of Bukhari Hadith is devoted to jihad.
The evidence to resolve our societal cognitive dissonance about Islam is readily available and painfully obvious.
Lo! those who disbelieve, among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters, will abide in fire of hell. They are the worst of created beings. (Koran, 98:6)
Islamist mass murderers and terrorists/jihadists are not “hijackers of Islam,” they are not “misunderstanders” of Islam; they are the devout followers of a political ideology that is hostile to our existence because we are not Muslims.
We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve, because they set up with Allah that for which He has sent down no authority, and their abode is the fire, and evil is the abode of the unjust. (Koran, 3:151)
Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due (jizya tax), then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. (Koran, 9:5)
The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) which is under a cloud of suspicion (see “Muslim Mafia” by P. David Gaubatz and Paul Sperry) has been the leading espouser of Islamic “understanding” in America. CAIR’s mission statement that it is “to be a leading advocate for justice and mutual understanding” is not, according to their founder, their true purpose.
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Khosrau will be ruined, and there will be no Khosrau after him, and Caesar will surely be ruined and there will be no Caesar after him, and you will spend their treasures in Allah’s Cause.” He called, ‘War is deceit’. (Bukhari, Hadith, Volume 4, Book 52, Number 267)
CAIR’s founder, Omar Ahmad, said in 1998 that “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran . . . should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.” (San Ramon, CA., Valley Herald, 7/04/1998.)
So obey not the disbelievers, but strive against them herewith with a great endeavour. (Koran, 25:52)
If our culture and society are to survive we must accept the truth of the world and of Islam though it is not what we would prefer.
Warfare is ordained for you, though it is hateful unto you; but it may happen that ye hate a thing which is good for you, and it may happen that ye love a thing which is bad for you. Allah knoweth, ye know not. (Koran, 2:216)
Our cognitive dissonance will be resolved only with honesty and knowledge. Islam is not a “religion of peace.” If we are unsuccessful in resolving the cognitive dissonance which results from our confused view of Islam we will lose our civilization.

Actually paganism…is a term used to describe the religions that do not derive from the interpetations dead sea scrolls. Hence any religion that is not christian,Muslim or Jewish is by defintion Pagan.
Deism is slightly different then what you state. Like, paganism, it not a term of a specific belief but a term used to distinguish a certain set of ideals and beliefs from the others i.e. agnostic. Those beliefs can be fairly different from eachother. The main common thing is, that they believe in a creator (or watchmaker) but reject the notion of divine interventions in human affairs. About Tefillin
Tefillin are two black leather cubes (boxes) that are worn by many Jewish men while at morning prayer. One of the cubes is called “Shel Rosh” and is placed on the forehead. The second is termed “Shel Yad”, and is worn on the upper left arm. The cubes have long straps of leather attached to it which enable the man to wrap the tefillin on his head and arm. The straps of the Shel Yad are wound seven times down the arm and three times down the middle finger. Within the cubes are four sections of the Bible written on parchment paper. These sections declare the existence and unity of God and recall the liberation from Egypt. Once a man has had his Bar Mitzvah, he may wear the Tefillin during weekday prayers. Tefillin are not worn on the Sabbath (day of rest) nor on the Jewish holidays. The putting on of tefillin is like a ceremony in itself, for as the man puts on his tefillin, he recites a prayer. The use of tefillin stems from the Biblical commandment: “And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes” (Deut. 6:8). Today some women are reclaiming tefillin as part of their Jewish ritual.
Without a doubt tefillin are the most complex of the scribes activities, not in the writing but in the construction of the batim (housings) themselves which have to be perfectly square and take enormous efforts and craftsmanship.
They vary in quality, in the way they are made, and in their halakhic desirability. On the market today there are four types:
Peshutim (Simple Ones) – These are made using several pieces of parchment to form the inner walls of the head tefillin, glued within a slit square to divide it into the four required compartments. If the inserts are glued incorrectly then these batim are not kosher for use. The parshiyot inside commercially bought peshutim are generally of very poor quality, and often not valid for use.
Peshutim Mehudarim (Superior Simple Ones) – These make the box of the tefillin out of a single piece as required. They are typically made with 32 mm sides to the boxes, which are quite small. However, goat skin is used to form lighter weight batim, which when finished look almost identical to the more expensive cowhide type, but they are not as durable.
Dakkot (Thin Ones) – These are made by stretching a thin layer of parchment over a structural base similar to the peshutim. This outer parchment forms the entire box of the tefillin, including the inner as well as the outer walls and also the base, which is halachically desirable. Its thinness, though, means that the tefillin can become halachically invalid relatively easily if knocked or through normal wear and tear.
Gassot (Thick Ones) – These are made entirely out of a single piece of thick leather (usually with inserts to ensure they close flat). This requires the repeated use of several tons of pressure in industrial presses as part of a complicated but delicate production plan. The resulting batim are so durable and thick that they can be renewed even if seriously damaged and they typically last a lifetime. Gassot are made with boxes varying in size from about 20 mm per side to over 40 mm, though sides of 31-36 mm are considered standard. The pictures on this page show Gassot being made from a single piece of skin.
The choicest cow-hide is used from the cheeks and the neck where it is the thickest. Thus only one pair of tefillin is produced for each head of cattle. After undergoing a softening process the leather is cut to the size needed and left to dry slowly in the open air for at least three months. The box shapes are then formed through the appliance of considerable pressure and gradually the shape we are familar with starts to appear in the skin.
Each titura (cube), averaging 35 square millimeters in size, is sanded, squared perfectly, painted jet black with paint made from only kasher ingredients and measured, as many as twelve times. A lacquer finish provides wear resistant protection and a fine, faultless appearance which must be completely square or they are invalid for use.
On the head tefillin two shins, one with four heads protude. Once the parchments are placed inside in the specified manner, involving wrapping them in pieces of parchment and tying them loosely with calf’s hair. The batim are sewn shut with giddin (sinew) from a kosher animal with one of the calf’s hairs visible outside.
Finally, the leather retsu’ot (straps) which are black on one side and left plain are pushed through the ma’avarta (channel) and knotted according to the Ashkenazi or Sephardi custom.
