Steven Mikulan , who writes a blog for L.A. Weekly, owned by the “Clear Channel” of alt-weeklies, New Times Media, tells his readers in the city on fire that Alex Jones’ Obama Joker contest is all about left versus right.

“This month radio show wingnut Alex Jones sponsored a contest in which listeners were encouraged to be videotaped putting up versions of the posters on public property,” writes Mikulan. “Jones’ Prison Planet blog declares, ‘Obama is a front man for a cartel of fascists, monopoly men, and determined eugenicists. This is not about black or white, left or right, it is about OUR FREEDOMS!’”
Mikulan — who apparently cannot tell the difference between a blog and a news website — informs us that “Any time someone like Jones says an issue is not about black or white, left or right, you can rest assured it’s exactly about those issues. And about the freedom to write in upper case letters with exclamation points.”
Funny guy, that Mikulan. But we wonder if this is his opinion or that of his overlords at New Times Media, a corporation fond of forcing noncompetition agreements on alternative weeklies. Competition, after all, is a sin for the monopoly men. Mikulan and his fellow scribes are treading on thin ice. It wasn’t that long ago that New Times Media conducted a purge at the Village Voice and fired constitutional icon Nat Hentoff along with music critic Robert Christgau and other long-time staffers. Hentoff in particular was apparently a bad fit for New Times Media and its plan to “mainstream” — render harmless and suitable for corporate advertising — the once bohemian standard bearer.
Mikulan may not get it — the Obama Joker poster, capitalization notwithstanding — is about freedom in a world increasingly gobbled up by monopoly men intolerant of dissenting views.
In order to keep the message rolling along — much to the chagrin of the establishment, including the alt-weeklies — Infowars is offering another Obama Joker poster, this one designed by Jason Bermas. Jason’s poster states the obvious — well, for some of us, those who do not take orders from corporate headquarters — the joke’s on us. That joke is a president who was installed by the CIA and takes his marching orders from the bankers.
No capitalization is required to get the message across.
