The father of the Times Square bomb suspect has said he is not aware of any links between his son and the Taliban or al-Qaeda.
Faisal Shahzad, 30, has been charged over the attempted car bomb attack in New York last Saturday. Meanwhile, the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Air Vice-Marshal Baharul Haq, Shahzad’s father and a retired Pakistani Air Force commander, said he was not aware of any links with terror groups. “This is at least what I know,” he said, to the Sun newspaper.
“We are liberal people.”
He added: “How can I appeal for his release if he is really involved in the terror plan? I need to see what happens and then I will contact the government. I do not know the truth. But I am not sure he is doing all this.”
