There’s a new bogeyman lurking in the closet, and this one isn’t imaginary. Us. One out of three children aged 6 to 11 fears that Ma Earth won’t exist when they grow up, while more than half—56 percent—worry that the planet will be a blasted heath (or at least a very unpleasant place to live), according to a new survey.

Commissioned by Habitat Heroes and conducted by Opinion Research, the telephone survey polled a national sample of 500 American preteens—250 males and 250 females.

On a sliding scale of anxieties, minority kids have it worst; 75 percent of black children and 65 percent of Hispanic children believe that the planet will be irrevocably damaged by the time they reach adulthood.

Interestingly enough, kids vex over the state of the planet, especially when it came to safe and clean air and water, regardless of any pro-environmental measures on the part of their parents. A staggering 95 percent of the children surveyed said their parents pitched in by recycling, using rechargeable batteries, and conserving water and electricity.

“We commissioned the survey as a result of my own childrens’ experiences with the recent fires in Australia as they expressed much concern for both their safety and the planet’s,” said Sharon Lowe, founder of Habitat Heroes, in a press release. “While it is upsetting to hear how many children in the United States have expressed similar concerns, I am more committed than ever to help educate children around the globe in a way that is not scary to them.”

Fear is the best way to control a population, so if you have a fearfull young population, they will probably be wimps who will obey the politicians like a dog.
Fear the allmigthy and the one who can kill your body AND your soul….

Do you know what “LORD” means in your version of the Bible? it should be in an appendix somewhere. Ever wonder why “LORD” was used as a replacement? The truth will set you free.

You shouldn’t have to fear any lord.

there is no need to fear anything. all religion is myth {with a touch of history}, plain and simple. humanity will eventually outgrow the need for a supreme father figure. we are a young species and religion has served its purpose, however, in time it will diminish like every other ideological paradigm and social structure. nothing lasts forever, religion is not excluded.

      Jeremy Reply:

we shall see if its really a myth, i’ve seen to much and experianced to much to believe its a myth.

      Champion Reply:

Jeremy you’ve seen nothing you mug. The sad thing is you will never get to see just how wrong you really are.

Plenty of people have anecdotal stories, but we still lack true evidence.
With anecdotal “evidence” we could prove pretty much anything.

there seems to be alot of confusion on both sides of the “climate change” argument. one side says its getting colder, the other side says its getting warmer. well, sorry to break it to you all, but both sides are correct. i know it seems ridiculous, but it is true. certain geographical areas are getting warmer, producing more moisture in the atmosphere, the moisture is then precipitated at the polar ice caps in the form of snow, which then thickens the ice in those areas. to create precipitation, you need heat, furthermore, to create ice, you need cold temperatures. closed systems, such as ours, are very complex and strangely paradoxial. the truth is, some parts of the world are GETTING COLDER AND OTHERS ARE GETTING WARMER. might i suggest the book “earth in upheavel” by immanuel velikovsky to anyone interested with really learning about our environment and how it operates.
finally, i would like to say that i commend you all in trying to discover and spread truth, but, when you speak on topics that you know very little about it will eventually be detrimental to your cause. truly inform yourself so you spread the RIGHT information. if there is no educational value to your ideas and thoughts, you are merely spreading propaganda.

I can remember when I was about 8 to 10 which was about 1990-1992. In school we was told things along these lines by our teachers…

by the time 2010 comes round the hole in the Ozone Layer is going to be so big that the heat of the sun will be too intense to even step outside in the summer and high percentages of the population would have skin cancer because of it. Oil and Gas would have completely run out or only very few years left which means we won’t be able to transport food around, you won’t be able to go on holiday.

and I believed them as you do when you are young because they are your teachers and you trust their knowledge.

      BelieveIT Reply:

similar time frame for me… I remember hearing the same things… but dont forget about the rain forests which will be completely gone by the year 2000 and the killer bees taking over the world. Oops

    5. theemiddleone Says:

I was brought up very religious AND fearful…

The Jehovah’s Witnesses teach stark raving lunacy and fear to their people. In a lot of their books they had pictures of the end of days, the battle of Armageddon, and when , as a very young child, I asked why God would do that to anyone I was told because he LOVES you. And If you don’t belief this book then read this other book (which they print) to prove it…They teach you from birth to NOT make friends or relationships outside of the Witness faith. You grow up dysfunctional to the nth degree

I know that a lot of people NEED to believe in a god or creator because they are incapable of understanding the process of evolution/natural selection. And have never shaved their logic with Occums Razor…:0)

      BelieveIT Reply:

      sharpen your razor on this:

Evolution has not ever been proven, but that most mutations are harmful – has.
Seems that if the simplest explanation would be the most likely to be correct, then natural selection/evolution would not be the choice explanation for the unnumbered species of plants and animals on this planet, as we would invariably be left with only the strongest.

Stark raving lunacy and fear is the teaching of an everlasting burning hell. Eternal death is not frighting.

    6. American Says:

Last night, I met up with a guy from Holland that was on vacation in Los Angeles that a friend of mine met on a vacation in Amsterdam. My friend introduced me to him and the three of hung out near (I will call him John the Dutchman) John the Dutchman’s hostel in Hollywood. We ended up going to the Griffith Observatory because its free and we all know travelling is expensive, so we figured we would do something very inexpensive for him. The whole time, my friend and I argued with John the Dutchman regarding foreign policy and politics. He was educated at Virginia Tech University by the way. He had the most globalist opinions about foreign policy I have ever heard in my life!

He actually said the European Union is a great thing, and when I asked him what the people against the European Union are saying, he responded by telling me “the people that are against it just do not understand it”. So when I said, ok, help me understand the European Union then, he said it would take too long to explain it, so of course, I said I have all night, start explaining…he didnt like that very much and refused to oblige me.

This guy was so brainwashed about globalism it wasnt even funny. He said Obama is a great president…AND also said the notion that Americans are trying to hold on to their sovereignty is the biggest problem in bringing the world together to solve global problems!!! I couldn’t believe my ears, I wanted to ring his neck! haha..America is the only hope against the globalist agenda. The Europeans believe everything these terrorists and criminals in government say. America is the last hope to save the world…again. But this time, the hope lies in the American people, not the politicians and military.

Children learn of dangers in all sorts of ways. Responsible parents tell their children to worry about things than can control and ignore those they can’t. Tell them not to put themselves in dangerous positions like trespassing with their friends on construction sites, entering transformer farms, playing on dams or screwing around on trucking and railroad property.

Hell, when I grew up we lived in the shadow of nuclear annihilation. One cannot un-explode and de-radiate the planet. Global Warming CAN be reversed.

When it comes to global warming issues, I’ve always taught my children that saving energy saves money (not the planet) so we can spend more on entertainment.

I think I disagree with just about everyone who’s commented here.
See, as a young person, I am personally just a bit pissed about what the past few generations have done by way of technology. You think if you avoid vaccines you’ll be safe from mercury? Well, you’re drinking and eating it. Spent radioactive material is not being disposed of properly, nor is just about any other kind of toxic waste we are producing. Worst of all, we are producing massive amounts of toxic waste in the production of things we really shouldn’t need, like disposable cups, grocery bags, towels, and tissues; planned obsolescence goods including cars, electronics and just about everything else.
We encourage large, irresponsible corporations to produce disposable items of convenience at great waste. We squandering our monetary wealth and more importantly our time and labor in order to afford a constant supply of these goods, becoming like servants. Our ability to be creative becomes dull, as do our memories, because of all the wasteful conveniences we trade our labor and wealth for.
We are participants, not innocent victims. However, we young ones didn’t create this mess. Nevertheless, we are left to mire in it. I’m not advocating a mentality of helplessness, but can you see how we would be pissed? Worst of all for we young ones, we have a potentially long life to live in this world that is getting progressively more f---ed up socially AND environmentally. Whether or not you believe in man-made climate change there is still an abundance of good-old fashioned pollution: Heavy metals, radioactive waste, toxic pesticides and fertilizers in the food and the water, unsafe pharmaceuticals in the water and our bodies, smog and sludge. These are all being haphazardly left for the next generation. Then there are the extinctions, and the genetic alteration of species, the unintended consequences of which we will also inherit.

Are these scourges (or those of political oppression?) the result of an purposeful conspiracy to weaken and sicken the human race? Or are they the consequences of amoral people acting carelessly and irresponsibly, with self-gratification or vanity in mind; of leaping before looking? Does it matter?!!!!!! The effect is the same.

Some people/groups of people have more power/influence than others, but don’t fool yourselves:

There is no omnipotent illuminati, only a conspiracy of self-replicating greed, hubris and idiocy that lives and breathes independently of the people who serve it. That’s the real devil driving the machine- to all you paranoid androids out there.

      STOP f---ING UP. YES YOU.
