No Room for Info Warriors in YouTube’s Hulu-ized Universe

It comes as no surprise YouTube has pulled the plug on Jason Bermas’ Infowarrior channel. In addition to clips from Jason’s show, the channel served as a replacement for the Alex Jones Channel, pulled earlier this month after the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette allegedly filed a complaint with YouTube in response to Alex Jones showing a computer printout of a page from the newspaper’s website on his show. YouTube considers this a copyright violation, a rather absurd accusation considering Viacom filed suit against Google in March 2007, seeking more than $1 billion in damages for allowing users to upload clips of Viacom’s copyright material.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette incident was merely a pretense. YouTube no longer has any use for Alex Jones and thousands of other users who have contributed to the site and have made it what it is today. In fact, YouTube’s users are basically suckers for Google’s corporate vision of the future and they were shamelessly exploited in order to build the site up over the last few years.
According to Nielsen Online, YouTube is the 5th most popular website in the United States and had over 83 million unique visitors in February. It is estimated that 41% of all US video streams will go through YouTube in 2009 and the site will see 375 million unique viewers worldwide.
Even so, YouTube is a failed business model. It loses millions of dollars a year. In order to realize a profit, YouTube has penned deals with with CBS, Lions Gate, MGM, Disney, ESPN and other corporate leviathans. Last month YouTube announced a partnership with Universal Music to build VEVO, a premium music video website.
“Those overtures have led some observers to question YouTube’s long-term ability to serve both its homegrown community and Hollywood, with its emphasis on professionally produced content and tight copyright controls,” Chris Snyder wrote for Wired last month.
But is not simply the copyright issue. YouTube and its parent Google are in the process of “ghettoizing user-generated clips” and deliberately Hulu-izing the site in order to make it acceptable to its corporate partners. YouTube claims it can and will balance both interests.
Hulu is a YouTube spin-off produced by NBC Universal and Fox Entertainment Group. The Hulu venture was announced in March 2007 with AOL, MSN, Facebook, and Yahoo! as partners. Hulu offers commercial-supported streaming video of TV shows and movies from NBC, Fox and many other networks and studios.
YouTube is in the process of a site redesign that “separates its premium and long-form programming from the user-posted videos that account for most of its activity,” Clickz reported in March. In other words, YouTube plans to ghettoize non-corporate content. In addition, YouTube plans to insert ads in the middle of user videos using new technology called Google TV Ads Online.

So-called “balance” is not in the equation when it comes to the videos of Alex Jones and other truthseekers, however. As radio host Jason Bermas discovered yesterday, YouTube will no longer use flimsy excuses in order to shut down accounts, they will simply — without warning or explanation — delete channels deemed unacceptable to their corporate masters and send terabytes of video content to the memory hole.
YouTube’s new business model is a microcosm of the brave new internet envisioned by corporations and government — not unlike corporate-dominated television, an electronic universe supporting millions of channels but with nothing of significance on. In this universe, there will be no space for democratic discussion untethered and micro-managed by government and mega-corporations.
The Hulu-ization of YouTube represents the beginning of this process. In the not too distant future, government will step in at the behest of corporations and impose regulations designed to domesticate the internet and exclude those who do not tote the company line. Jay Rockefeller’s so-called “cybersecurity” bill (allowing the president to shut down the internet on a whim) and the misnamed “Megan Meier Cyberbullying Prevention Act” represent the beginning of an orchestrated plan to make the internet safe for the ruling elite, government, and transnational corporations.
Jay Rockefeller wasn’t kidding when he said we’d be better off if the internet was never invented — that is to say government and corporations would be better off if an open and democratic internet was suffocated in its infancy.

Alex Jones should start his own free video service like YouTube did at the start. Give it a sexy name and you will see people flooding the gates because people want a free medium to exchange ideas. Just make sure you get a very good server and put it outside of the USA.

I say, instead of free… Alex should CHARGE a monthly fee.
This will cover bandwidth, and this should be a Peer to Peer model, where all videos produced are downloaded, and replicated on the users pc, thus if any one portion of the network would go down, the Peer to Peer component would take over and download / stream the video from another users PC or Mac that was on the net.
This would also make it virtually unstoppable, and drastically reduce Alex’s own bandwidth. Using something like the Limewire Client to post the videos, and giving it a polished Prison Planet and or Infowars skin, using it’s built in chat features, etc.. could be a cool mix and as long as the Peer To Peer networking stuff isn’t outlawed, you’d have multiple streams of streaming data pushing out the Infowar.

Yea but Alex is under the impression its going to cost him more than he can afford and that he HAS to be on youtube. There is one thing he maybe has not considered on that note though, is that youtube started in a very small way and I mean very small, think garage small, by some joes named Chad Hurely and Steve Chen who didnt have alot of money to begin with.
Its actually very possible there Jones and you likely already have everything you need to do it with right there in your studio. You just have to look past your own pessimism towards doing it and quit glorifying a censored site like youtube. Things like youtube, where freedom of speech is involved in the longrun can not only pay for themselves but create a foundation for wealth that you can put fourth towards your truth movement because freedom of speech is so highly valued.. I can already tell you, you already have a community here to support you on your way and help get the word out but your own lack of support for it makes even the mention of it impossible. SO ATLEAST TRY LOOKING INTO IT. which costs you nothing.

Here’s an interesting idea: if every Firefox user installs the “Track Me Not” plugin and makes the plugin use search terms from the Prison Planet RSS feed, you can literally flood (well, up to 10 searches per minute) all major search engines with relevant keywords.
Not only will it protect your privacy by obfuscating your real searches, but you also make sure that the search engine’s archives are filled with truth searches.

Everyone used myspace and as soon as a more functional easier to use site came about like facebook everyone abandoned myspace. youtube has had its day and something else will take its place. they will end up going bankrupt when they just post corporate crap there, nobody is interested in it and will go somewhere where they cant see what they are searching for. if i cant see alex on youtube i will come here, its not that hard a thing to do. i still get my real news and videos just not from youtube

American law, God bless it, recognises the concept of “fair use”. Jones is a journalist – a damned fine one at that – and reproducing copyrighted material for news purposes is expressly allowed by the US Code. The Post-Gazette has no legal right to prevent the printing and reproduction of its stories in the manner lawfully used by Jones. YouTube are selective censors, plain and simple.

Use Firefox. Install the Video Download Helper addon. Choose at least HQ18 resolution. Start filling up your hard drive with video downloads until it’s bulging at the seams. Periodically burn the stuff to dvd to get back the hard drive space.
At least, that’s what I do. I’ve been a total pack rat.

Actually, Youtube can be quite useful for looking up tutorials on how to do just about anything. And it was quite damn nice of the people who uploaded the tutorials to have done so. It saves me time from having to trial-and-error and klutzing my way doing something I don’t know how to do yet.
I even watched a whole tutorial series on making movie FX appliances even though I have no intention of ever doing it myself just because it was so interesting to see another professional at work.
While Youtube certainly has plenty of silly junk, it also has plenty of useful stuff as well. It just depends on what you’re looking for on it.

We should be able to have our own groups and use this technology to communicate by our own terms. Even if were locked from the internet there still needs to be a communication channel for the rest of us. If these people are putting restricting on the internet and our freedoms then why do we not hold them accountable? What is everyone doing to resist these things? alex jones regularly deletes posts on his websites if he decides they do not fall within his (arbitrary and shifting) rules of posting. while i agree that its his website so he can do whatever the hell he wants with it, it doesn’t make sense that he would criticize another private organization for doing the same thing.

You guys in the US are our last hope. We in the 3rd world seems to be under the spell of poverty and most people are being trapped in a cycle of hand-to-mouth cycle of labor. It’s like everyone is so drowned in the need to survive, the difficulty, then the amazing amount of riches being displayed through our local TV stations. It’s like my people here are being drowned in this false hope or dream — whatever.
If you guys just watch Alex, and not do anything, even support him at least, the world is doomed.
I’m quite convinced that the Christ’s message when He said, “if those days were not shortened…” that people will fight this tyrannical world order, and I think you guys in the US have a better chance at stopping this madness.
Sadly, we in the 3rd world will get all the wrath of these deadly plot, insane plot, a plot that in all accounts do not recognize the Christ’s message 2000 years ago.

If they are successful in silencing the internet, someone should invent a system like a blackberry and put all this outlawed stuff from the internet on it. It won’t be internet, so it can’t be closed by the same Washington red tape bills. It would be wildly popular and make tons of money. People will stop using the internet for anything personal and use it instead. Internet II will become a totally business system and not used by the general public at all.
