President Obama nominated federal Appeals Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday, citing her “inspiring life story” and “distinguished career” in his decision.
Sotomayor, 54, would be the first Hispanic on the high court if confirmed. She would succeed Justice David Souter, who is retiring.
The president, in his announcement, said he was looking for a justice with a “common touch and a sense of compassion” as well as experience and depth of knowledge. He said Sotomayor, who grew up in a Bronx housing project and has an extensive judicial background, would come to the Supreme Court bench with more varied experience than anyone currently on the court.
Sotomayor, who said she was “deeply moved” by the president’s decision, called herself an “ordinary person who has been blessed with extraordinary opportunities and experiences.”

“Judge Sotomayor has worked at almost every level of our judicial system, providing her with a depth of experience and breadth of perspective that will be invaluable as a Supreme Court justice,” Obama said.

Great! That’s what we need- ANOTHER judge that makes up law as she goes and has a horrible record! She’s been overturned 80% of the time by the Supreme Court and reprimanded by fellow 2nd Circuit judges. While her personal story is inspiring- she’s forgotten about the freedom that the Constitution and Bill of Rights provided her to pursue her career….I don’t care what sex or nationality she is- Lady Justice is supposed to be blind to factors outside the law- Justices are held to the Constitution and the law as worded, intended and passed by Congress.

Remember, supreme court judges canNOT make up laws! all they do is interpret current laws and enforce them! but the rest you said, i highly agree with! personal opinion should not take part in a decision…. If it does, then technically you are personally afflicted and cannot be apart of the ruleing… but this is far from a perfect and honest world!

hello it.s me lucy in marin county. about the new judge with spanish heritage, like you know that is kool. why shouldnt our guest immigrant workers be represented in the supreme court??? i mean like you know there is about 40 million mexican guest immigrants here and Obma , oh that is kool pres obama, is you know like giving construction jobs for them becasue they like need it more than the white construction workers. This is fair chris, and obama did win so like you know yes we can. change is good and we need change. that constitution thing that abraham lincoln wrote is just old paper and should be changed. and if he was such a great president like why didnt they put his picture on hundred dollar bills instead of just pennies. i bet pres obama will be on the first $100,000 bill will fancy art work on like kool easter egg blue paper. now that is like kool guy. I think everyone deserves a chance. If it is true about her growing up in the bronx perhaps she is a real Justice/Human and not a prepped puppet. Time will tell and when the honeymoon for her is over we will see what side she is on. These members seem to go in blindly and either voice the truth and get fired/resign or they become a part of the team in the battle between government/vs/people. This is very important to Obama, teaming is his way of control. How many so far has he weeded out? Like trying to find the best and brightest, no conscience folks in these positions. I will not name names but some who are still there did not even deserve those positions and everybody knows it. That’s why it took so long to appoint them and some had to decline and some had to be explained away in that Obama charm why he chose them. One guy (the prez) chooses/appoints them? No voting? in such important positions? No wonder he is run amuck with power. Hopefully this new Justice is on the peoples side after she is firmly rooted in her seat. I tell you this government does get more transparent every day. I guess that’s one promise Obama kept.

The NBC nightly news described Sonia Sotomayor’s qualifications for Supreme Court Judge as “she dodged drug dealers bullets in the projects of New York City”. Hey I’m fucking quicker than Remo Williams and the asian guy that trained him to dodge bullets, but I wouldn’t make a very good Supreme Court Judge, cause I fuckin swear to much. I knew O’Bama’s pick would be a woman, I knew she would be of color, but I also thought she would be crippled in a wheelchair and blind as a bat! I guess fucking Helen Keller didn’t have the right skin color, and Opera Winfrey wasn’t retarded enough so he couldn’t pick those two loosers.

Last night the Pandits in CNN were cracking their heads as to how Obama would balance the present deformed state of Judgeges in USA, in that there are 7 men and one woman and one Aferican American, and no Herspanioc, despite huge Hespanic population in USA, thus leaving a huge imbalance.
Obama is simply too sharp for the dummies in USA to fathom. With one appointment he resolved at least two major imbalances and also nominated some one who was first selected by Bush Sr. thereby stopping the GOP guys crying foul. What a stroke of a genious. One has to love it and appreciate the man and mind behind such brelicence.

There is a conspiracy by attorneys to steal everything that
you have and to make you a slave. The members of the bar have bestowed honors, privileges and
immunities upon themselves in direct violation of the very constitutions that they have sworn an oath to
uphold so they can steal with impunity. They have defecated on the principles of law and justice. This
author has personally witnessed them laugh about their “license to steal” when referring to their
membership in the bar. Lawyers have infiltrated and taken control of the legislatures so they can enact
laws for their own unjust enrichment. For the most part, they occupy or control the offices of the executive
branches of the governments of the several states so they can sign the legislative enactments into law. They
absolutely control the judicial branch so they can adjudicate and enforce the laws and divide the spoils
among themselves. They control the banks so they can launder their ill-gotten gains. These zealous
advocates of injustice will strip you of everything of value you have if they are given the least opportunity.
If you hire one to help you out of a scrape with the law, for the most part, you will end up in prison while
your lawyer is sipping margueritas on the beach in Cancun, paid for with your money. Your ex-wife might
even be with him. Only if you have as much money as T. Cullen Davis or O.J. Simpson once did, might
you be able to buy yourself some justice. The justice these two colorful characters bought for themselves
cost them their fortunes, but they evaded imprisonment and possible execution for a price paid in money.
Most people don’t have the financial resources with which to bribe the members of the bar, so they
languish in prison while the lawyers take what little property they had, plus a bonus from the State for their
“services.” When you go into a court accused of a “crime,” and are inclined to hire a lawyer or accept a
court appointed lawyer to help you out, remember that the lawyer is being paid by the STATE and is
licensed by the STATE, the judge is licensed and paid by the STATE, the jury is licensed and paid by the
STATE (they at least have driver licenses, don’t they?), the prosecutor is licensed and paid by the STATE.
If the judge orders a psychological evaluation to determine if you are competent to stand trial, the
psychobabelist is also licensed and paid by the STATE. The cop that accused you and who will testify
against you is licensed and paid by the STATE. If you are tried and sentenced to death, the cleric who
comes to pray for your miserable soul before the execution is licensed and paid by the STATE. The guy
who sticks the needle in your arm for the euthanasia is licensed and paid by the STATE. After they inject
you with poison, the doctor that pronounces you dead is licensed and paid by the STATE. Could there be a
hint of conflict of interest here? If the reader has ever had any experience with the modern criminal
injustice system, the term “contempt of court” has taken on a whole new meaning for him.
The lawyers fill the prisons with people who have injured no one but are convicted of statutory
crimes of a maritime jurisdiction. Prisons are filled with people whose only “crime” was to be in
possession of a substance that they, the lawyers, have declared to be illegal. Good parents are separated
from their children for attempting to discipline them, or because of divorce. Fathers are in prison because
they cannot pay the court ordered child support; it is blatantly imprisonment for debt. People are in prison
for exercising their presumed right to keep and bear arms. People are routinely thrown in jail for nonjailable
traffic offenses and the Supreme Court in Atwater v. City of Lago Vista, #99-1408, (Apr. 24, 2001)
has said it is OK. People are jailed every day for such heinous offenses as not wearing a seat belt or not
paying a “motor vehicle” registration fee. America, the land of the slave and the home of the fee, has more
people in prison and more people on death row than any other country in the world, and new prisons are
being built every day. And in order to keep these new prisons filled beyond capacity, the various lawyercontrolled
legislatures are busy enacting more and more new statutory maritime crimes.
