President Barack Obama said he has decided not to release a photograph of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden’s body, CBS News reported.
Obama made the remark in an interview for the CBS program “60 Minutes” conducted this afternoon. CBS released the comment via Twitter and on its website.
The president’s decision ends a debate within his administration on whether to release an image of the body of bin Laden, who was killed May 2 local time during a U.S. special forces raid on his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
“It’s fair to say it’s a gruesome photograph,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said yesterday. Bin Laden was shot in the head and chest.
