Obama Volunteer Bill Prohibits “Religious Instruction”

Is this the change you really voted for? President Obama has only been in office for two months. Now we have HR 1388. The Bill was sponsored by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) with 37 others. The Bill was introduced to the floor of the House of Representatives where both Republicans and Democrats voted 321-105 in favor. Next it goes to the Senate for a vote and then on to President Obama.
This bill’s title is called “Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education” (GIVE). It forms what some are calling “Obama’s Youth Brigade.” Obama’s plan is require anyone receiving school loans and others to serve at least three months as part of the brigade. His goal is one million youth! This has serious Nazi Germany overtones to it.
The Bill would forbid any student in the brigade to participate in “engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization.” That means no church attendance or witnessing.
Again, is this what America voted for? Here is part of the HR1388 Bill’s wording:
SEC. 1304. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS.
Section 125 (42 U.S.C. 12575) is amended to read as follows:
SEC. 125. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS.
(a) Prohibited Activities- A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities:
(1) Attempting to influence legislation.
(2) Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes.
…
(7) Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization.

Everything I have heard, so far, about these national service laws is bad.
Any bill that removes religion from government functions is at least partially good.
Religion in all of its ridiculous factions should be removed from government.
These Nazi public service laws are stupid for so many reasons. And we should all be opposing them.
But if every single law passed in the US had a clause that reaffirmed the separation of Church and State, we would all be better off.

funny how you want to remove religion from the public square when our founders fought and declared Christianity as the foundation of America.It was taught in schools and professed in public buildings and defended in court[even the Supreme Court].Our own Constitution was created using Biblical laws,Our Form of government[the seperation of powers] was taken from the Bible.Remove our Christian heritage and this country will surely fall and be destroyed….

Yes, you are correct that the Bible is not Christian, because it is the Word of the LORD, and you are correct that it does not belong to the Christians ONLY. Christianity was created with the teachings of the Bible and what it says. It belongs to everyone. With the Bible we have become civilized men and spiritual men, because the Bible gives a set of rules for the people to follow. Such as Honor your Mother and Father, Do Not Kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not covet your neighbor, and such. Do these set of rules belong to the Jews ONLY? No, God gave all of these rules so that we can live in a good moral way. Without the Bible and its teachings, you can only imagine of a world comparative to Hell. With people who do not have a conscience of knowing whether killing is right or not. Keep negative thoughts to yourself, as it will only benefit you.

In it there is nothing that suggests that anyone would HAVE to participate in volunteer services. In fact, the word mandatory appears only twice, the first time in saying that – and you should pay close attention to this, – Funding would not be available to organizations that have mandatory religious learning. Meaning not that people would not be allowed to promote their religion or worship in whatever way they saw fit, but rather that the INCENTIVES toward getting people to volunteer, would not be available to places that make religious learning mandatory… please read the bill before responding negatively. If you think I’m wrong, prove it and prove it to me. Also the second time in which the word mandatory appears is in mentioning mandatory learning programs, and that schools with under a certain percentage of students who do volunteer work would not get the incentives. Now, it also states that students who do over 100 hours of community service, would be eligible or a 500 dollar reward and if considered to be disadvantaged, not over a thousand dollars. This bill is meant to encourage people and organizations to do volunteer work, not make them do it. Research before you believe anything posted on the internet.

Since we will all be eligible to be forced to serve, we will all belong to these organizations involuntarily so that means they just revoked the 1st amendment, right?
Solution: Members of Congress who voted against this unconstitutional bill are required by oath to impeach every member who voted for it. As their oath is to uphold the constitution, it is blatant misconduct to vote for anything that violates it. The minority are thus required to impeach all members of the majority and the military and police are bound by their oaths to enforce it.

By the way God in Quran speaks of Islam, and invites humankind to it.
Humans have diverted from that very true Islam and used parts of “islamic-teachings” resulting in different beliefs.
Muhammed (peace be upon him) has a narration where he tells the Jews will be divided amoun 71 sects, the Christians 72 sects and the muslims 73 sects.
Muhammed (pbuh) further said that the right path is the one that goes according to the Quran and the Sunnah (authentic teachings of the prophet).
Iran uses the name “Islam” in its name, but Iranian belief is Shiasm, not 100% Islam as according to Quran & Sunnah.
Saudi Arabia is a kingdom, Islam doesnt allow “Royalty/Elit” classes nor such rule.

Section 125 is confusing. The question is that intentional on the part of the sponsors of the legislation.
It states “Prohibited Activities- A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities…”
But it is not clear if “participant’ means participating organizations employing the ‘volunteers” or the “volunteers” themselves. If it is the later then this is true enslavement- the government can force you to participate but you can neither engage in spiritual or political warfare to free yourself.
The wishy-washy language leaves far too much latitude to interpretation in the governments favor.

It looks like, to me, any other bill. Obama and Carolyn McCarthy are in the same party, but that doesn’t really implicate him in this.
Maybe articles in the future could explain these connections a little more clearly?

This is a cut and dry issue.
The bill is exercising legitimate spending power by providing funding to college students in exchange for some type of contribution to the community/general welfare.
This bill is not a violation of first freedoms. The fact is, by allowing religious groups to be formed under this bill would qualify as excessive entanglement between religion and government. Anyone who posed the argument that the “founders were religious, blah, blah blah,” is failing to recognize the fact that the founders also created a government that separated church and state. THINK!!!
Why are Americans so paranoid? Hitler Youth?!?!? C’mon, it’s called actually doing more for your community than posting tirades on the internet. If more people took action for what they rant ans rave about on the internet, maybe things would be the way you want them to be.

Note that the bill doesn’t say anything about “while on the clock” as some have figured, no, you are not allowed to do those things… at all, there is no reference to when.
As one reader commented, this is a form of “prohibiting free exercise thereof” which was mentioned in the 1st amendment.
This may be the last U.S. president the world will see. Get out while there is still time.

so college student’s are not free to practice their religion? Basically if you need money for collage you need to choose between your beliefs and education. Wow! It is a violation of your right to religion. Yeah, the government should not endorse a religion; however, they cannot stop people from their religion even if they are helping finanically. Okay, here’s the catch: The way to VOLUNTARILY give up your civil liberties is through contracts. IF you agree to take a hand-out, i.e. government student loan, THEN they can make you a slave. If you are not taking any loans they can’t. It’s as if I told you, “I’ll give you $20 if you go to the store and buy me a sandwich.” You can’t take the $20 and then start bitching, “Jees, you can’t BOSS me to fetch you a sandwich!” Most rights are not TAKEN away, they are GIVEN away. Just like the Income Tax fraud of “voluntary compliance”–fill out the W-4, 1099s, etc. and you are TELLING the government that you ARE subject to their tax and give them PERMISSION to collect it. And then you bitch, “You have no right to take that!” Sure they do…when you sign the contract.

can someone help me out. I heard about this and decided to research it and when I review the text of the bill I can not find anything remotely close to what is described in this article.

when I look up section 1304 it is titled Conforming Repeal Relating to Training and Technical Assistance; Not PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS as listed above… and the banned items… I couldn’t find those either.. The bill appears to be 294 pages long (thank the government for that) so I really don’t feel like reading it… any ideas… ???
