US President Barack Obama will usher in the UN General Assembly in New York City on Tuesday, and in his speech he is expected to warn Iran that the United States will “do what we must” to prevent it acquiring a nuclear weapon.
In his address to the annual gathering of world leaders, Obama will tell Iran there is still time for a diplomatic solution to the row over its nuclear program, but “that time is not unlimited.”
He is also expected to reiterate that Washington will never accept the idea that a nuclear-armed Iran could simply be “contained.”
Obama is expected to stress the United States’ commitment to Israel’s security, but according to White House source, he will stop short of setting any “red line,” as repeatedly demanded by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
