  • Olympics 2008: ‘Ring of steel’ security surrounds Beijing

    Richard Spencer
    London Telegraph
    Wednesday, July 16, 2008

A ring of steel has fallen around Beijing as the authorities pledge to take no chances with Olympic security, whatever the cost to business, workers and day-to-day lives.

Armed police have now been added to the three concentric rings of checkpoints set up on every access road into the city this week to screen vehicles for “suspicious” and dangerous items – and people.

On some of the busiest roads, tailbacks more than a mile long have formed, prompting even government figures to beg officers to be “civilised and convenient” in their approach.

Lorries with non-Beijing licence plates have been banned from the city, stopping vital supplies at the municipal borders near the sixth ring road.

“My business will be paralysed completely,” said Cong Peichao, sales manager for a firm delivering basic factory supplies around the city from manufacturers to the south-east. “But I have to put up with it – after all, the Olympics is a once-in-a-hundred-years occasion.”

Mr Cong was on a side-road near a checkpoint overseeing the transfer of a large load of plastic pallets from an out-of-town lorry to a convoy of smaller trucks hired from Beijing.

The Chi-coms will fill their stadiums with their own people.

BOYCOTT THESE OLYMPIC GAMES. DO NOT WATCH THEM ON TV.
      The Chi-coms are evil bastards.

    2. Professor Tim Says:

Yep, it’s really bad. I’ve got to go through this twice a week and it’s really bad. Getting worse by the day too. The expats in Beijing and for the most part, the citizens can’t wait ’till this is done and over with!

    3. BeRealNow Says:

Oh and guess what else?? They are “manipulating the weather” specially for the Beijing Olympics. HAARP anyone??

I honestly wonder how the media is gonna handle all of the controls the Chinese are starting just to have some games? I wonder if these upcoming Olympics will mirror the 1936 games. Probably will and the public will eat up the controls and absolute lack of freedom so their ’safety and freedom’ can be ensured. I have always disliked the Olympics but I will probably watch to see how the media rejoices the government control and how they could work here. These are sad times.

    5. nikoli Says:

ok china can control the weather….

you see what i find strange is this…

china starts getting tibetan protests just befor olympics….

then they have an erathquake that kill about 70,000….

all this just befor the olympics…. very strange…

now china can modify the weather….. does that sound like a third world country,,, or does that sound like a superpower, that is in the making….

they are doing exreamly well and progressing in technolegy on a rapid pace…. the next 10 years on this planet will be very interesting and i hope everyone will see what will happen…

    6. Joe in CA Says:

They need to build a big huge “ring of steel” around China. As high as space.

China can keep it’s pollution in its own country instead of poisoning the rest of Asia.

    7. Commoner Says:

What is all this intense hated of China about?

If this Olympic is held in Russia, how many of you will say bad things about the games?
China can not control the weather.
If they were able to do, they would get rid of smog in Beijing.

    8. Commoner Says:

      The word was misspelled.
      I ask questions again.

What is all this intense hatred of China about?

If the Olympics are held in Russia, how many of you will say bad things about the games?

    9. Commoner Says:

I am simply doing this here…….

    10. Obongo Says:

I will not watch the games, i think is is crazy to support anything chinese at this point, they are not a democracy, and should not be helped in any way, (i guess too late for boycotting their stuff) they own us.

    11. Aqua Teen Hunger Force Says:

      Hey,
Alex Jones Prison Planet Forum is full of communist trolls masquarading as Moderators, especially the one called ROCK,that are banning people for expressing their opinions!

    12. Commoner Says:

I knew my good questions would never be answered.
I am not a communist. I am just against that stupid thing called racism.

None of you will say bad things about 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic games in Russia even though Russians are the real genuine bona-fide communists and Russia is a a major threat to US.

      I think I know why………
