Schools using ‘Orwellian language’ are turning teenagers into ‘customers’ rather than students, a landmark report says today.
Phrases such as ‘performance indicators’ and ‘curriculum delivery’ are interfering with the enthusiasm teachers have for doing their jobs, the six-year investigation finds.
The Oxford-based Nuffield Review, the most comprehensive study of secondary education in 50 years, said that ‘the words we use shape our thinking’.
(ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW)
And the report said that ‘the Orwellian language (seeping through government documents) of “performance management and control” has come to dominate educational deliberation and planning’.
Teachers are inundated with the language of measurable ‘inputs’ and ‘outputs’, ‘performance indicators’ and ‘audits’, ‘targets’ and ‘curriculum delivery’, ‘customers’ and ‘deliverers’, ‘efficiency gains’ and ‘bottom lines’, it said.
In a damning indictment, the report said that a culture of hitting targets, where ‘cuts in resources are euphemistically called “efficiency gains”‘, has led to ‘the consumer or client’ replacing ‘the learner’.

If we offer ideas will people listen or just dismiss it because they are conditioned into accepting that capitalism is the ONLY system that works?
Besides, why should people be forced to compete for mere survival by taking on shitty jobs that cater to over-privileged idiots that can’t do anything for themselves yet have the audacity to criticize you for something they can’t do themselves? Doesn’t sound like it’s all that fair to me.

You’re absolutely right — capitalism is a fancy way of saying the Law of the Jungle and pays scant regard to the overall welfare of humanity (or any other species, animal or vegetable). A truly civilised society is one which looks after and cares for its least capable members; capitalism does NOT promote this, it oppresses the weak and ruthlessly exploits them for the benefit of a few. It has created wage SLAVES out of the majority. This is NOT a measure of civility it’s BARBARIC and the antithesis of all that we could stand for.

The problem with your challenge is that even capitalism doesn’t work. Man cannot dominate man in a fair way. So long as man is trying to run things, there will be no fairness, only tears, and death, and mourning and outcry and pain. The only government that promises to do away with these things, and has the power to do so, is the government spoken of in Daniel 2:44 and Revelation 21:3,4

Schools had their problems before Common Purpose was formed. It was these problems that started all this political correctness in the first place. Before Common Purpose, they were known as the Loony Left, who did things like ban “Baa Baa Black Sheep” in case it offended ethnic minorities. The same people who banned “Puff the Magic Dragon” because they thought it encouraged drug use. If we didn’t have catchment areas in the first place and if there more but smaller schools, parents in the inner cities would have some say in the quality of their children’s education.

Yes true I think, but it has to be balanced by a sense of nationhood, with identity and social resposibility. If we have Capitalism as a literal are we not endorsing social Darwinism? Maybe it could work in a pure form in a state of nature. Orwells The Road to Wigan Pier gives us an insight into British Capitalism in the 1930’s and its effects on the people. I would also add that we live in a tick box society where real people do not matter but graphs and percentages do. As Mr Orwell might put it. “Tobacco production up, boot production up, Chocolate ration increased to 28 grams, all is well in the second year of the 10th 5 year plan.”

schools were always about conformity and accepting the “status quo”, simply put, a 12 hour indoctrination daycare. Throughout the schools there always has been the infusion of a hive mentality hero worship driven by sports, youre either in with the hive crowd or youre an outcast.
This is a typical darwininan scenario , survival of the fittest. Couple this with ritalin, antidepressants, and any other psychotropic cocktail the doctors can convince you to hop your children up on, and its no wonder theyre “goin buck wild” killing each other in these prison style institutions.
One can learn more about math, geography, computer programming, different languages, science or history in one hour using the INTERNET than you could in 5 years of public school. So, teachers are an open component within a system of restricted content? So what. Does the method of delivery matter much when the content is controlled? Does it matter if one is fed their helping of shit with a fork or a spoon? I think not.
The point “schools never were about teaching” seems to be making is; teaching, and more importantly, learning, is possible outside of the “lost soul” ridden “machine.”

I use to work for a regulatory agency. Management started a “satisfy the customer” campaign. Our question, which was never satisfactorily answered, was who was the customer. Was it the regulated companies? They would prefer not have to bother with permits and the record keeping imposed. Was it the people complaining –- sometimes justifiably and sometimes not — who wanted us to close the company down? A big conflict here as to whom is the customer. Pleasing one would displease the other.

I would have to say that a regulatory agency’s function is for the benefit of the customers of the regulated – the people complaining. But usually “customer” denotes someone paying for a service, so in this case, in these days of massive corruption, most agencies (think FDA) have the regulated as their customers (think big pharma and others)

I gotta be honest, the entire public school system smells of epic fail. I have 3 kids, two of which are in 6th and 4th grade.
In reference to the school lock downs. I recently had my two boys explain to me they had this “lock-down” drill in school. They go in to thier classroom, turn off the light, lock the door, and hide.
A couple things about that.
1. Real terrorists blow things up, locking your classroom door will not be on the agenda because the entire building will implode. They are really teaching the kids to fear “domestic terrorists”, which are really not terrorists at all, they are shooters, murderers, call them whatever you like.
2. They are indoctrinating our children into being afraid, cowering in dark rooms like insects under desks when what we really need to teach them is how NOT to be afraid and how to do something about it.

He watched as his daughter Suzy bounced into the lounge room, her thin cotton nightgown brushing against her thighs. Her skin was rosy from the bath she’d just taken, and her long blonde hair smelled of strawberries as she climbed up onto his lap for her nightly cuddle. He wrapped his arms around her tightly, pulling her close as he buried his face against her neck and nibbled on her shoulder. Suzy giggled loudly and twisted on his lap, the feel of her soft bottom rubbing against the front of his pants making him groan. He placed her sideways across his legs and as his hand moved slowly beneath her nightgown, Suzy parted her thighs like a good girl.
Suzy felt daddy’s fingers move slowly up her inner thigh and her body began tingling. She loved how he softly rubbed his finger along her slit and made her pussy all wet. She blushed and buried her head against daddy’s chest as she remembered how he had told her to call “down there” either a pussy or a cunt. She knew they were bad words, but daddy said she was to use them when it was just the two of them. Her daddy touched her like this every night, and it was her favorite part of her day. She heard her daddy groan as he parted the lips of her pussy with his index finger and rubbed her wetness over her button.
He groaned as he felt how wet she was already. God, she was becoming such a little slut. He’d been rubbing his little girl’s clit for months now, and each night it seemed that her pussy got wetter, and his cock got harder. He found her tiny clit and rubbed it back and forth between his two fingers, feeling his cock harden as she jerked her tiny hips up and down against his hand. His other hand reached for the buttons that ran all the way down the front of her nightgown, and slowly began revealing her tiny body to his hungry eyes. He released the first 3 buttons and pushed the cotton away from her chest, moaning softly as his eyes feasted on her rosy nipples. Her breasts hadn’t developed yet, but he adored their prepubescent mounds. He lowered his head and began lashing her nipples with his tongue.
Suzy groaned as she felt her daddy’s wet mouth begin to lick and suck her tiny nipples. She didn’t really understand how her body worked, but she knew that when her daddy licked her breasts, the tingling feeling in her chest was somehow linked to the tingling feeling between her legs. Her daddy seemed to like it too, because his breathing became heavy like her own, and his hand would rub her button faster as he licked and sucked. She loved it when he sucked her nipple really hard, pulling it with his lips and teeth until it hurt a little. That always made her moan and she could feel her pussy getting wetter.
The squishing noises her cunt was making were going to drive him insane. He’d never done anything more than rub her clit and suck on her tiny nipples, but he’d certainly thought of all the other things he wanted to do to his baby girl. Tonight was definitely the night to progress matters. He scooped Suzy up into his arms and stood up from the recliner chair, turning around and placing her back down on the leather seat. She looked up at him with confusion in her eyes, and he stared down at his daughter’s petite body. Her nightgown was practically nonexistent now, as it was unbuttoned to her waist and pushed up high against her tiny ass. She looked so decadent sprawled in front of him. He watched as her chest moved up and down with her rapid breathing, the nipples swollen ruby red from his urgent sucking. With one hand he reached out and pulled her leg over the arm of the chair, opening her cunt up for his gaze. As he knelt down in front of his baby girl, he pushed her other leg over the other arm. The lips of her pussy pulled apart and he could see her tiny hole, her juices oozing down her slit and pooling between the cheeks of her ass and the leather seat. He licked his lips and lowered his mouth to his daughters cunt.
Suzy couldn’t believe her daddy wanted to lick there. She instinctively tried to pull her legs together to stop him, but his big hands on her inner thighs kept them pushed wide. Then she felt his tongue sliding up her pussy and wiggling back and forth against her button, and she stopped fighting. She buried her hands in her daddy’s hair and pushed against his head as she arched her back. His mouth felt even better than his fingers. He licked her again and again as she moaned, and then suddenly she felt his tongue pushing against her. She didn’t know that anything could be put inside her, but she knew it felt good and she told her daddy not to stop as she thrust her hips up and down against the chair.
He couldn’t get enough of her pussy juice. He thrust his tongue deeper and deeper into her tight cunt and felt the walls contract around his tongue. Christ, if she was this tight, how was he ever going to get his cock inside her His hands held her ass off the seat of the chair as he buried his face in her cunt, licking and sucking as she moaned with each stab of his tongue. As he pulled his tongue out of her tight cunt and wrapped his lips around her swollen clit again, his finger rubbed her slit. He just had to feel how tight her pussy was, and with her juicy cunt so wet, he slowly pushed his middle finger into his baby girl.
Suzy felt the tip of daddy’s finger pushing into her body, and clenched around it. She heard her daddy groan, the vibration sending tiny shock waves around her button. Why did he want to put his finger inside her like this It felt so hard and thick inside her, and then she felt him slowly pulling it out again. He mustn’t have liked it in there, and she breathed a sigh of relief as she felt it pulling out. But then he pushed it inside her again, deeper this time, and she grunted, feeling her cunt widening to allow it’s entry. He slid his finger in and out, each time pushing a little deeper, and Suzy began to like the feeling. She felt so full with his finger buried inside her cunt, and she pulled her feet up onto the arms of the chair so she could push against daddy’s hand each time he slid his finger inside her. Daddy moaned when she did that and lifted his mouth off her button and whispered “oh yeah Suzy, you like that don’t you Fuck daddy’s finger, baby.” She loved it when her daddy talked to her with bad words, as it made her feel like such a big girl.
He sat back and watched as his finger slid in and out of her tiny cunt, pulling back slightly each time he felt her intact virginity. He’d imagined this so many times, but he’d never imagined it would feel this hot, or that she’d be so incredibly tight. He unbuttoned the rest of her nightgown and pulled it totally apart, revelling in the sight of her naked body writhing on his finger. He leaned over her and sucked her nipple into his mouth, pulling on it with his teeth and then bathing her whole mound with his lips and tongue. As he moved to her other nipple, he pushed a second finger into her tight cunt and heard her gasp. His thumb rubbed at her tiny clit as he pulled his fingers in and out of her wet hole. His rock hard cock throbbed in his pants and he reached down and quickly unzipped them, freeing his aching cock into his hand. He stroked himself to an identical rhythm to his two fingers fucking his baby daughter’s cunt. He sat back up again and took in the glorious sight in front of him. Suzy writhed on the seat, her hips pumping up and down, pushing her pussy up and down against his hard fingers. The head of his throbbing cock was mere inches away from her pussy as he stroked his cock harder and faster. God, she was so fucking tight and wet.
Suzy wasn’t sure what her daddy was doing to her exactly, but she was certain that she didn’t want him to stop. His fingers thrust in and out so fast, and as she looked down she saw his other hand moving back and forth below his waist. Every time he pushed his fingers inside her, she felt her pussy clench tight. Her daddy was breathing even heavier than normal and his eyes were glued to the area between her parted legs. Suddenly she felt her whole body begin to shake, and tiny grunts escaped between her clenched teeth. She felt her daddy pull his fingers from her cunt, and she groaned in disappointment. His fingers moved quickly to her button and began rubbing it in tight circles as she felt something else pushing at her wet hole beneath. She wasn’t sure what he was rubbing against her, but it felt hot against her cunt, and a lot bigger than his fingers. The tingly feeling began again in her body as she thrust her hips up and down, grinding against the hardness pressed against her as her daddy rubbed her button.
He moaned at the erotic sight of his baby girl’s cunt sliding up and down against the length of his rock hard cock. Her juices were flowing freely now, bathing his shaft in their wetness, and he knew he wasn’t going to last much longer. Suzy was grunting harder now and he watched as her tiny body began to shake. As his hand reached down and stroked the head of his cock against her daughter’s cunt lips, he whispered “that’s it Suzy….rub against daddy’s cock….you like that don’t you baby….cum for me Suzy….cum on daddy’s cock”. She went rigid beneath him and then began to thrust her hips frantically, moaning daddy over and over again as her virginal cunt orgasmed against the head of his cock. He stroked faster as he watched her cum, then moaned her name as his cock exploded against her pussy, spurting stream after stream of thick white cum between her parted pussy lips. He’d never cum this much in all his life, and he watched as his cum mingled with the juices flowly freely from her tight hole.
Suzy felt as if her whole body was exploding. She couldn’t catch her breath, and her hips seemed to have a mind of their own as they pumped up and down against her daddy. She never wanted this feeling to end, and she loved her daddy so much for making her feel this good. He was moaning as he jerked against her, and she felt something hot spurting against her little pussy hole. She wondered briefly if she was going to get in trouble for making a wet mess on her daddy’s favorite chair, but when she looked up into his eyes, she could see that he wasn’t mad at all. He smiled down at her as he said “I think it’s past your bedtime, honey. Let’s get you cleaned up and into bed so you can get a good night’s sleep for school tomorrow.”

Business understanding is an excellent demand on skills in operating a system that obviously builds upon a product or product, to have MANUFACTURED, to sell in the marketplace.
Education is a skill, obviously a CULTIVATED ENERGY … to: GROW | CREATE … INTELLECT | “enlightening” the human being.
Running and/or operating a business cannot be accessed without education. Understanding the consumption of products (intelligently) requires education.
Brainwashing children to be nothing more than disposable commodities to shop til dropping: drugs, war, sex, lies, horror, etc.
IS THE NEW WORLD ORDER. Just ask Condi who said on her resume she wants to serve in teaching children how to be GLOBAL CITIZENS.

You don’t have to have an education to understand business and do well for yourself. Its one of the great lies.
1. Any graduating college student who majored in business will tell you that once they got a real job, thier employer probably did things vastly different than the college professor taught them. In fact, college professors are notorious for not knowing a damn thing about the real world.
2. My father never made it out of 9th grade but runs a multi-million dollar corporation. Knowing how to make money and run business has nothing to do with text-books in alot of cases.

Business programs in most colleges are designed to do nothing other than make you a corporate drone who is too afraid to become an entrepaneur. After just a few classes in accounting and one in economics I changed my major to history. One accounting professor stated that it was impossible to succeed in your own business. Because he failed. However, my grandfather only had a 9th grade education and made about 10 million with his own piano business.

Evolutionary Theory is just that, a theory.
Theory: A proposed explanation whose status is still conjectural, in contrast to well established propositions that are regarded as reporting matter of actual fact.
the problem here friend is that I had that theory presented to me my entire life until I had enough of just believing what I’m told to believe. I’ve investigated the materials available on this theory and find it so full of holes that it would take just as much FAITH to believe it, as to believe in a Holy God.

Theory in science does not mean the same thing as theory when used normally.
Aristoteles theory on gravitation provided an explanation. Then Newton came along and explained it much better. Later on Einstein added to it (which explains even more). But its still not complete but might one day be. Many things in science are difficult to write into laws and facts.
When it comes to designer creation, the evidence is zero. because there is nothing to test. And they are not equally about faith.
There is zero evidence for one god. There might be millions. You have no way of knowing that. Its far more likely that you’ve been told to believe in one god and that is the reason you believe in one or none. But, had you been born in say in India instead the chances are suddenly all the higher to think that there could be plenty of gods.
And if any god created this world.. well, then think about how easy it would’ve been to make things better. Big brother is clearly not great.

Btw. Its not difficult to understand why holy books are wrong. They were written by men for a long time ago, its one of the earlier efforts to try to explain the world and give a philosophy to live in. So of course a lot of it is wrong, and simply outdated.
The people who wrote the bible were not even aware of dinosaurs.

The God haters are even more amusing than the Muster X pervert.
Speaking of 1984, DK would be proud of you.
Astronomers estimate the universe at approximately 13 to 15 billion years old. Let’s reference the fields of statistics and biochemistry and incorporate the field of astrophysics. The chance of only 100 amino acids aligning together in the correct sequence – less than a simple protein useful in the production of life – is 1 in
10 to 157th power.
Astrophysicists estimate that there are 10 to 80th power infinitesimal “particles” in the
universe. They estimate that the earth is no older than 30 billion years (10 to 18th power seconds) old. Generously allowing every particle to participate in
one thousand billion (10 to 12th power) events per second yields 10^80 x 10^18 x 10^12 or 10 to the 110th power (you add exponents in this case), whatever that number is called. It is still 10 to the 47th power away from forming less than the simplest protein.
In other words, evolution is statistically impossible even generously granting it the greatest leeway. There’s literally not enough time and if there were it’s virtually
statistically impossible for anything from the simplest protein molecule much less fully developed cells and whole organisms.
The foundation of evolution is something called naturalism. In a nutshell, naturalism claims that nature is totally self-contained in terms of natural causes and laws. There is no God that created it or much less presently governing its operation. Obviously, any miracles such as God creating earth by a mere command are pure hogwash by this train of thought. It is very atheistic in its tone and parallels with other atheistic themes in today’s world including the Godless “New” Age movement and the current education
system.
p.s. To be sure, I am speaking of macro-evolution. There is little doubt that micro-evolution occurs, and btw, macro-evolution goes against Both of the Laws of Thermodynamics.

How exactly hate something that one cannot possible convince himself to believe in?
And if there is a god, then which one? We’ve invented thousands of them.
But if we ponder on whether god actually exists. Then we have to ask..is this the best he can do? Why invent diseases?
Fact is, we don’t need god to explain anything in this world, because constantly we come to better conclusions supported by actual evidence (instead of old books written by people who really didn’t know a lot about anything)… no supernatural creation is necessary. Yes, some things may seem improbable and unexplainable. But it does not (again) prove any sort of god. The concept of god of the gaps is getting tinier and tinier all the time.
Earth is no older than 30 billion years old? Which books are you reading exactly?
The sun is not even close to that age, how on earth (excuse the pun) could the earth be older than the sun?
Fact: Life on this planet will one day become impossible, because life is hardly sustainable as it is. Most species have already dies out. Some design huh?
And again, if god, a creator for all does exist then nothing is impossible. Every rule can be broken and bended, changed etc..
And as the saying goes. To most gods we’re all atheists. Why don’t you religious convert to them all so that he/she/it/they/whatever might save your non-perfect created sick souls?

Thanks for the antitheist rambling, but my response was not about proving God.
Current ‘theory’ and observations suggest that the universe is between 13.5 and 14 billion years. Which books are you reading?
In all of that rambling, I never saw a counter to the argument in my repjy.
How do you believe in a theory that was created by Marxists to disprove God and that is scientificly impossible? That question is rhetorical, since the answer is that it is your ‘belief system’. You were indoctrinated to believe in your state-sponsored church, the public re-education system.
If you have a response (to my original post) that is not rambling or condescending, I will reciprocate.
This is about science, not God. Let’s Talk Science.
p.s. Shouldn’t your ‘theory of evolution’ have taken care of that disease thing by now?

‘Because the exact accretion time of Earth is not yet known, and the predictions from different accretion models range from a few millions up to about 100 million years, the exact age of Earth is difficult to determine.’
Again, ‘They (astrophysicists) ‘estimate’ that the earth is ‘no older’ than 30 billion years.’ Is this difficult to comprehend? Maybe a translator would help.

No, because plenty of diseases mutate end we’re not the cream of the crop when it comes to design. Because we’re not designed. We’re just animals. Do you even understand evolution?
One cannot disprove a negative. God(s) cannot be proven nor disproven.
Talk science? Then leave mythology out of it first.. bring something testable to the table.
Wrong assumptions.. many of my teachers were christians, and they made silly unsupported claims. One of the reasons I lost faith altogether. I don’t have the burden of proof. The religious do.

Check out Common Law, it might surprise you how you can turn the tables back on them.

And it’s not like the teachers agree with this shit either. One of my neighbors when I lived in Texas was in the school system. She worked until about 7pm during the week. During the summer she was either in classes or at school doing busy-work for the system. I think that powerpoint mastery is the key to getting a teaching degree, not the subject that you teach. For example, in Georgia to have the history certification for a teaching certificate all you have to take is 4 history classes. 2 are mandatory for all students. Way to go on the indepth studying!

“Capitolism is good. it is the only fair way to survive as a country.”
I’d love to see ALL the alternatives you have examined and dismissed to state this nonsense.
Bottom line: Needing money to live is ‘the scam’. That’s it. The fraud laid bare. This is the root of all the other frauds and scams in the economic arena. This is the ‘base’ from which ’scarcity’ is manufactured. Scarcity guarantees available slaves, able to be put to any, and all, nefarious activities to everbody else’s detriment, often including their own. And the root of ’scarcity’? Historical control over land and resources.
The answer is available. And NONE of this is rocket science if you are capable of original thought. Get OUT of your box and stop repeating mindless drivel. Work it out.
Land and Resources are ‘rightfully’ owned by ALL of us. If you dispute this show me God’s contract with land and resource owners? When you can’t, start to think about ‘inheritance’ and it’s role in aquisition. Think about ‘profit’ and ‘greed’ when you have to compete against others who’ first priority ‘is not’ profit. What happens to the environment, when ‘profit driven’ owners no longer have that control? What is ’supply and demand’ REALLY?
Far from being ‘human nature’ these atributes are ‘manufactured’ and by not seeing this you fall straight into their intended programming.

If you doubt what I say, consider this…
The elite are buying up and starting to corral water supplies. They already serially bill you for this natural resource. As their control increases, your bills will rise and amount will decrease.
OR…
you could have had an ecoloblue system… ie. independance from their artificial scarcity. Any government worth the name would have bent over backwards to ensure you were provided the independant solution. But they don’t. Because they are all in on the fraud and criminality. ALL of them.
What would happen to ‘their’ water infrastructure system, their profits, their corporate value, their ability to poison you, their ability to dictate where you do what?
Get it? It’s ALL a scam based on ’stolen ownership’ of land and resources.
Now transfer this principle to virtually ‘every’ other sector of societal economics and you will see this is repeated at every level. You are all being robbed blind and STILL don’t want to bite the magic bullet that would free us all.
There are NO entrepreuners… only those willing to go along to get along. Take away all this bogus nonsense and the real competition that would erupt would eclipse present day so called, entrepreuneurs.

the original subject concerning schools using consumerism terms: The article was great to expose the blatant use of terms to turn human beings into human resources to be used by the system. The schools can be better, but as they stand now they are brainwashing centers, and nothing more than indoctrination prisons. The majority of the teachers are liberal and force their opinions on the students. They intimidate and coerce students to accept the party line. the students are also under peer pressure from fellow students. I am not sure home schooling is always the best answer. But public schools for the most part are not happy places. they are dark, cold places that teach conformity. the system is creating new compliant workers to be another cog in the wheel. New workers are drained of their time and labor to keep the system going. and the sad part is, the slaves want it so. Why? because they have been taught to conform, obey, do as they are told, not to question anything, and the train others to do the same. They are controlled from cradle to the grave. They aren’t aware of any alternatives, and have never seen or expereinced the “old west” type of liberty.

Why are schools prisons that teach nothing of worth, challenge, beauty, and wonder?

As Mr. Spock would say: Fascinating! So, the bureaucrats in English public education are now using ‘corporate-talk’ euphemisms to refer to academic subjects & topics. Perhaps, they aspire to turn their public education system into corporatist cultural re-education camp system. Here at a large corporation in New York City, where I’m at, the vocabulary in official memos and directives since 9-11-2001 has been ’seasoned’ with military code jargon like “action on…” (used as a verb), “search and destroy”, “sortee” and “collateral damage”. No, I am not kidding. Recently, since about 2 years ago, “they” started mixing in “Green” euphemisms, like “organic” and “holistic” to refer to matters of workflow, “environment”, “sustainable” and “pollution” to refer to corporate culture dynamics, profitability and topics out of scope. Folks, whenever you find out of place euphemisms in written documents or during verbal presentations, you are usually being lied to, by people who don’t know what the hell they are talking about themselves!!!. I insist on plain language, when I get a load of this crap, even if it means embarassing the people who write or talk this way.

Is it not through social contact that we learn such skills as conflict resolution, leadership skills, societal rules, effective bargaining skills, communication, etc.?
Any education, whether book learning or documentary watching or internet browsing or sitting in a hall listening to a lecture, any education must be accompanied by life experiences. If we don’t force our kids to “go outside and play” then those critical neuronal connections are not forged in the brains of the young. They do not connect through any means but by play and mimic and experience.

“Teaching to the tests,” is absolutely spot on. Here in the UK, our classroom walls in both primary and secondary schools are covered in posters showing what needs to be done to achieve the different levels for SATS. Yesterday, I was working in a primary school and looking at work children were doing on computers. One pupil was working on a piece of writing about himself and there was a phrase I wanted to replace with a single word, “and,” because with the phrase the child was using, the sentence didn’t make sense.
Well, the teaching assistant stepped in and asked the child what level he was working on and then told me that to achieve that level, the child had to use that phrase. I finally got agreement that “and,” was appropriate and it was changed, but the TA insisted that, “and,” was only a level one “connective,” and therefore not good for the child’s targets. Nuts I say!!!
