Parents are to be fingerprinted when they pick their children up from nursery school, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.
Up to 50 nurseries and playgroups have already signed up for the new security measures, thought to be the first time parents have been targetted in this way.
Civil libertarians have branded the decision a “huge overeaction”.
The new entry system requires people who collect their children to place their finger on a scanner, to make sure that only nominated individuals can get through secure entrances.

Kidsunlimited, the nursery chain, will be rolling out the new technology to its 50 playgroups.
Honeycomb Solutions, the security firm behind the technology, say it is an effective way to monitor who is on their premises.
The scanners work by converting parents’ finger prints into a code number. This number enables the system to recognise the finger, without storing any biometric data.
The company claims that the database cannot be accessed by any human, similar to the way banks protect credit card pin numbers.
Peter Churchley of Caring Daycare, a group of eight nursery schools in Surrey that cater for children aged 3 months to 5 years, said: “We’ve had the Honeycombe Solutions fingerprinting technology installed in two of our nurseries.

And what happens if they don’t give their fingerprints? It’s ridiculous. The only people that children need keeping safe from on the whole are governments and their collaborators, many of whom are teachers. How can we get rid of these scum? I’m ready to turn the planet into a cinder because it’s better than these people remaining in charge of anything.

Oh, yes, it is an effective way of monitoring who is on the premises. Of course, to start with, the data won’t be shared but the “The Government has issued guidance telling head teachers they have the right to collect pupils’ biometric data for security reasons. ”
It only takes one future law to be passed to make all that data available to whomever the government chooses.
What a great way to get every parent fingerprinted and subsequently put on a database. And, after all, it’s only for the ’safety of the children’.
Notice how they don’t mention that anyone could just break into the school if they were really intent on hurting children? How do they plan on preventing that? Go from a school that is a virtual prison to an actual one?

On the other side of the coin…Yes, I don’t agree with it on all fronts but at the same time, if it keeps the wrong people out of the schools then maybe it is not so bad. Fingerprints may not be the way to go though, in my opinion. At my job they use the shape of the person’s hand for the time clock which is less intrusive in my opinion since it only records the shape and not the prints. Also, if somebody shoots up a school or steals someone’s child then the first finger will be pointed at the school for not having any safeguards in place. I don’t like big brother either but with our litigiuos society hard choices sometimes have to be made. Fingerprints are too far, but hand shape is not as intrusive and is just as reliable and is already in use. Since hand shape can not “currently” be tied to government databases then that would be a better choice. Maybe few would agree with me. The greater the population grows though, the greater these foul incidences will grow at our schools and they obviously are. It’s simple statistics. Hard choices to be made and there won’t be any easy answers.
