Everyone who buys a mobile telephone will be forced to register their identity on a national database under government plans to extend massively the powers of state surveillance.
Phone buyers would have to present a passport or other official form of identification at the point of purchase. Privacy campaigners fear it marks the latest government move to create a surveillance society.
A compulsory national register for the owners of all 72m mobile phones in Britain would be part of a much bigger database to combat terrorism and crime. Whitehall officials have raised the idea of a register containing the names and addresses of everyone who buys a phone in recent talks with Vodafone and other telephone companies, insiders say.
(Article continues below)
The move is targeted at monitoring the owners of Britain’s estimated 40m prepaid mobile phones. They can be purchased with cash by customers who do not wish to give their names, addresses or credit card details.
The pay-as-you-go phones are popular with criminals and terrorists because their anonymity shields their activities from the authorities. But they are also used by thousands of law-abiding citizens who wish to communicate in private.
The move aims to close a loophole in plans being drawn up by GCHQ, the government’s eavesdropping centre in Cheltenham, to create a huge database to monitor and store the internet browsing habits, e-mail and telephone records of everyone in Britain.
The “Big Brother” database would have limited value to police and MI5 if it did not store details of the ownership of more than half the mobile phones in the country.

October 19th, 2008 at 7:32 am
When will enough be enough???
October 19th, 2008 at 7:40 am
We are just one step or two away from the time when we shall need such documents in order to be able to buy A LOAF OF BREAD.
If you think I`m kidding – think again – better start reading…
Revelation 13:17
And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Some 20 mins ago, I made a similar post to this on the Daily Mail Online website (when they too published the story)
Strangely their story HAS NOW BEEN REMOVED, lol.
Now you will need a passport to buy a mobile phone under Big Brother style scheme – 19th Oct 08

MAYBE`S ITS SCARED THEM KNOWING – THAT SOME OF US KNOW WHAT THE PLANS ARE.

911 looks like an inside job….52% of New Yorkers appear to think so….join club, what took you so long?
As regards 7/7 in London, there was a massive anti-terrorist “exercise” going on that morning, evidently involving a scenario where there was one bomb on a road vehicle and three on the underground…at the three stations where the actual bombs went off!!!!!!!
This could off course be a “coincidence”….but all this anti-terrorist nonsense on both sides of the Atlantic has shafted the American Constitition and our own rights and privacy.
Just think it through.

All UK/US residents should go out and rent the ‘V for Vendetta’ DVD. Then they don’t have to wait another couple of years to see for themselves what the police state, implemented under the BS guise of the war on terror, will look like.

Now were can those great Guy Fawkes masks be purchased..
October 19th, 2008 at 9:49 am
You need an official form of ID to buy a mobile phone sim card in France since quite a while….who knows where this information goes….
October 19th, 2008 at 10:03 am
“Privacy campaigners fear it marks the latest government move to create a surveillance society.
So when are privacy campaigners actually going to get off their arse and do something about it instead of coming out with the same crap time after time. Action not words is what is needed now or maybe a new perpose built mental hospital for the government to recieve treatment for their problems………….lets face it the government and the intelegance services need help their really sick.
PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN THE WORD NO AND HOW TO SAY IT.
October 19th, 2008 at 10:03 am
I bought a 3 Mobile Broadband device and the shop assistant asked me for my name and address. I asked, is that nessasary and she said no. So I paid in cash and was not put in the database.
However in most cases it is possible to figure out who someone is by who their friends are. Simply look at where emails and texts come from and go to and you can simply ask one of those people who the person is.
Keep old SIMs since they can be handy. However I can see them needing to be reactivated if the government are serious about this plan. Maybe this ties in with clamping down on illegal imigrants. If everyone has to show ID for everything in order to stop immigration….

IF people would only believe us Christians for once.
God forewarned us all about `the mark of the beast`
Scripture says it will affect EVERY man, woman or child – rich or poor, free or bond.
Why dont folks trust us for once?
We are trying our best to forewarn everyone.
Please read it for yourself :
Revelation 13:15-18
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 AND THAT NO MAN MIGHT BUY OR SELL, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
http://tinyurl.com/4p3dlv
`THE MARK` will probably be the MICROCHIP – something they`ll tell us is necessary after the next TERRORIST attack (no doubt a false flag one, of course)
PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY.
No matter what your beliefs are – at least LISTEN to what those words are telling you.
October 19th, 2008 at 11:13 am
When you go and buy a new phone and they ask for your passport or details, we all just have to start saying “NO”, ,,say no and refuse to buy the phone ,,and walk out of the shop!
David Icke has been urging people to do this with alot of issues relating to “big brother control”,,they will soon get the message,. But i suppose there will be the usual idiots who “need” their latest phone and give the excuse thay they can,t survive with out one.
Save your old phones and sim cards, you might need them!
“if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear),as the saying goes,
“I have “NOTHING” to hide, so why the “BLOODY HELL” do you want to spy on me you “SCUM”!!!!
Anyway i have never been out of my much loved Great Britain, thats right,iv no passport,
so how do they plan to take my info?
October 19th, 2008 at 11:48 am
Mob phones we can all do without.
But what are you going to do if and when they demand you get microchipped – so that you can buy FOOD – WATER – USE THE BANKS – THE SCHOOLS – THE MEDICAL FACILITIES ???????
People had better start listening – IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN FOLKS.
October 19th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Just to state the obvious here, but who is going to adminsiter and keep the database updated
?
People move address, people give phones to other people. People sell their phones and update to new phones. People lose phones.
Very quickly the database is going to become incorrect.
Methinks it’s not about the security of the people at all, it’s all rubbish when they talk about terrorism and crime prevention.
I would have thought they would have brought in these measures when the IRA was bombing London spontaneuously for all those years there was certainly a greater sense of Terrorism then due to the random and prolonged bombing campaign.
This is pathetic especially how the public is asked to believe these “stories” and the public laps it all up!
WAKE UP!
This is classic Problem Reaction Solution!!!
October 19th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
There will be some idiots who will claim that if “you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear” . but nevermind hey, because as the man says, “war is peace, freedom is slavery, and ignorance is strength” right!
October 19th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Our power lies in the word NO! We are going to have to decide that we don’t have to go along with these stupid rules that we have another option and that is to say NO! Why is it that just a few shore years ago only a few had cell phones and we all did just fine without them but now it seems that most everyone thinks they just can’t get along without one? No matter if they are tracked and spied upon through them they just can’t live without them but obviously they do not yet see the big picture in all this tracking and spying because they think they are safe but they are not!
October 19th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
@ Lauren McJ: The mark of the beast is primarily a religious thing. There are those who refuse it (described as the elect) and everyone else. That means that whatever it signifies in Scripture, it primarily signifies the difference between believers and unbelievers.
Personally, I have my doubts about a microchip implant being the mark. For one, technology is moving towards centralised or “cloud” computing, wherein all pertinent data on any person or thing can be stored centrally rather than remotely. With accelerated advances in facial, gait. iris, voice and even human shadow recognition, I am seeing less and less of any need for any implanted devices. At the very most, perhaps a tattoo (maybe a barcode), would suffice but if the surveillance coverage goes as far as they want it to, even that need not be necessary. You could be stopped from buying or selling just by being scanned.
Finally, I would point out that in Europe in the Dark Ages, unless one was a baptised Roman Catholic, trading / commerce was forbidden. The Reformers took the view – and this is not worth dismissing lightly – that the mark signified false religion, specifically that religion connected to the seat of the Beast, which Revelation describes as a city built on seven hills, i.e. Rome. The reckoning was, just as the Hebrews were to bind the Law of God to their wrists and foreheads (metaphorically), so that when at work and when in contemplation, they acknowledged the Messianic religion, by the same token the mark of the beast in the hand or forehead represents rejection of that one true faith.

Anyone heard of voice recognition. Been out for like 15 years or so. Everyone’s voice and identity is already in a database. Buy a pre-paid phone thinking you can have a private conversation? Think again.
This is nothing more than getting people to think they can actually have a private communication with anyone.
Every frequency, ever radio wave, internet, cell phone, you name it is already monitored. Although illegal it has been done for years.
They want to know what we think and what we intend to do before we do it.
Plain and simple, they are scared.
October 19th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
If you are not doing anything illegal you have no reason for concern about the government monitoring everything you do.

Do a search on a search engine that does not log your information: http://www.ixquick.com .
Try Voice Recognition or Voice Biometrics. Warning, cell phone is not required! Although the fact they can turn on the mic anytime they want may make this the best way yet!
October 19th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
This is a invasion of pricacy and unconstitutional. I hope this never happens in america.
Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
If I can not talk on my cell phone without being recorded something is wrong. If you diagree mabe you should watch the movie 1984 by george orwell.
Brit police says.
If you are not doing anything illegal you have no reason for concern about the government monitoring everything you do.
Well I say what if the laws change and the government requries everyone to report to labor camps then what? What if the freedom of speech laws change next?
October 19th, 2008 at 8:03 pm

I own a cellphone. “Pay as you go”, cellphone. I used my credit card to buy it. The government knows who is using my cellphone. Through my credit card. Even if I paid cash? It wouldn’t matter. So many camera’s and telephone tapping going on? Us American’s are screwed too! The Republicrats who are puppets to the CFR, Bilderbergs and Trilats, are selling us to the NWO.
Our Democracy ended when they gave away our wealth to the top 1%. 32% live in poverty, in the United States. The way it looks? Continuing poverty will spread. Until WE the People, act. I’m sure it won’t be long.
October 20th, 2008 at 1:16 am
of course here in the US we have a government that is protecting We The People by recording all calls and finding as many super computers needed to store these calls forever…
Have no fear we are NOT being marked as cattle and it is for your own good that we need to have all your credit card information, and Oh By The Way… please line up for your micro chip implant!
No Worries Mate, it is just a Nightmare… go back to sleep.
October 20th, 2008 at 1:23 am
This is probably the first of many things for which a passport will be needed in the near future. Considering the number of people without passports and the costs involved in getting one perhaps the government will offer to let us all have identification cards which we can get cheaper than a pasport, small enough to be able to be carried everywhere and which will prove who we are. Put like that very many people WILL agree to using a back door into ID cards just like sheep without realising till they are signed up.

“watch the movie 1984 by george orwell” – NO. The film was directed by Michael Radford, the novel from which the film was adapted was written by Orwell.
Haha, how about reading the book. The message in the true form.

Easily beaten by not buying mobile phones, a bit like the easily beaten SKY TV or 1001 other ‘easily beaten’ issues. But of course no-one will actually do FA, as per usual. I’m fast arriving at the conclusion everyone deserves everything they get. I’m almost past caring!
October 20th, 2008 at 3:38 am
Just steal a freaking phone…done
October 20th, 2008 at 4:57 am
There’s suddenly gonna be a huge black market for mobile phones then, bet the companies will be really pleased about that!
This is all gettting extremely tiresome, all ‘their’ bullshit ideas for getting our data and DNA, they don’t even pretend to have a good excuse anymore!
October 20th, 2008 at 5:49 am
You gotta be kidding me. This is so far the most rediculous thing I have heard yet. What a joke. And people say it is bad in the USA? Europe keeps telling the American people to wake up, sounds like they need to wake up in England…
October 20th, 2008 at 6:23 am

The police are looking to arrest you. That is their job. You probably broke some obscure law and if they have all of your data then they can arrest you at any time. Or maybe someone in government like a competitor to your business wants you arrested.
The police can be very brutal if they want to be. This is why privacy is important. There is no reason for them to know everything about you and it would involve a huge waste of resources that could better be put into catching actual criminals.

Yep.. we live in interesting times.. its too late to work within the system… and becoming time to shoot the bastards. It is recommended to have an AR-15 chambered in 5.56 NATO, and both a 9mm and 40 cal. pistol…. thats what our enemies are going to be carrying… ya can utilize the universal parts and ammo. Its ironic that we have UN vehicles being stored here in the U.S. current U.S. military urban training events ( to have the people become ” accustomed” to seeing military craft and movement. ) and thousands of FEMA camps constructed right here on U.S. soil.. scares the hell out of me. hope ya’ll prepared. When ya start seeing military hovering around your neighborhoods, and white vehicles UN on the sides of them, and blue helmets… be ready now……. not then.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:43 am
Passports needed to buy phone..ok..they now need to know who we call on our cell phones..like me ordering pizza or talking to my girl friend is going to become a threat to national security..my my my..line up people..here come the tattoos. Here come the camps..oh wait..they built those already.Maybe they’ll spy on us using satelites..oh damn..they got that too? ok next up..thought crimes..eat the rich..
October 22nd, 2008 at 1:07 pm
I’m actually amazed by the impression I got was that it seems they have a little more cell freedom there than we do right now. Prepaid phones are available, but their a joke. Your minutes run out if they aren’t used quickly, obviously to discourage using them. Apparently it’s mainly here you’re locked into contracts as well. America….the ‘capitalist’ SUCKERS. We’ll agree to anything as long as it’s under the banner of ‘capitalism’.
