The first civil claim brought by a victim against Penn State University over child sexual abuse by former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky has been settled, an attorney for the young man told NBC News Saturday.

Philadelphia-based attorney Tom Kline said his client, known as Victim 5, and representatives of Penn State had signed the settlement Friday.

Sandusky, 69, was convicted in 2012 of 45 counts of child sex abuse, which he committed during and after he was a defensive coach at the university. He is serving a sentence of 30 to 60 years but is appealing the conviction.

Kline said he believes that settlements will be finalized in 25 other of the 31 civil cases against the school “in the next two to three weeks.” Kline said that his client is “relieved” at the settlement and noted that the man “provided key testimony” against Sandusky.
