A petition posted to the White House’s “We The People” petition submission site asks for the elimination of armed guards at schools that the president’s and other politicians’ children attend.

The petition states that “If Gun Free Zones are sufficient protection for our children,” meaning “regular Americans’” children, “then Gun Free Zones should be good enough for politicians.”
Likely spurred by a Breitbart report published earlier this week pointing out that the president’s daughters attend Sidwell Friends School in Washington D.C. – a school that has no less than 11 armed security guards at all times – the petition is quickly garnering the signatures needed to necessitate a response from the Obama administration, standing, as of publishing, at a hefty 6,382 signatures within just five days of posting.
“And this is the reason people like NBC’s David Gregory send their kids to Sidwell,” Awr Harkins of Breitbart wrote, adding, “they know their kids will be protected from the carnage that befell kids at a school where armed guards weren’t used (and weren’t even allowed).” Gregory himself is now the subject of a police investigation after flashing a 30-round gun magazine during last Sunday’s Meet the Press.
In the same interview, Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, ended the group’s bout of silence following the Sandy Hook massacre by proclaiming that children would be safer in schools with armed guards protecting them.
“If it’s crazy to call for armed officers in our schools to protect our children, then call me crazy,” LaPierre told Gregory, at which point Gregory randomly pulled out a 30-bullet gun magazine, possibly violating the city’s firearm laws.
At least one school district in Texas already allows teachers to carry firearms onto school premises, and Texas Governor Rick Perry has stated that he would have no problem allowing teachers with concealed weapons permits to carry arms in schools.
Exiting Congressman Ron Paul also recently weighed in on the issue, stating that federal legislation requiring armed guards would accelerate the already-thriving police state:
Do we really believe government can provide total security? Do we want to involuntarily commit every disaffected, disturbed, or alienated person who fantasizes about violence? Or can we accept that liberty is more important than the illusion of state-provided security? Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives. We shouldn’t settle for substituting one type of violence for another. Government role is to protect liberty, not to pursue unobtainable safety.
As we learned yesterday, the administration may not even respond to the petition even if it does gain the 25k signatures needed as they routinely cherry-pick which ones they wish to address. For instance, the Texas secession petition quickly received the signatures needed to require a response, however, 45 days later, has yet to elicit one.
Another petition making headway on the site is calling to “Try Senator Dianne Feinstein in a Federal Court For Treason To The Constitution.” Yesterday, Feinstein made waves after announcing she would introduce a bill in January calling for “stopping the sale, transfer, importation and manufacturing of assault weapons as well as large ammunition magazines, strips and drums that hold more than 10 rounds.”
Additionally, her bill proposes fingerprinting and registering of all gun owners in the U.S., effectively imposing what some have called “de facto gun confiscation,” as the government “will know who has legal possession of each firearm. They will know where the firearm is stored. When physical possession of the gun is desired, they can order you to turn it in,” according to Dean Weingarten.
The bill would also outlaw flash suppressors, bayonet mounts, thumbhole stocks and bullet buttons on firearms.
Infowars.com’s Kurt Nimmo currently has a petition up calling for the deportation of CNN’s Piers Morgan for subverting the Constitution by attempting to strip American’s of their Second Amendment right to bear arms. The petition met and exceeded its target of 25,000 signatures within three days of being posted.
Alex Jones and Infowars have created a new petition calling for citizens to demand feds turn in their firearms in the interest of safety. The petition text reads:
Journalist Alex Jones and Infowars.com are calling for President Barack Obama to issue an executive order amending the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990. The executive order will establish the White House, all federal buildings and federal events as gun free zones and all federal security personnel will turn in their guns. We also demand the order apply to private schools such as Sidwell Friends School attended by the president’s daughters. This petition is a response to government and corporate media dismissing a call for armed guards at schools following the Sandy Hook shooting. Jones and Infowars.com believe there should not be a double standard. If the government believes gun free zones are a solution for citizens, the same standard should apply to government servants and employees.
