Only the left can get away with pointing their bloody fingers at everyone else. Robert Tracinski opined:

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik set the tone right away by declaring: “When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government—the anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry.” Sheriff Dupnik previously made news for refusing to comply with Arizona’s new immigration-enforcement law, so he is using this tragedy to beat his favorite hobby horse.

Subjected to the polite and highly effective cross-examination for which Fox News Channel’s Megyn Kelly is becoming famous, Dupnik was forced to admit that this statement was “just my opinion” and that when it comes to the shooter’s actual motive, “I don’t have that information yet.” That’s the standard of professionalism at the Pima County Sheriff’s office: take an investigation that is hours old, with a suspect about whom they know next to nothing, and use it to engage in baseless speculation to promote a political agenda.

Sheriff Dupnik was hardly alone. This is what the left has been waiting for ever since the rise of the Tea Party movement: an act of violence that would allow them to replay 1995, smearing the right as terrorists or terrorist sympathizers and thereby suppressing all political opposition to the left. Don’t take my word for it. Listen to the Democratic operative who laid out the game plan for The Politico: “They need to deftly pin this on the tea partiers. Just like the Clinton White House deftly pinned the Oklahoma City bombing on the militia and anti-government people.”

Sheriff Who Suggested Talk Shows May Have Incited Attack Was Asked by Fellow Democrats to Apologize for ‘Inflammatory’ Remarks on Immigration; Blamed Local Violence on Policymakers Who Stopped Institutionalizing Mentally Ill

(CNSNews.com) – Arizona’s Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, who on Saturday suggested radio and television talk shows were somehow responsible for inciting a man who may be mentally disturbed to kill six people and wound 13 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), once blamed policymakers for violence in his county because they had stopped institutionalizing mentally ill people…

Pima County Sheriff Dupnik Blamed Right Wing for Slaughter But Details Emerge of Multiple Contacts between Jared Loughner and the Sheriffs office over Multiple Death Threats 101210banner4

Feel free to jump to the end of this article — NPR unknowingly, just put the blame on Sheriff Dupnik. Oh my.

(Cholla Jumps) This is the report that Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik has been dreading since the tragic event on Saturday January 8.

The sheriff has been editorializing and politicizing the event since he took the podium to report on the incident. His blaming of radio personalities and bloggers is a pre-emptive strike because Mr. Dupnik knows this tragedy lays at his feet and his office. Six people died on his watch and he could have prevented it. He needs to step up and start apologizing to the families of the victims instead of spinning this event to serve his own political agenda.

Jared Loughner, pronounced by the Sheriff as Lock-ner, saying it was the Polish pronunciation. Of course he meant Scott or Irish but that isn’t the point. The point is he and his office have had previous contact with the alleged assailant in the past and that is how he knows how to pronounce the name.

Jared Loughner has been making death threats by phone to many people in Pima County including staff of Pima Community College, radio personalities and local bloggers. When Pima County Sheriff’s Office was informed, his deputies assured the victims that he was being well managed by the mental health system. It was also suggested that further pressing of charges would be unnecessary and probably cause more problems than it solved as Jared Loughner has a family member that works for Pima County. Amy Loughner is a Natural Resource specialist for the Pima County Parks and Recreation. My sympathies and my heart goes out to her and the rest of Mr. Loughner’s family. This tragedy must be tearing them up inside wondering if they had done the right things in trying to manage Jared’s obvious mental instability.

Every victim of his threats previously must also be wondering if this tragedy could have been prevented if they had been more aggressive in pursuing charges against Mr. Loughner. Perhaps with a felony conviction he would never have been able to lawfully by the Glock 9mm Model 19 that he used to strike down the lives of six people and decimate 14 more.

This was not an act of politics. This was an act of a mentally disturbed young man hell bent on getting his 15 minutes of infamy. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department was aware of his violent nature and they failed to act appropriately. This tragedy leads right back to Sherriff Dupnik and all the spin in the world is not going to change that fact.

In case you’re wondering if any of this story holds water, here’s today’s report from NPR that has absolutely no idea they just incriminated Sheriff Dupnik:

(NPR) In the wake of Saturday’s shooting rampage in Arizona, a more detailed picture is emerging of Jared Lee Loughner, the man police have accused of opening fire.

Loughner, 22, who is in law enforcement custody, lives near the scene of the shooting, which killed six people and injured at least a dozen others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said there’s reason to believe Loughner has “a mental issue” and described him as “unhinged.” Dupnik said he believed Giffords was the target of the attack.

“As we understand it, there have been law enforcement contacts with the individual where he made threats to kill,” Dupnik said during a press conference Saturday evening. But he wouldn’t say who those threats were aimed at.
