Police director sues for critical bloggers’ names

Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin and the city of Memphis have filed a lawsuit to learn who operates a blog harshly critical of Godwin and his department.
The lawsuit asks AOL to produce all information related to the identity of an e-mail address linked to MPD Enforcer 2.0, a blog popular with police officers that has been extremely critical of police leadership at 201 Poplar.
“In what could be a landmark case of privacy and the 1st Amendment,” the anonymous bloggers write on the site, “Godwin has illegally used his position and the City of Memphis as a ram to ruin the Constitution of the United States.

“Some members of the Enforcer 2.0 have contacted their attorneys and we are in the process of filing a lawsuit against Larry and the City of Memphis. What’s wrong Larry? The truth hurt?”
It wasn’t clear if the lawsuit is aimed at shutting down the site or if it’s part of an effort to stop leaks that might affect investigations.
Many of the documents in the case, filed in Chancery Court on July 10, have been sealed by Chancellor Kenny Armstrong. Police officials would not discuss the action, citing pending litigation.

Where there’s smoke, fire is not far behind. First Amendment trumps police finding out who is writing what about them. It is not their business, if they were not acting like thugs to get reported about, then what is the problem?

Im sure Godwin understands that everyone has the right to freedom of speech unless he is so corrupt he thinks he must crush differing opinions like a Nazi thug. Maybe his freedom of speech should be stripped and he should be removed from his position permanantly for requesting something so blatantly uncontitutional.

Steven……….Oh my God, if this is true……I mean, I’m speachless. is this true? Do you believe this? I hope it’s true but I don’t know why no one has ever talked about this. Maria; I sure as hell hope its true. Its the only good news I have heard of that gives rise for hope against these bastards. If there are good guys and Mr. Fulford is correct then at the very least, they will also die if they attempt to kill all of us. I hope it does not come 2 that however “their” mutually assured destruction along with ours may stop “them” from pulling the trigger. Good luck dear……..
