The San Jose Police Department will be the first law enforcement agency in the nation to use new ear-mounted video and audio recorders on the streets.
The goal of the new device is to provide more details into arrests and other situations.
The department has ordered 72 of the cameras, which are built by Taser International, and plans to deploy them later this month. They will be used as part of a one-year pilot program.
The cameras are designed to capture video from the point of view of the officer in the hope that they can assist in more accurate reports and provide a stronger defense if their actions are called in to question.
According to Taser, the products will operate in a buffer mode until activated by an officer. Once activated, they begin permanently recording footage including buffered shots taken 30 to 60 seconds before activation.
They can store up to 10 ½ hours before needing to be cleared. The video and audio can be played back in the field or downloaded to a computer for viewing and storage.

Oh, Joe- be VERY careful for what you wish for….
November 5th, 2009 at 10:26 am
WTF is this for??
We all know cops are never punished anyway for crimes they commit when arresting someone
Like the asian guy the San Jose cops beat and tasered in a private residence
Are the cops just gonna save the recordings to laugh at in the station house…..you whooped that chink pretty good Billy-Bob…you are getting promoted to SGT now….and I love the part when he begs for his life….pass the steriods!

Like I said, be very , very careful. Truth REALLY sucks, sometimes.
Yup, the cops are essentially immune from their actions. I mean, the guy that got Tared in the back of the neck. His lawyer sues for $75K????? I’d find a REAL attorney! Plus, afterwards, discreetly talk to some friends….
Sic Semper Tyrannis!!!!, baby!

yeah I know…and if you defend yourself from a physco cop its a federal felony
I can say in my 6 year army career we all followed the UCMJ…and atleast in the military they weed out the trash…who probley then go on to become cops
And the army never used tasers to detain POWS
Police are a fucking joke…they should atleast have drug and routine physical fitness and mental tests
once you graduate the academy your allowed to terrorize americans as long as you do not get caught…and if you do..your superiors will help you make up some bullshit story

These would be great – too bad they always seem to malfuntion during controvertial arrests…
Guess there’s still a few bugs to work out, eh?

Now that is so true. Digital video can be altered, sections deleted.

And if you and I ever “record” a police officer (especially the audio part) it’s considered illegal and you get the taser and the slammer and a fine.

Can you imagine Joe the Cop coming home from a hard days work, his hot wife is waiting for him. She’s wearing a black neglajay and lit candles on the coffee table. Joe cop goes into attack mode and bends her over the arm of the couch. He’s banging her so hard the nieghbors pictures fall off the wall. Only one problem, Joe the cop forgot to turn in is “ear cam”. Now jokingly called the butt cam by his fellow officers.

Luckily, cops are easy to entertain, like small children. Look in any donut shop….

hey pat in vegas they shot a women for holding a butterknife from 30yards away & called it justified. tazered shot, which ever the police have open season on the citizens. old people, children, folks in wheelchairs, it dont matter. ever situation has to be dealt with not just to open up on people.

So, the Pig can keep his dirty deeds from being recorded by simply letting the rolling buffer erase itself.
BUT, as soon as he wants the evidence he can hit the button.
Why not just save it all and download the data after each duty shift???
Oh yeah, cuz then Pigs would have to become the public servants they once were instead of the power-hungry goblins they’ve become today. Besides, they would say its too much data, even though the NSA will archive millions of times that much- that is of US not the government’s infallible Enforcers.
What else would we expect from Taser?

How long do you think it will be before an earcam vid of cops blowing each other hits youtube?

Wait a minute, I’m thinking this is leading to biometric I.D of citizens. One day the cops hope to I.D citizens just by walking by them. Think about it the camera is near their ear. Camera picks up a wanted mans biometric signature and then the cop gets a little whisper in his ear telling him to pick up the guy.
