An Iraqi journalist who was jailed after he threw his shoes at President Bush during a news conference is to be released early.
Muntadhar al Zeidi became a hero across much of the Arab world for his act of defiance last December.
But he was sentenced to three years in an Iraqi prison – reduced to one on appeal – for assaulting a foreign leader.
The 30-year-old will now be freed three months early on September 14 for good behaviour, his lawyer said.
“We have been informed officially about the court decision,” Karim al-Shujairi said. “His release will be a victory for the free and honourable Iraqi media.”
