Scientist fired by Al Gore was told, “science will not intrude on public policy”.
Noted energy expert and Princeton physicist Dr. Will Happer has sharply criticized global warming alarmism. Happer, author of over 200 scientific papers and a past director of energy research at the Department of Energy, called fears over global warming “mistaken”.
“I have spent a long research career studying physics that is closely related to the greenhouse effect”, said Happer. “Fears about man-made global warming are unwarranted and are not based on good science.”
Dr. Happer views climate change as a predominately natural process. “The earth’s climate is changing now, as it always has. There is no evidence that the changes differ in any qualitative way from those of the past.”
(ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW)
In 1991, Happer was appointed director of energy research for the US Department of Energy. In 1993, he testified before Congress that the scientific data didn’t support widespread fears about the dangers of the ozone hole and global warming, remarks that caused then-Vice President Al Gore to fire him. “I was told that science was not going to intrude on public policy”, he said. “I did not need the job that badly”.
Happer’s latest remarks were made yesterday, as he asked to be included in a Senate Environment and Public Works report of scientists disputing global warming alarmism. Happer joins 650 other scientists on the list, many of whom have been interviewed previously by DailyTech.
“Computer models used to generate frightening scenarios from increasing levels of carbon dioxide have scant credibility,” Happer concluded.
In response to Happer’s remarks, Senator James Inhofe, ranking minority member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, said, “The endless claims of a consensus on man-made global warming grow less and less credible every day”.

Dr. Happer is right. The Sun is a variable star. Climate changes are a natural consequence: “The earth’s climate is changing now, as it always has. There is no evidence that the changes differ in any qualitative way from those of the past.” With kind regards, Oliver K. Manuel,http://myprofile.cos.com/manuelo09

When ‘“science will not intrude on public policy”’ is when you KNOW it is a scam.
Anyway, Al Gore, why don’t you fix your house?

This makes you look like a hypocrite you know.

Gore may have complained to the president or the head of DOE but he could not fire a DOE employee since it is not in his chain of command. If anything government silencing of scientists has been worse in the Bush administration and worked against the hypothesis of anthropogenic global warming. There is a consensus that CO2 is a greenhouse gas, and that it’s concentration in the atmosphere is increasing. The question is to what degree is it forcing climate change.

What about the negative ramifications if someone told the (uneducated) public that global warming isn’t our fault and that it’s just a natural process that we have no control over? I believe that it is a natural thing but I also believe that the general public would take it as a free pass to continue to pollute and be wasteful of our ever depleting natural resources. Yes, the people of the world deserve to know the truth but how many people will actually understand it?
Think about it.

“What about the negative ramifications if someone told the (uneducated) public that global warming isn’t our fault and that it’s just a natural process that we have no control over?”
Negative ramifications? You mean the press being truthful, science agreeing on science,
nobody making billions of dollars from fake climate change? Our politicians not “selling us a scam”? Scary stuff.
“I believe that it is a natural thing but I also believe that the general public would take it as a free pass to continue to pollute and be wasteful of our ever depleting natural resources.”
A: The bulk of pollution is corporate.
B: Our natural resources have been stolen long ago by the same folks that that are going to make BILLIONS from climate change and trading carbon credits.
“Yes, the people of the world deserve to know the truth but how many people will actually understand it? ”
You demonstrate a complete lack of understanding regarding lying politicians, scientists, NGO’s , media, wars on.., pollution, global warming, and resource management.
You WANT to be lied to?
Well you HAVE been.
Think about it.

to me there’s no question this global warming bullshit is going to fall apart…just a matter of time
question is how angry will people be once they realize they’ve been tricked ???

A penny wise and a dollar short. If one could reconcile truth as a tool for behavior modification then perhaps, we could construct a conditional response to millions of people to behave in a desired way to promote an agenda that is morally ‘good’ for the earth.
If, by an ethical standard we could say that our present human behavior is not conducive to long term benefits based on consumption and waste I would heartily agree.
Idealized ratios of : Energy in and Crap out, are always in need of optimized systems. Some companies , people and groups in general are always seeking this as a goal, either as a quotient of energy, product, yields, money or happiness.
Human behavior unfortunately is a poor scale for balanced objectivity and metrics, and the larger the population, the larger the span for diametric opposition to logic andthe shorter the fuse to become satisfied with anything.
Hence, the resolve to want the truth becomes a need for an answer, which is not the same.
I will firmly agree to argue in defense of many of the environmentalists and ecological conservationists, as they are willing to be ‘conservative’ in usage and application of our
non-renewable resources. This makes great sense in all manner of behavior.
My issues and of distain are those which apply ‘scientific’ facades to promote a concept so that governments or ‘groups’ of persons with ideological goals may manipulate another group. This is of course, the same as any religious group applying an ideological pressure on another group as to motivate their behavior in a certain moral direction.
I am disheartened by the many professional scientists who are willing to submit to such social and government pressures ….. very sad.
The scientific method cannot be implemented while biases of expected results are issued first. I hope Dr. Will Happer will find more respect in the years ahead.

Al Gore is certainly passionate about what he believes and he has a right to his opinion, however I disagree with his trying to force his opinions on the entire world. Mr. Gore’s modus operendi is suspect because he intends to profit handsomely if his agenda is implimented. Mr. Gore has a company/companies ready to take our money and somehow trade carbon credits. How does this work? Picture a small poor village of say 100, they need money to live and not starve to death, so they sell there carbon footprint to Al Gore so that he and his family can justify there mansion with 12 bedrooms in Carthage Tennessee, and so Al can fly around the world in his private jet. The small poor village now has some cash, but they have a dictator who runs there country so he steals there cash and then they have no money. This same small village now can’t grow crops, have chickens or live stock because they’ve already sold there carbon credits and are not allowed to. Small village dies! Al Gore lives even better that before because his company gets a percentage of the deal. The dictator loves all this because he also becomes richer! This is called redistrution of wealth and genocide! Whose agenda would this be? Hmmm?

Hell Yea, Let’s all get on the band wagon and Sue Al Gore, Yes; Let us, strain out the gnat and Swallow the proverbial Camel……..WMDs ,Science and big money and the media, Are Weapons of mass Distractions
How ever……..the Question still remains; Are we ruining the earth? Do I hear a YES?
What Is Man Doing to the Earth, if he is not Warming it up then ,is it time to Party on Dudes?
Can you answer yes to these Observations?
But man is ruining his forest heritage. North American and European forests are dying from pollution. And the demands of industrial nations are decimating tropical forests.nearly half the world’s forests have vanished.
“70 percent of the oxygen added to the atmosphere each year comes from plankton in the sea.” Yet, some scientists warn that phytoplankton could be seriously depleted because of ozone reduction in the atmosphere, which is believed to be caused by man.
Also, man dumps garbage, oil, and even toxic wastes into the ocean. While some countries agree to limit the wastes they allow to be dumped at sea, others refuse. One Western nation even reserves the right to dump nuclear wastes at sea. Famed ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau warns: “We must save the oceans if we want to save mankind.”
Man is ruining even his drinking water! It is estimated that 20 million Europeans drink water from the Rhine, yet this river is so polluted that sludge dredged from its bed is too dangerous to use for landfill!
Alarmingly, man is even ruining his farmland. In the United States alone, 20 percent of the land set aside for irrigation has been damaged, according to Scientific American. Why? Because overirrigation adds too much salt to the soil. Many countries have ruined much valuable land in this way. “As much land is now being taken out of production due to salinization as is being brought into production through new irrigation projects,” states The Earth Report. Another widespread problem is overgrazing, which may be contributing to the spread of deserts.
“Motor vehicles generate more air pollution than any other single human activity.” (New Scientist) “There are currently 500 million registered automobiles on the planet . . . Filling their tanks consumes about one third of the world’s production of oil. . . . The number of automobiles is increasing more quickly than the population.” (Scientific American) “Petrol [gasoline] in all phases of production, use and disposal is a major source of environmental degradation and disease.”—The Ecologist.
Yes, our planet is being abused, ruined. Its seas, drinking water, farmlands, and even its atmosphere are being polluted to an enormous extent. Surely, this alone would suggest that the time is near for God to intervene and “bring to ruin those ruining the earth.” (Revelation 11:18) However, there are other, even worse, ways in which the earth is being ruined. Let us see just what they are.

hey #15, most of what you say is true. our social and economic systems have contributed to (and benefited from) our peculiar and irrespònsible greed, most of us identifying with the smallest selfish unit called ¨me¨ and whomever ¨me¨identifies with. all true. true with regard to the environment; true with regard to our orientation toward humanity. a great many people are adjusting their consciousness to addressing this disconnect. most of these people look upon this global warming argument as yet one more example of the type of human behavior I outlined above. it seems quite natural, doesn´t it?
but wait.
what is the argument again connecting climate change with human behavior? because what we´re really dealing with here is not the philosophical disposition of mankind but an actual planetary phenomena. we need real science here, in this argument…right?
for most people Global Warming is purely an emotional issue…is that not true? and should we be resolving intellectual controversies from our emotions? whether you think Global Warming is a ¨real issue¨or not; and if so, whether you think climate change is caused by human behavior…these are issues that deserve real intellectual consideration–real science–not gut reactions from armchair ecologists (tying themselves and their brains to the trees) or pro-capitalist Constitutionalists (thinking, somehow, that climate changes are tied to man´s natural rights and private property). Bullshit ideology has absolutely no place here, understand?
Start doing your homework. And if you´re curious what I believe, ask yourself whether it really matters.

“ozone reduction in the atmosphere, which is believed to be caused by man.” Glen my friend, the ozone layer is just fine. Seriously it is neigh impossible for human beings to do more in 100 years to the ozone layer than a single volcano does in one eruption. Ozone or O3 is an unstable molecule constantly breaking apart and reforming. It is natural for the ozone layer to have a hole only to have it reformed in good fashion. The whole ozone hole scare lasted far less than the media would like to admit. It’s doing just fine right now.
Secondly yes human beings are polluting the oceans in horrible quantities, but the fossil record has shown mass extinction of marine species. Does the great pacific trash isle exist? Yes. Is it any worse than sea floor vents pumping out genocidal chemicals? We don’t have enough scientific evidence to show one way or the other yet. The greatest tragedy of man kind is our unwillingness to take account fully for our actions both to one another and the environment. You want to attack one of our bad progresses? Try genetically modified plants and animals. Now those figures are scary as to replacing entire species without knowing what greater effects it will have down the road.
December 25th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
In response to Glenn,
That Voltaire quote would then be more applicable to hippocrates like Al Gore.
Yes we need pollution standards, but not in a Hegelian response to perceived “global warming” or climate change propaganda.

Al Gore should understand that we all sure can’t be taken for fools in there political gains. They should understand history has a tendency to repeat itself, and The Revolutionary war had a purpose too! We all may not have the college education as Gore believes he had than alot of us, But common sense works far better than being educated to understand what most people can tell because they had a different education process called being told the stories from there ancestors. those are the real true story’s anyways! This story that Gore is Backing is a far fetched political means to add another TAX on all of us. Well when they push to hard, I believe people are going to push Back. Keep working at it Gore, and you’ll start something you won’t want to finish. When we all can see for ourselves how bad things are when we see our friends and other family members loosing jobs, and Gore would want to start another unfair tax, People won’t stand for it. Besides how are we going to pay taxes if we all are not working? Better think about that Gore.

Abraham Lincoln said it best.
“You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all the people, all of the time.”
Time for a Taco, a beer, and maybe if there is time, a REVOLUTION!!!!!
December 26th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
#16 Maybe it dosen’t matter what we think, Bullshit Ideolgy Maybe…#17 You are right to fear GM Plants and Animals, # 18..You well know that it is probably way to late for any civilized Measures to be implemented..Revolution is in the air……for we perceive everything as Greedy propaganda.
So who is right? It seems that every claim or argument can be proved or disproved by scientific experts. “Scientific truth is determined at least as much by the social climate of the times as by the dictates of reason and logic alone,” states the book Paradigms Lost. Michael Fumento sums up the matter of dioxin by saying: “We are all, depending on whom you listen to, either potential victims of poisoning or potential victims of gross disinformation.”
Yet, some well-known scientific disasters cannot be explained away. Science must account for these.
“A Tragedy of Overwhelming Poignancy”
In “A Message to Intellectuals,” released on August 29, 1948, Albert Einstein reflected on the less glamorous moments of science when he stated: “By painful experience we have learnt that rational thinking does not suffice to solve the problems of our social life. Penetrating research and keen scientific work have often had tragic implications for mankind, . . . creating the means for his own mass destruction. This, indeed, is a tragedy of overwhelming poignancy!”
(Jeremiah 10:23) 23 I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.
