A friend said something to the tune of " Damn real estate bubble burst! ", and then something about hedge funds. I just gave her an incredulous stare and said " You don't honestly believe that, do you? " and then I told her about the current war costs ( this was in mid October ) and she about shrieked. Yes no doubt someone's crystal ball in D.C. is smokin' hot now. Such prescience carries the unmistakable brand of the evolved Stargate program. Kinda like how Obama got a full secret service detail about a week before the actual election! Not that that was any surprise. The credict crunch was the result of the US government taking huge loans from its banks to finance two worthless wars The US government had bankrupted the banks because they could not force the government to pay up. Eventually when George Bush finished his tenure as president he suggestested what he termed a 'bailout' it was not a bailout it was the US government paying back the banks what it owed to them. No one really knows how much was given back. The US government had borrowed so much that the banks ran out money for all kinds of businesses, because all the money the banks had was taken away by the US government. It became an international crisis because the banks borrowed from foreign banks. Eventually when every US bank came to the brink of bankruptcy the US government returned the money, the banks had to return the money from foreign banks with interest, which meant that US companies could not get any loans till the banks became solvent again. Now car companies cannot sell cars, because there is no money in the banks - so no one can use their credit cards to purchase a car. Car companies are unable to make new cars because the cars they already have in the showrooms have not sold besides they do not have the money to make them. As for as attacking Pakistan. The US always had this contempt for Pakistan. If the US is planning an attack on Pakistan - the danger the US faces is a grand military alliance of China, Russia, Iran and Afghanistan - perhaps the whole of Central Asia. Is willing to fight such a war? The US bothers Russia over Georgia. China over Taiwan. It will face a military of several million soldiers and all kinds of heavy equipment. It will not be one sided war in which Iraq could not reataliate and had no friends supporting it. Perhaps the US is trying to find a way to self-destruct - what better way to do it than by going into a suicidal war. Eventually the USA would be a land of the desperately poor.
