@George Hayduke

"This piece is an astute assessment by the underground’s foremost and most important guerilla thinker Mike Whitney."

Actually, this is yet another pro-American piece of crap. America tricked Putin into a trap? BULLSHIT!

Have a look at a map. See how far away Russia is from Iran? See what hostile country they would have to go through to get there?

Now, ask yourself why the US and ISRAEL (of all places) would be interested in arming Georgia? Look when they started: 2002. What was going on then that might make having a strong Georgian military desirable... Why yes, Iran was being named as part of the "Axis of Evil"!

This war was a DISASTER for the US and Israel. It is approximately 400km from South Ossetia to Iran, and most of that passes through Armenia, an ally of both Iran and Russia. Russian tanks can make that journey on a single tank of gas. Do you REALLY think they would want thousands of Russian Army tanks, IFV's and other weapons, plus tens of thousands of troops, to be THAT CLOSE to Iran and not have ANY blocking force to stop them?

That is what Georgia was meant to be, and that is what they just CEASED to be! Russia now has a clear path to Iran, and a very good reason to build up their forces there.

That is the LAST thing the US and Israel ever wanted. By the way, did you notice that the Israelis suddenly announced that they weren't going to be given permission to attack Iran... I wonder why??? :)

This piece is an astute assessment by the underground's foremost and most important guerilla thinker Mike Whitney. I encourage prisonplanet to continue to run his columns. I wish Whitney would go back to penning a fairly regular, perhaps weekly, economic assessment.

Two things worth mentioning I'll list here.

It is impossible that Putin did not foresee this development, though the timing of it may have caught him off guard. The underground here in these United States has been alive with chatter on various predictions of some sort of false flag events coinciding and perhaps even targeting the Olympics. For the intelligencia community to be blindsided by the Georgian invasion would require one to believe that that community believes its own propaganda. China is to be commended for keeping Western-backed terror cells under wraps and Russia is to be commended for stomping dead the Georgian aggression almost as soon as it commenced. Clearly it would seem that the world simply has to run out the clock on the Britton Woods-Anglo American/PNAC empire plan, as it has been defeated by a peasant rebellion in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as popular support in Pakistan, India, South Amerika in general, Japan, Turkey and now parts of the EU (Italy for example) for a return to regionalism and a multi-polar world. We in the states are careening towards the close of the fiscal year, which will bring the final death blow to the empire with the reports losses in the financial and corporate world, now rife with corruption and totally bankrupt. The empire may attempt to go out with a bang before then and so everyone is encouraged to prepare for this possibility, including honorable men and women in uniform.

The second point I'd like to make is to stay tuned. Putin is a relatively young man who Kissinger says seeks to be a Peter the Great, who was in no way an authoritarian autocrat.

Indeed, Amerika is caught in the dubious locale of having to watch other countries take the moral high road and say "no" to the PNAC-Anglo American empire agenda, which is falsely being construed as the being in the best interests of the Amerikan public at large. The mythos that Amerika's only chance at survival is through military aggression in the name of imperialism and resource theft is a dangerous illusion matrix indeed. Numerous things can be done to restore Amerikan vitality and economic autonomy, first and foremost of which is bringing the troops home and stationing them on the US/Mexican border. The sooner we do this, the greater our chances of meliorating the impending unavoidable consequences of the fall of empire, now underway and gaining momentum.
