Urges Americans to “rise up” against “tyranny”

In a recent interview with Newsmax, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul hit out at the President saying that his policies are stifling freedom in America and creating a “socialist nightmare” state.

“It’s hard to imagine exactly what his goal is because when you talk to him one on one, he sounds reasonable and like he’s not trying to transform America into some socialist nightmare,” Paul stated.

The Senator described Obama’s policies as “transformative” adding that he is “changing us from a country that has a marketplace and freedom of choice to a country that is stifled by coercion and mandates.”

Paul has a huge issue with the way that Obama seems determined to continually bypass Congress and take executive action to do “blithely whatever he thinks he can get away with.”

Pointing specifically to Obama changing aspects of the Affordable Care Act without Congressional approval, Paul said “Basically he pushes the limit to whatever he thinks he can get and won’t be rebuked.”

“There doesn’t seem to be any acknowledgement of restraint that the Constitution and the rule of law restrains him in any way,” the Senator added.

Paul warned that in “acting as if he’s both the executive and the legislator,” the president is putting together “a recipe for tyranny.”

“It is my fear that we’re allowing the president to have so much power gravitate to him that we’re getting rid of the checks and balances that really held government and limited government’s power.” Paul added.

“It’s that arrogance from Washington that, really, the whole country ought to rise up — Republican, Democrat, independent — and say, look, this is a free country and we want our freedom back, basically.” the Senator urged.

In a separate appearance yesterday, Paul outlined his own Libertarian vision for the future of governance in America.

“‘Libertarian’ …doesn’t mean ‘libertine,’” he told the audience gathered at the American Principles Project gala in Washington . “To many of us libertarian means freedom and liberty. But we also see that freedom needs tradition.”

“I don’t see libertarianism as, you can do whatever you want. There is a role for government, there’s a role for family, there’s a role for marriage, there’s a role for the protection of life.”

In an effort to reach out to more Conservative elements of the Republican party, and voters alike, Paul advocated more tax cuts, as well as drastic reductions in government spending, saying that existing Republican policies do not go far enough.

“Fighting doesn’t have to be impolite. It doesn’t have to be rude, but there needs to be a struggle over the direction of the party. We have to decide: Are we gonna go bold, are we gonna go big, or are we gonna go Democrat-lite?” Paul stated.
